Wednesday 2 December 2009:
The day after tomorrow Friday the 4th of December 2009 Gino Vannelli's last duo-concert with Bert van den Brink & Strings in Venlo, Holland. The end of a very special Gino Vannelli tour! Many new fans and audiences left the theaters with this WELL KNOWN big smile after a GINO VANNELLI concert and people were so surprised about what they heard and listened to... Especially Gino Vannelli's voice made a huge impression and the musical electricity between Bert & the Strings and Gino Vannelli was fantastic! Holland will miss these great Musicians! The editors honest opinion: Meppel was the very BEST!!!
Plans for the further away future are: Gino Vannelli concerts in Italy, Probably in the Bleu Note Jazz Club in Milano in February/March 2010.
Gino Vannelli is writing new songs at the moment in between all the busy things that are happening right now... A very famous Dutch artist called Alan Clark is interested in working together with Gino! They want to write new songs together for Alan's new album.... We have to see and wait how this project will go and what the musical results will be.
The editors walked with Gino along a beautiful river in Holland, a road bordered by trees (NOT me but real trees) and we asked and asked like in an interview and Gino was very open minded and talked about a lot of subjects one of them was "Dea Speranza" and the videoclip on YouTube. Gino gave big compliments to the person who made this video and He liked the sound of His song... Gino struggled with His thoughts the day after 9/11 and "Dea Speranza" came out straight from His heart! This song says it all...
Monday 23 November 2009:
The most crazy and weirdest interview ever. Gino did very well and his smile & laughter got slowly louder and more... Gino's eyes looked sometimes surprised and like huh? what's happening? but in general the interview was so funny! The editors dropped down from the couch on the floor laughing!
Nice how they introduced Gino with short parts of the Brother to Brother movie and clips from Wild Horses & Hurts To Be In Love & The Measure of a Man.

Monday 16 November 2009:
For the fans this book will be the ultimate MUST HAVE item of the this year and a great Christmas gift.
After all the special live concerts, the new CD "A GOOD THING" and the new CD "the best and beyond" we get a new treasure of GINO VANNELLI: A BOOK!!! If the editors understood everything well the cd "the best and beyond is inside the book".
When you were at one of the theater concerts last week in the Netherlands, Gino Vannelli read some of His stories to the audiences... A story how He met His wife, a story about Brian Adams, a story about Andrea Bocelli and more...
This week Gino Vannelli performs in Enschede and Haarlem a very special concert with strings. A kind of acoustic concert with the pureness of Gino's voice which will amaze you completely especially in those beautiful small theaters with an intimacy of a living-room, you will hear Jazzy songs, beautiful songs like "PUT THE WEIGHT ON MY SHOULDERS..." but also classical songs and a very special "PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE..." Grab your chance and go there, still 5 concerts to go! Have a peek at our GINO VANNELLI tour data and information web page.

I also put this in the guest book, but didn't know if you preferred it via email.
10 days til Gino!!! Can't wait.

Saterday 3 October 2009:
Hi B+T!
This website announces that A Good Thing will be officially released in France next Feb. 15th. Gino will give a concert at La Cigale in Paris on March 20th and tour France to promote the album.
We heard at first that Gino would be in Paris next month for a concert, but haven't found anything on this. Concerning this last point, have you heard anything?
The latest rumours are that Gino Vannelli will make an appearance in different tv shows in different countries... like Holland, Sweden and Italy in the last 3 months of this year. When we hear the official news we will write it down on our GINO VANNELLI tour data and information web pages.
Hello Barend & Trees,
How are you?
I write you because I found this interesting article in home page (Attached) of the Italian label Azzurra music. The text says "Little weeks lack to publication of new, most waited for Gino Vannelli Cd, produced in USA by Azzurra music. It's the first greatest hits studio recordings from the Canadian Artist. The exact date of publication will be defined in the next days with the definition about Gino in Italy for promotion.
The track list is:
I just wanna stop

(2): Another e-mail dated Tuesday 22 September 2009 from Fabio from S.M.C.V. Italy
with the subject: new cd 2
Hello,
The site is Azzura Music in Italy.
All the best
The editors B&T: Thanks Fabio, your news is very much appreciated! GRAZIE! We cannot wait to buy this new GINO VANNELLI Best of cd in Italy. Gino himself said that it probably will become a Christmas gift. We heard about more songs but that's not official but rumours in the grapevine circuit. We heard 13 songs will be on this new cd including a very special PUT THE WEIGHT ON MY SHOULDERS and THE SUREST THINGS CAN CHANGE... There are 12 GINO VANNELLI songs on the Azzura track list so we have to wait and see what will happen and we can only know for sure when we buy the cd and have a new GINO VANNELLI masterpiece in our hands and read the track list... AGAIN MORE BEAUTY IN MUSIC TO LOOK FORWARD TO!
Jane's e-mail dated 12 September 2009 with the subject: Portland Show:
Greetings Barend & Trees, Everyone seemed laid back and relaxed…except me..(I think I suffered from jet lag, lack of sleep, stress or a combination from flying out of Providence RI the day before.) Gino’s voice was strong, clear and beautiful (as usual), the band was great (as usual) and the new keyboard player did quite well. Gino’s musical talent in my mind is so far above ANYONE else and the show confirmed this again. He did some of his older hits like Venus Envy, Wild Horses, Hurts to be in Love, and his new A Good Thing and This Day On, told some of his funny stories…. all beautifully done. Everyone was so nice and friendly…this was truly a pleasure. It would be great if he could do more of these smaller shows around the country, that way more of his faithful fans would be able to see him. Portland is a beautiful progressive city with loads of interesting things to see and do (with a very comfortable climate!) Wish you could have been there, you would have been in heaven….with the rest of us! Enjoy the pictures.
Tuesday 15 September 2009:
I was hoping to hear more songs off the new cd, maybe in Vegas! I loved every song , though, it was over so soon. I really have to say my favorite concert up to now was Chic Corea Electric band and now Gino and his band are my #1 favorite concert of all time. The players in the band were wonderful too. As I had mentioned my husband couldn't join us because of the recent chemo and radiation, but he was happy that I had a great time. He wanted a blow by blow of each player, and we brought him back a Gino t shirt. We couldn't stay & meet Gino because of our long drive and it was so crowded, so we hope to meet him in Las Vegas. Maybe he will be kind enough to write my husband a get well message on my cd. If you are attending, there is a band in Las Vegas by the name of Santa Fe and the fat city horns, they have done some fundraising for my husband and they are very nice people and very talented, I hope you get to an opportunity to hear them. We music lovers and Gino fans have to stick together! My thanks to Gino for a wonderful evening with my best friends (they are now huge fans) if only I could get my teenager to listen to good music! Signing off. Have a lovely weekend and again thanks for providing the concert info. You two are amazing!
Sincerely,
Cyndy S.K.

B & T,
Editors: See the Gino Vannelli guestbook dated Friday 9/11/2009 (11 September)
Barend and Trees,
The show was intimate but powerful! He opened with a lot of his hits.
A great night and I think Gino was very pleased. Wish you could have been there but I guarantee you the band and Gino knew you were thinking of them.
A few words from the Editors (B&T): With blushing, red faces and very happy that the Portland try-out concert was so good and that the atmosphere was so relaxed. And the most important thing: THAT THE MUSIC WAS GREAT!!! GINO VANNELLI'S MUSIC!!! THANKS for your report Mert!!!

Monday the 17th of August 2009:
(1):An e-mail from Claude in France dated Monday 17 August 2009 with the subject: Strange info on amazon.com Hello B+T!
I've been told that amazon.com lists A Good Thing as being "discontinued by the manufacturer". What's happening??? Have you heard anything from the Man on this?
Take care!
Claude
REPLY FROM THE EDITORS: NOT True!!! CMM and the manufacturer still print GINO VANNELLI's A GOOD THING. And they still export to foreign countries everywhere on this planet. So for a few $$$$ more you can buy the original cd-book A GOOD THING by GINO VANNELLI as an import, also in the USA. This is the answer of the GINO VANNELLI project manager at CMM on this Monday of the 17th of August 2009.
A true GINO VANNELLI fan wants the original, we know exactly how that feels and this cd-book A GOOD THING is very special to own because of the 23 poems which are included in this lovely booklet.
The A GOOD THING page 7 with links to order Gino Vannelli's new cd-book and A GOOD THING page 1 with all the information about the new cd-book so you can see it's very worth while to order this special masterpiece... GINO VANNELLI'S MASTERPIECE!!!
(2):An e-mail from E.P. in France dated 10 August 2009 with the subject: Gino contact for Booking
Hi !
I´m working for a french booker, J.P. We try to find Gino´s Contact for booking im in a french festival in 2010. Can you help please?
We are french production and we need the Gino Vannelli contact for touring-shows. Can you help qnd give us any email or contact?
Cheers!
Best resgards, EP
REPLY FROM THE EDITORS: Yes of course we help to bring you to the right person(s) and we cannot wait to go to a Music Festival in France! The editors get many of these kind of e-mails and we give them to the right people (We think!) And at the same time we get mad because who are we? just simple GINO VANNELLI fans and these people have not even the original A GOOD THING or THESE ARE THE DAYS cd's with all the management info printed inside the cd-booklets. This thought drives us crazy... You like or love Gino Vannelli's music and you do not have the original cd's??? This does not work in our brains!
THE REMARKS WE GET ON GINO VANNELLI: (3):
An e-mail without a name and only 1 line and we can see by the e-mailaddress it's from the United States of America (bellsouth.net) Date Sunday 16 August 2009 with the subject: Homepage 1 GINO VANNELLI... He's handsome as ever but needs to cut his hair!
REPLY FROM THE EDITORS: Huh??? And a few laughs... So funny...
HOLLAND: July 2009: Radio Tour de France played Gino Vannelli songs like PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE and WILD HORSES and HURTS TO BE IN LOVE... GREAT to hear in the editors most favourite radioshow...
USA: July 2009: SOUL TRAIN: Gino Vannelli was the very first white person to perform life in the Soul Train tv show back in the 70’s. GINO VANNELLI is interviewed in Los Angeles for a
retrospective. Let you know when it will be in the USA air!
After an investigation by the editors of this GINO VANNELLI newspaper, this is the news we know and found on the world wide web:
Gino Vannelli sang "I JUST WANNA STOP" as a guest in the Allen Hinds band, a very big surprise for the audience who did not know GINO VANNELLI would perform. This was an unannounced performance. When you see the jazz festival's web site you will find Sunday the 19th of July 2009: Allen Hinds 6pm and also on Allen Hinds web site you will find an announcement for this Jazz Festival in Portland.
Allen Hinds is Gino Vannelli's guitar player in Gino's WestCoast band so 1+1 is GINO VANNELLI as a guest Singer in Allen Hinds Band!
Must have been a dream performance for a fan in the audience so very unexpected on this beautiful spot in this wonderful town on a sunny Sunday! We bet many new people saw and heard GINO VANNELLI's extraordinary voice and music!
"Kitten grilled 'just for the fun of it'
NEW YORK - A teenager from the Bronx grilled a kitten from an old friend and roommate in the oven. ,,I hate cats," was the reaction of Cheyenne Cherry (17) when she was arrested.
The Daily News informs: She finished this act of horror like it's over and done with 'and it was just a joke'.
Cherry and a friend break into the house of Valerie Hernandez. They turned the house inside out and upside down. Till the kitten of the house walked in the way and under their feet. The name of the Kitten was Tiger Lily.
Cherry put the Kitten in the oven and pushed the on button. During her arrest the teenager said that she wanted to play a BIG practical joke on Valerie. We did not get any answers about the WHY??? of the act of horror or better said evil... Immediately I had to think of
a line from the lyrics 'Summer's of my Life' (a prayer) of Gino Vannelli:
"take back the world, you've granted the fools".
The editors noticed that in the last months Gino Vannelli Himself says: The West Coast Band in stead of Portland Band so we change the name of the band too... There is a new musician from Oregon on the piano, his name is Greg Goebel. He is rehearsing with Gino in the evenings to get ready for the Summer tour! Life is hard for a musician, struggling with music and tunes and notes and sound, the latest technology, touring, musical instruments, musicians and artistic freedom, record companies, fans and managers... And than there is "normal life"
The tour list is a little uncertain Memphis, Tennessee changed into Birmingham, Alabama and the final list will be there next two weeks... So investigate yourself before you buy or book anything.
Gino is invited to sing as a guest on the new CD of Billy Cobham, a drummer and musical leader born in Panama, who lives in Switzerland... Gino writes new music and new lyrics for this project. So a new Billy Cobham cd with Gino Vannelli music and let's not forget Gino Vannelli's voice! comes out one day in the musical future.
We see a familiar face in the Billy Cobham band, Jean-Marie Ecay - guitar player, who also played in Gino Vannelli's French band in Ville-la-Grand, France last 13 September 2008.
This Billy Cobham cd is one of Gino Vannelli's new projects and He is also working on this very big project of the new cd the one with the older songs and new arrangements...
Also a tv show is coming up in September 2009 with the most craziest, funniest and comical images and scenes WITH GINO VANNELLI!!!
More news will follow... Stay tuned!
Pop, rock, jazz, Gino Vannelli knows how to mix all these styles in His repertoire. Last 5 february 2009 Gino Vannelli performed in Tivoli in Utrecht. The man, is busy with a tour in Holland and most people know Him from the hit songs “Wild Horses’, “Hurts To Be In Love” and from the ANWB commercial tune “People Gotta Move”. To do honour to His fans but also to promote His new album with 23 of His poems attached.
Tivoli was loaded with fans. The Netherlands is very well represented in this concert-hall. Around me I hear people from different provinces in the Netherlands like Noord-Brabant and Limburg and different dialects like from Amsterdam and Rotterdam. His audience takes the trouble to travel to see His glorious and magical performance. When He entered the stage and walked towards the people of the audience we already could see that Vannelli still has this incredible sexy look which made many women heads crazy and run wild.
Vannelli looked young and full of energy for His age. Also His voice was superb and the audience had nothing to complain about. He sang the Italian song “Canto” in such penetratin way so it gave goose-bumps to many of the listeners in the audience.
Vannelli is an entertainer who knows how to attract the audience's attention and how to keep them attracted by His personal jokes and comical stories.
These days He bends His mind more to Jazz, but His works reach a big and wide audience and is meant for young and old. Also the songs from His new cd are musically and lyrically delicious. It was a wonderful night but way too short. Ver short show! An artist of His style belongs at least in a theater or concert-hall and not on a pop-stage.
During His performance Gino Vannelli was accompanied by the Dutchbeat Quartet who were completed with the brass and a percussionist.
Hello!
Tonight, I will add a link to your site as well. I'm sorry I haven't done that sooner, as I've visited your site many times, and think it's a great tribute. Take care, and best wishes for your continued success.
You may be one of the rare individuals who can hear a tune once or twice, and instantly recognize everything that's going on. For the rest of us, transcribing (copying) someone else's work is a great way to learn what your favorite writers and players have done. Most writers have done a lot of that, along with an after-the-fact analysis of the music. Be cautious though, if you're studying someone else's transcription. Sometimes listeners misunderstand a part, or don't know how many people were in the band, or intentionally alter the music to fit their needs. As with most things in life, the only way to be really sure is to do it yourself.
Not all of the work you'll like is published, so transcribing it is the only way to see the parts. Look around, though, via Google, etc.. Many arrangements (especially orchestral works) are published accurately, and you can learn a tremendous amount from studying scores, while listening to the music. When I was a kid, the local symphony conductor used to loan me scores, which was great.
Another accurate way to obtain a transcription is to obtain the individual parts, (say, for a big band) and reverse engineer them to create a score. Tedious, but it works.
A moment of enlightenment:
I auditioned (as a civilian) for the job of musical arranger for the Air Force Band, when I was 19. At that time, I had a good, but incomplete musical education. I passed the audition because I was able to complete the assignments given to me on time, and because I had a "book" of over 130 big band charts already under my belt. But, as soon as I got to Wright-Patterson (Dayton, Ohio) I began receiving some assignments that had tight deadlines, and there was a particular thing that would sometimes hold me up. In the process of transcribing, I would sometimes get "stuck", unable to figure out what a certain chord was. Well, one of the study materials I had was Mahegan's 4-volume set, "Piano Improvisations", which focused on thinking of music in terms of the number system, rather than in specific keys. I recommend these books to any aspiring writer, as they provide a great set of tools.
Boiling music down...
If you disregard key signatures in your thinking, and start to think more of the root progression, you'll realize something rather shockingly-simple. Look at a typical 2-5 progression. (Say, Dm7 to G) We only call it a "2-5" because of the key signature. Without a key, it's simply a "5-1" progression. Most good-sounding chord progressions are really 5-1 sequences, and it's certainly the most easily-recognizeable progression. Think about the very common 1-6-2-5 progression as another example. The "6-2-5-1" portion of that is really three 5-1 progressions, if you disregard the key.
The concept we're headed toward is called "Tonicization", and works like this:
Of course, this technique has other uses...
You can use it to "fix" progressions, by inserting more "2-5" or "5-1" progressions between the odd chords, to make them resolve. (below) It will also help you solve problems and create more musical transitions in any musical work you do. Songs with good-sounding root progressions are the ones that stand up over time.
An example by Gino Vannelli
Gino Vannelli's work is fascinating to analyze, because it's quite elaborate and well-planned... somewhat like a big band or orchestra arranging style, and very intelligent.
The analyzed section below is the "turnaround" from the end of the chorus on Gino's tune, "Appaloosa".
A few things are for sure but we all know the surest things can change... Next week GINO VANNELLI in Middelburg, Holland and after that Mexico, no worries Mexico, Gino is coming to your Country and give a major fantastic concert! And there are even chances Gino Vannelli will be back in Mexico in October 2009 so let's hope the promotors do their job well for Gino Vannelli and that He can perform everywhere on this globe in good and healthy conditions... In August and September an USA tour, a few concerts came out already but not everything is confirmed yet so be careful with the bookings of planes and hotels and check out the venues too!
September is Holland again on the tour list and a maybe Italy! October is maybe Mexico and November / December 2009 is HOLLAND time again... And than we almost reach Christmas time,
GINO VANNELLI as always dedicated to His music and communicating to the people who wanna hear it through His music!!! And many people will have a chance to feel the magic of a GINO VANNELLI live concert this year. Check out the GINO VANNELLI concerts...
The editors found this TMF Gino Vannelli videoclip by accident because we were busy with vannelli with 1 "N" and showed somebody the difference when you google vannelli with 1 "N" or with 2 "NN" that there really is a difference and that's when we saw the TMF link with of course Vannelli with 1 "N" and you can try the TMF search box and type 2 "NN" you will get NOTHING! And when you type 1 "N" you will get THE MEASURE OF A MAN and a wrong last name! The editors e-mailed with TMF and we are curious if they will correct it or maybe they do not care??? Anyways, you all know now it's on TMF so you have to give Gino a hit and also the green rate thumb logo... Today it's 333 hits.
The magazine is called
Instrumental and is a catalogue of musical instruments with a few interviews as well. It is the biggest of it's kind in Denmark with a circulation of more than 100.000 copies. I am, myself, a journalist and life-long Gino Vannelli-fan and wish to use "my" outlet to fly the flag for Gino and the new album.
