GINO VANNELLI IN THE CASINO REGINA SHOW LOUNGE...

GINO HAS AGED WELL...

OK, so it wasn't like sitting in your living room, with your lovely lady, a glass of wine in hand, lava light illuminating the walls, all brought together by the soothing sounds of Gino Vannelli oozing forth from the needle of your 1970s turntable.

But lava lights long ago went dark, turntables are for retro audiophiles or hip hop scratchy scratchers (DJs), and women, well for many unlucky men, they simply come and go.

Fine wine ages well -- and so has Vannelli.

Dressed in stylish designer jeans, loose fitting black dress shirt and black leather jacket, and sporting a full afro of black hair, the 56-year-old singer/songwriter hit the stage for an electric -- and eclectic -- 90-minute set of adult pop/jazz at the Casino Regina Show lounge Friday night.

He looked great -- just ask any female patron who was at the nearly soldout show -- and he sounded even better. His voice is in amazing shape. For some, however, the self-confident but soft-spoken Vannelli was also disappointing, for this was not a trip down memory lane.

He played some new songs from his just released CD, A Good Thing, although he didn't play arguably the best song from the new release, "The Measure of the Man." He did play some of the "hits," although several were rearranged.

"Wild Horses" was treated to a more up-tempo pace, highlighting the tremendous talents of bassist Sandin Wilson and drummer Reinhardt Melz. "Black Cars," Vannelli's monster hit from the 1980s, was most transformed. Recognizable by its chorus and not much else, the song went from synthesizer, happy pop to joyful jazz, with a tinge of salsa. Yes, it has changed that much.

Time has a way of doing that, and if you have been paying attention to Vannelli's career of late, you know the Montreal-born singer, who now splits time between homes in Portland, Ore., and the Netherlands, is not one to live in the past. "There's no time like the present. Once in a while, it can be interesting to take a short visit to the past, but it's very disconcerting to dwell on it," Vannelli told Leader-Post freelance writer Erin Harde in an article published last week.

Nonetheless, those looking to hear a familiar hit were treated to three stellar numbers. "Hurts To Be In Love" was tremendous, carried to new heights in a live setting by Vannelli's amazing voice. "Living Inside Myself" was soothing and sweet, a gentle love song left to its original arrangement: "I wrote this song 25 or 27 years ago and I still like to sing it today," Vannelli told the audience.

Vannelli, who last played Regina in 1992, saved the best for last, trotting out "People Gotta Move," a great dance number from his 1975 Powerful People, a jazzy disco number that, like the singer, has aged very well. Throw in some excellent work from the horn section and for five minutes, the Show Lounge looked like a 1970s disco, with fans, including Regina Mayor Pat Fiacco, dancing anywhere and everywhere.

It was a symbolic end to an entertaining night of live music. Time moves on and so do we ... People, even 1970s disco sex symbols, gotta move.

A LETTER FROM WINNIPEG WRITTEN BY A GINO VANNELLI ON FRIDAY 17 APRIL 2009...

GINO VANNELLI AT THE MCPHILLIPS STREET STATION CASINO, WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA
A letter to the Editors of the Gino Vannelli newspaper dated April 16, 2009:

Dear Barend & Trees:
Tonight my wife and I enjoyed seeing Gino Vannelli and his Portland Band here in Winnipeg at the McPhillips Street Station Casino. The concert was a sell-out and was fabulous - excellent in every way! Gino sang for almost two hours with no break. The songs he sang were his hits, but he has reworked them to sound even better than the originals.

After the performance, Gino met his fans and willingly spoke a few words with them, permitted his fans to take pictures with him, and sign albums and photos. Gino is all class. He was so friendly to his fans who adore him and his music.

I have heard rumours that Gino plans to record another new album with his Portland band and may have started to do so already. His fans look forward to it.
Best wishes,
Lynn & Charles Jaworski

Thanks from the editors to Charles & Lynn for their letter to the Gino Vannelli newspaper.

There's no stopping Gino Vannelli

Gino Vannelli has gotta move.
Make that still gotta move -- decades after the Montreal singer first topped the charts, the 56-year-old Vannelli remains as creatively driven as ever.

"I'm someone who keeps looking for new things," explains Vannelli from his home near Portland, Ore. Vannelli performs at Century Casino on Saturday.

"Music is a very important language, and it's a language that can become stale very quickly. One can get bored after being in it for a while. So taking the mixer and shaking it up is always a good thing."

Vannelli has been shaking things up since the early '70s, when he and his famous head of curls burst onto the pop radar with hits such as People Gotta Move, I Just Wanna Stop, Black Cars, Hurts to Be in Love and Living Inside Myself.

But when his career reached a crossroads in the '90s, Vannelli faced a tough decision: His money or his artistic life.

"About 10 or 15 years ago, I was given the opportunity to become a revue artist, a shadow of myself," he says. "I was offered quite a bit of money to do it, but I couldn't. I knew in a year or two I would be less than a shadow. I knew that by walking away from it, the rewards would be greater. And they are greater."

Vannelli has spent the past several years and albums broadening his musical horizons into the realms of contemporary jazz, blues, Latin and classical. His latest European-only release, A Good Thing, is accompanied by a book of poetry. It was recorded in The Netherlands, where he now spends half the year.

"I keep a place in Holland now because I perform so much in Europe that it just became impractical to fly back and forth," he says. "But within six months of going there, the poetry started flowing out of me. After 40 or 50 poems, I thought it was time to put some to music. There was no grand design, other than turning over another new leaf."

While he tries to find a North American label willing to put out A Good Thing without alterations, he's also rehearsing his "West Coast band" for a string of North American dates -- including his first Canadian concerts in years.

"It's gonna feel like the very first time," he says, adding his show combines highlights from his past with his current musical preferences. "I will play the songs people know. There's no doubt about that. I think it's important for an artist to recognize his past. But if you just try to reflect it perfectly and be who you were 20 or 30 years ago, it's boring."

Past and present will also meet in his next CD, which will feature newly arranged, re-recorded versions of his classic hits, he says. "We're bettering the best-of -- taking all the songs people know and totally remaking them."

Bottom line: Vannelli just doesn't wanna stop.

Gino Vannelli isn't slowing down

GINO VANNELLI INTERVIEW WITH PICTURES IN THE REVOLVER MAGAZINE

REVOLVER #25 APRIL 2009.
The editors received a message from Gino Vannelli's record company about a new GINO VANNELLI interview with pictures in REVOLVER #25 April 2009. A music magazine from Holland in the Dutch language!!! The titel in Dutch is

"Gino Vannelli: De paden op, de lanen in..." The literal translation to English is: 'The paths on the lanes in'

but in Dutch it's more a song people sing when they make long walks or hikes to keep the spirits high! Difficult to explain!

Anyways, this article starts very weird but that's our personal opinion... You have to read it yourself, that's why we mention this in our Gino Vannelli newspaper so you can decide to Buy this Revolver magazine or not!?

Monday 19 January 2009:
DIDO GINO VANNELLI'S CONGA TIMBALES MAN... THE GIST OF THE GEMINI & A PAUPER IN PARADISE...

SAD NEWS ABOUT THIS DIDO MORRIS MUSICIAN IN GINO VANNELLI'S BAND IN THE 70'S...
The editors received sad news on this blue Monday from the Family of Dido the percussionist in Gino's band in the 70's. Gino toured a lot in this time period and this Family was around Gino all the time and they all worked on the two albums THE GIST OF THE GEMINI and A PAUPER IN PARADISE as you can see and read in the e-mail underneath of His Family. They gave permission to post their e-mail inside our Gino Vannelli web site. Here is the original e-mail and the picture:

To the "Keepers of the Memories"......In a life such as Gino's there are hundreds of thousands of memories and people woven into his tapestry and this one is such a tiny thread for him, but one of magnitude in the life of our family.....so even if this is lost in the great sea of cyber data, I will feel better having honored this memory....In the mid to late seventies, my husband at that time, Dido Morris, was the percussionist in Gino's band in Montreal....as Gino's career sky-rocketed our family transferred with the band to Los Angeles where the head office was re-located.....we all went to England while Gino was recording his album "A Pauper in Paradise" with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.....I was the artist who did the cover art and the liner portraits of the band and sang back-up on the album.....it was such a great experience in our lives and Gino's brother Joe and his lovely wife looked after our son Kemal (2 yrs. old at the time) while we worked on the album....

Kemal is now a grown singer -songwriter with his own band ..."The Kemal Evans Band".... with his first solo CD out and a pending showcase with the music moguls on the West Coast of Canada.....the music never stops....it just keeps passing through the generations like the song of one huge heart.....

my most cherished memory of Gino's music was not the huge elaborate concerts....which were awesome in scope.....but the times I was privileged to sit and listen to this beautiful young man, sitting alone at his piano, singing his songs with that magnificent Italian voice....unadorned and unamplified....that was the sweetest sound and the memory I hold most dear.....I remember Gino as a very kind and deeply thoughtful person with a very close family.....he was always very gracious to me and I have watched his amazing career unfold with great pleasure.....his concert of Italian Art Songs was such a beautiful evolution of that great voice.....I look forward to hearing where he will go next....So , in closing, I will just say that I wanted to honor the memory of Dido's wonderful musical life by forwarding this notice into the vast world of Gino Vannelli.....I am aware that it will probably never reach him .....but it was a great part of our lives and I will never forget......Warmest Regards.....Joanne Evans/McKay

This message did not get lost in cyberspace and the editors made sure Gino Vannelli read these words and Gino was deeply touched and emotional. He said immediately"straight from His heart: "Dido played on Pauper in Paradise and Gist of the Gemini and toured a long time with me. He was a gentle and beautiful man. And a fine musician. You can post the info on your site if you like...it is very real and very sad to lose Dido. Love, Gino.

Click on the picture and you can read the whole death announcement.

GINO VANNELLI PICTURES AND PHOTOS...

GINO VANNELLI DOT INFO IS A WELL-HEAD FOR GINO VANNELLI INFORMATION AND PICTURES...
People all over this world take/steal information or pictures to use everywhere for instance in Newspapers or web sites or on
t-shirts or on other Gino Vannelli goodies. We received a newspaper from Italy and also from Germany with a nice Gino Vannelli photo and guess who made this picture??? Yes Barend Verwaal one of the editors of this Gino Vannelli newspaper! Barend made this picture in Hamburg in "Der Fabrik" in 1999 and that's just 1 example. We found t-shirts with a picture made by Barend which He made in Paris in 1995 and we found this bouton badges picture on eBay with at least 8 of Barend's hand-made pictures and nobody ever asks anything! NOTHING! Sometimes we e-mail those people and ask them if they give the money they earn to Gino but than they get very mad... We as amateurs editors even ask permission to make an outside link and we ask permission to photographers (most of the time they do not give a reply, that's true!) But we always try. We are happy though to spread Gino Vannelli and His work all over this planet but sometimes the editors are so amazed when we find another GINO VANNELLI goody on the internet which is made by ourselves.
CRAZY LIFE...

Sunday 14 December 2008:

GINO VANNELLI SONGS IN DIFFERENT LISTS...
Around Christmas time Holland gets crazy again about the top 2000 and the top 100 and there is even a top 4000 of all times. So we search and search for GINO VANNELLI songs and keep on voting and get other people to vote! The problem is the Dutch language everywhere so it's hard to understand for people from other countries how to vote but if you wanna try here is the web site of the top 2000 and this time it's all about the 10 years this top 2000 exists already and they only have two Gino Vannelli songs in the list, we know because we asked them: "why???" Where is HURTS TO BE IN LOVE and where is WILD HORSES??? These songs are every year in the list but this time not! CRAZY!!! and corrupt but that's our humble opinion!!! Anyways, we can vote for POWERFUL PEOPLE and PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE... We e-mailed them pictures of the pictures-sleeves but till today they did not use them... Sooooooo...

Than a nice person at Barend's work brought us a newspaper called the Radio Veronica special with the very BEST songs ever created.. And yesssss THREE GINO VANNELLI songs in this top 1000 list:

  • WILD HORSES from 196 in the year 2007 to number 129 in 2008!!!

  • PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE from 612 in the year 2007 to number 419 in 2008!!!

- From 574 to 489 in 2008: WILD HORSES...

GINO VANNELLI DO YOU KNOW??? DID YOU KNOW'S???

GINO VANNELLI THIS AND THAT'S... SMALL-TALK & CHIT CHAT...
DO YOU KNOW??? DID YOU KNOW??? That there was a crossword puzzle in December 1997, yes 1997 eleven years ago, in an United States TV guide with a GINO VANNELLI question??? See 41 down on this picture so you will notice that the editors are NOT kidding!!! We listed this American tv guide on our Gino Vannelli promo web page.

DO YOU KNOW??? DID YOU KNOW??? That Bert van den Brink Holland's premier pianist created a musical piece called: "Impressions of the trip to Gino Vannelli" You can listen to this musical work of art here at the concertzender/concertstation web site.

DO YOU KNOW??? DID YOU KNOW??? That Gino Vannelli composed music for a peace documentary called: "The Wounded Dove" The WOUNDED DOVE will be a 5 X 1 hour television series that documents and celebrates the struggle of brave peacemakers from 1900 to the present time. Men and women around the world who worked tirelessly to foster peace, then struggled tenaciously to maintain it. A Hollywood/TV superstar has agreed to do the narration. Each episode begins with original theme music composed by Gino Vannelli played over rare archival footage drawn from international sources. Here is information about this documentary.

Another subject is books. If you go to google home page - search under "more" and books and "gino vannelli" you can see all the books Gino Vannelli is mentioned in. Unbelievable!

For instance: The book title is "Double Trouble....Alternatives." by Greil Marcus - Social Science - 2001 - 272 pages... produced a reggae version of Blues Images "Ride Captain Ride," which he opined had hit potential, and then went into Gino Vannelli s "Down with Love.".....

Underneath is a brief description and the excerpt with reference to Gino Vannelli on page #36. Roger Clinton (Bill's "black-sheep" younger brother) sang "Down with Love" at a "Bill Clinton for President" benefit at the I-Beam (Haight-Ashbury District of San Francisco). This was in 1992.

Gino Vannelli is also mentioned in the new Boston Celtics book: Top of the World: The Inside Story of the Boston Celtics' Amazing One-Year on - Page 117.

GINO VANNELLI & THE MEDIA & THE PAPARAZZI

GINO VANNELLI ON THE RED CARPET IN THE MONTRÉAL CASINO...
June 2008 Montréal, Québec, Canada, the F-1 Grand Prix is in town and also the paparazzi because big stars and celebrities are in town too. There is a "Bal de Grand Prix" in the casino of Montréal and guess who is walking the red carpet??? Mr. Gino Vannelli!!! The theme of the party was Andalusia.

There are Newspaper articles in the English and French language but we all understand the name GINO VANNELLI:

Stars come out to play

City's hot spots packed with celebrities - and those lucky enough to get close
ALANA COATES, The Gazette Published: Sunday, June 08

Friday night on Grand Prix weekend: Madness.
In it's fifth year running, the casino's Grande Nuit
de la F1 ball lived up to its reputation and went all out with the glitz to impress all our homegrown stars.

There was Canadian Idol alumnus Audrey de Montigny looking tanned and radiant, and pop star/media personality Mitsou in a black strapless dress and fuschia scarf. Roch Voisine, Caroline Néron, Jacynthe,
Gino Vannelli - the red carpet was a who's who of Quebec's A-list.

McLaren-Mercedes driver Heikki Kovalainen struck a pose for the cameras (side note: race car drivers are all so short!), while Canadiens teammates rounded out the sports contingent.

Alex Kovalev, in a pink striped shirt and white pants, professed himself to be still recovering from the whirlwind hockey season and stated his intention to spend Grand Prix weekend networking and raising money for his foundation.

Habs defenceman Mike Komisarek - who could easily win a prize for Bluest Eyes on the Red Carpet - admitted he wasn't much into all the glamour surrounding Grand Prix weekend but was looking forward to watching the races.

"It's nice to come to Montreal when the Canadiens aren't the biggest thing in town," he said.

GINO VANNELLI DO YOU KNOW / DID YOU KNOW???

GINO VANNELLI CHIT-CHAT
DO YOU KNOW/DID YOU KNOW??? That some Gino Vannelli fans found this Dutch newspaper of 2004 with a picture of GINO VANNELLI!!! This old newspaper was all wrinkled, creased and looked very dirty so the editors tried to smooth out the creases with a flat-iron and scanned the picture. So here it is:

The Dutch text literal says: "GINO VANNELLI outgrows his wild hairs and the disco..."
(Like in: sow one's wild oats or get settled down...)

MORE GINO VANNELLI AND THE BOSTON CELTICS NEWS!!!

DO THE BOSTON CELTICS WIN BECAUSE OF THIS GINO THING???
Here is another article in the Wall Street Journal: One line in this article is not so nice for the Gino Vannelli fans but the editors post this article anywas...
'Gino' Fever Grips Boston Mysterious Dancer Captivates Celtics Fans
By AMOL SHARMA
June 6, 2008; Page B10
With the NBA Finals under way, Boston Celtics fans are looking for wins. But they also have been searching for the man they call "Gino," a bearded disco dancer who appears in an old "American Bandstand" video that the team regularly plays on its Jumbotron.

The video, taken from a 1977 episode of the show, features dancers showing off the Hustle and other retro moves and is set on any given night to popular tunes of yesteryear.

The crowd erupts when one particular dancer appears, boogeying by his lonesome in a skin-tight T-shirt that says "Gino." Over time, he has achieved cult status in Beantown: Fans show up in "Gino Time" T-shirts and bust their own disco moves when the clip plays. Celtics players even imitate his arm-swinging dance.

The mysterious man called Gino, who resembles Cat Stevens or Frank Serpico, has become a cult phenomenon not just at courtside but also on the Web, and a kind of alternative mascot. But Gino is one of the accidental celebrities, now common in the Internet era, who become famous for reasons that aren't entirely clear.

In this case, no one is really sure why one dancer in a 30-year-old video packed with bell-bottoms, tall Afros and airplane collars garnered special attention.

But there are theories. "It's just that he's such a creature of the '70s -- such an odd-looking guy," says Ted Tye, a real-estate developer in the Boston area. "And he's got 'Gino' written on his shirt so he's the only identifiable character" in the video.

Gino-fan man is also a symbol for New England's love affair with its resurrected basketball team. If the video gets an airing in the Celtics' NBA Finals series with the Los Angeles Lakers, it will be a good sign for Boston fans. It runs only late in games when a Celtics victory is certain -- a nod to an older tradition, when franchise patriarch Red Auerbach used to light up a cigar when a game was under control. Some fans have dubbed the video the "virtual victory cigar."

The Celtics have been using the video for a few years, but it didn't get a mass following because the losing team didn't have many opportunities for disco celebration. This year the Celtics posted the best record in the league, and "the cult of Gino has really taken hold," Rich Gotham, the Celtics' team president, says.

The "Gino" on the dancer's T-shirt refers to the Italian-Canadian pop singer Gino Vannelli, whose 1976 tour paraphernalia includes the shirt worn by the man in the video. Mr. Vannelli says he was surprised when a musician friend told him about the Gino hubbub about six months ago. "It was like taking a weird psychedelic journey," says the 55-year-old.

Fans have been clamoring for months to learn the identity of the man wearing the shirt. "The hell with the real Gino," says one poster on a Celtics blog. "I just want the dancing, Gino fan."

Some thought they had the Gino fan found. Dave Menachery, a student at MIT's Sloan School of Management, says he was at a game when the cameras spotted a 70s-looking bearded man in the crowd and flashed him up on the Jumbotron. "Everyone started going crazy," he says, "because they all thought it was Gino -- the guy in the T-shirt, I mean."

The Celtics organization initially tried to search for the man several months ago and hoped to bring him to the TD Banknorth Garden for a game, but Mr. Gotham says superstar forward Kevin Garnett told him that might detract from the magic of the ritual. "That would ruin it," he recalls Mr. Garnett telling him. "He could be old and bald and fat now."

Dick Clark Productions, which produced "American Bandstand" until it went off the air in 1989, agreed to help locate the man after being contacted by The Wall Street Journal. The company reviewed old tapes and talked to former dancers to uncover the mystery. One dancer, Terry Izen of East Highlands, Calif., received a call a few weeks ago from another former dancer telling her to check out the Gino video on YouTube.

"I was like, 'Oh my God, it's Joe Massoni!'" says Ms. Izen, who says she is the redhead to the right of him in the video.

Ms. Izen, who is now 52 and is involved in theater, was a regular dancer on "American Bandstand" in the mid-1970s. She says didn't know Mr. Massoni very well but lent him the tight Gino Vannelli T-shirt. But she did remember stopping by his family's Italian restaurant in Rialto, Calif., between shootings one day.

So when she set out to find him, she began calling Rialto's Italian restaurants. No luck. She turned to the white pages of the phone book. On the second try, she reached a woman who said she was
Photo by Patti Battista............................ Mr. Massoni's brother's mother-in-law.

The news couldn't have been sadder. Mr. Massoni, the woman said, passed away 18 years ago from pneumonia. "I didn't want to burst everybody's bubble because it's been so neat what's been going on in Boston," Ms. Izen said. The Wall Street Journal couldn't independently verify the claim that Mr. Massoni is the deceased dancer. But Dick Clark Productions vouches for Ms. Izen's story. A spokeswoman for the San Bernardino, Calif., coroner's office confirmed that a man named Joseph R. Massoni passed away in 1990 at age 34 in Fontana, Calif. Calls to the residence of Mr. Massoni's brother weren't returned.

"If it's true, we are saddened to hear that news," says the Celtics' Mr. Gotham. "'Gino' has provided a lot of enjoyment for our fans, and his spirit will live on during the NBA Finals."

And thanks to the Internet, Mr. Massoni will be immortalized whether the Celtics win or lose.

A FEW GINO VANNELLI LINES IN THE NEWSPAPERS OF LITHUANIA AND ESTONIA

GINO VANNELLI AND BERT VAN DEN BRINK IN MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
ATTENTION people of Canada and the USA too, you have to see and hear GINO VANNELLI and Bert van den Brink live on stage in Montréal. This concert is so very special and unique!!! The vibes and electricity between the 2 musicians is just awesome! Get your tickets in time and enjoy!!!

From the Lithuanian newspaper:
The organisers have to search for instruments that would be suitable for guests before every festival. This year the big headache was to find a special accordion by which the blind pianist Bert van den Brink would like to play along with Gino Vannelli in Kaunas. Hammond organ, which will be used by the charming Barbara Dennerlein, in Kaunas and Vilnius have been transported from Warsaw.

Lines from another Lithuanian newspaper:
In brief: The 18th festival Kaunas Jazz took listeners to new and different music ports, where intriguing acquaintances awaited, with every concert. The promise of the artistic director of Kaunas Jazz Indrė Jučaitė to gladden every visitor of the festival was fulfilled – the audience was presented a great variety of concerts of high quality. The audience of Kaunas Jazz became the witness of the boldest creative experiments of the Canadian singer Gino Vannelli as well. The well-known 55-year-old has tested his forces in opera and now he enjoys the partnership with the talented blind Dutch jazz pianist Bert van den Brink. Melodic ballads and blues, texts full of life experience, opera-like vocal and fortepiano improvisations – such an unusual combination replenished the repertoire of Kaunas Jazz.

Monday 5 May 2008 :
AGAIN A LITTLE BIT OF GINO VANNELLI NEWS

WHAT'S GINO VANNELLI DOING THESE DAYS???
Gino Vannelli's concerts in Estonia and Lithuania went very well, packed concert-halls with about 2.000 seats and good feelings for Gino Vannelli and Bert van den Brink. The people of those two countries treated Gino Vannelli very well. Gino Vannelli left the two Eastern European countries with good memories and very good feelings.

Back in Holland the auditions and rehearsals started with the new Dutch quartet for the next big project: THE NORTH SEA JAZZ 2008, recordings, rehearsals, concerts and bikerides... GINO VANNELLI works hard, very hard and is back in His studio now to record THE VOICE, His voice!!! The new album release date is still planned in September 2008. But you all know: THE SUREST THINGS CAN CHANGE...

During the final rehearsal the sounds of a "crazy" WILD HORSES flow through the air and the most kicking "FROM THIS DAY ON" a wild Gino Vannelli song and the tune stays in your head for many, many days... THE DUTCH BEAT is becoming a worldclass masterpiece. And be sure you go to the North Sea Jazz on Saterday the 12th of July 2008... A GINO VANNELLI concert which will fill your heart and head with joy!!!

Tuesday 15 April 2008 :
A LITTLE BIT OF GINO VANNELLI NEWS

WHAT'S UP WITH GINO VANNELLI'S LIFE'S WORK???

Coming up Helmond and Austerlitz in Holland, Estonia, Lithuania in Eastern Europe, The North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam and The Montréal International Jazz Festival, Las Vegas, New Orleans and more cities in the southern States of America, Italy, Germany and Scandinavian countries. And last but not least the New GINO VANNELLI album. Recordings in Holland and in Portland. New projects with orchestra's and the ANWB in Holland keeps on airing new commercials with GINO VANNELLI'S "PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE..."

THE GINO VANNELLI projects:
GINO VANNELLI & the new Dutch Quartet: Karel Boehlee on Piano - Hans van Oosterhout on drums - Theo de Jong on bass - Erik Rutjes on guitar.

GINO VANNELLI & Bert van den Brink DUO-concerts.

GINO VANNELLI & the Portland Band: Randy Porter on Piano - Reinhardt Melz on drums - Sandin Wilson on bass - Patrick Lamb on Saxophone - Allen Hinds on guitar.

From this day on no time left for rest and no more time for more musical projects in 2008, plans already run into 2009... Time races by in a flash... this is the coldhearted truth about the life of a singer/musician with a warm musical heart and a golden voice.

Gino arranged a new very cool version of "Wild Horses" about the 14th...

"Woman On Top" changes and changes into a real work of Art with catchy tunes and the song builts up a tensity like you never heard before... Gino Vannelli has the tendency to create and compose very exciting and killing songs which can blow us all away!!! But people who read this already know this but we cannot say it enough times and we keep on saying this : GINO VANNELLI: The Master of Music!!!

Gino Vannelli & Kim Hoorweg singing * None So Beautiful As The Brave * Hope to see you in Helmond on Sunday 20 April 2008 for again a magical live concert with UROPA featuring GINO VANNELLI. Read here how to get tickets, real Gino Vannelli collector item tickets...

During a live performance in Rotterdam, a benefit again for terminally ill Children, Gino Vannelli performed with Uropa and to surprise us all, Gino did a duet with Kim Hoorweg a 15 years old beautiful young Lady with a voice of an angel and who already had a record deal with Verve, a jazz label, on the age of 14 years old. They sang Gino Vannelli's "None So Beautiful As The Brave" and the way Gino pushed Kim through the song was so very graceful, touching and breathtaking. Two so different voices came together in this very emotional song. Kim is the Daughter of Erwin Hoorweg who plays in Uropa on the keys... People in the audience were flabbergasted...

Thanks to Fred and Robert!!! Here we go with the e-mail of Fred T.:

Barend & Trees, The name of Gino (or at least a guy wearing a Gino Vannelli T-Shirt) is making quite a sensation here at basketball games in Boston. Here is an amusing post for your site. Regards, Fred T.

BOSTON GLOBE newspaper:

Gino night fever
A mysterious man is conquering the Garden, one booty at a time

Gino night fever
A mysterious man is conquering the Garden, one booty at a time
SOMEBODY HAS BROUGHT sexy back to the Garden - and it's not Justin Timberlake or that guy the Celtics imported from the Timberwolves. Look up. There is hotness on the Jumbotron.

(Illustrations/James Krause)
more stories like thisWhen things are going irreversibly great for the Celtics, which is to say frequently, here comes "Shake Your Booty" on the sound system along with a clip from disco-era "American Bandstand." The clip has lots of dancers. But amid the Afros and the flamboyance and the groups doing the Hustle, the bearded white guy dancing with himself in the snug Gino Vannelli top stands out. He looks like he cut Mr. Kotter's class to boogie at Dick Clark's. His shirt is too tight. But his moves are just right.

At Celtics games, this moment has been christened Gino Time. When it arrives, dudes (and dames) rise up from their chairs, beer in one hand, pumped fist in the other, upper teeth gently pressing down on lower lip, and begin to do the Gino. A small sample suggests this dance is undoable. Gino's hips undulate. His arms swing gracefully from near his head down to his waist and into a soft clap. He's committing a roller-rink seduction with no skates.

These moves are from a simpler time. No one who learned to dance after 1980 knows how to flow like that. At the Garden, the Gino is basically whatever happens to your body when music plays. It is often "wave your hands in the air, wave 'em like you just don't care." It's often as unsightly as the home victories are glorious. The team began playing the "Bandstand" moment a few years ago. But in a winning season, the clip has become an infectious phenomenon. There are T-shirts. There are rumors (maybe KG does the Gino, too). There is the magical, unprecedented sight of people surnamed McNulty and Callinan dancing at a Boston Celtics basketball game - from good seats and bad.

One of the pleasures of this craze has been watching the main show shift from the parquet floor to the stands. You can see the players on the bench turn into astonished spectators of the unsafe-looking, borderline disinhibition erupting in the stands. The Celtics look on in much the same way the nation watched Jonathan Papelbon's Riverdance - in cringing amusement.

Someday, Gino might also give the Celtics its "Sweet Caroline," a stupid ritual that turns collectively cathartic - a holy necessity. But the "Bandstand" clip is still at the novelty stage. For one thing, the featured groover's name is unknown (the Celtics are trying to find him in order to make a documentary about him). His shirt says "Gino," as in Gino Vannelli, the curiously irresistible Italian-Canadian singer whose 1978 hit "I Just Wanna Stop" remains a velour-padded slow jam.

For another, Gino was plucked, YouTube-style, from a kitsch graveyard (the screen shows a VH-1 logo) and who's to say some other viral-video craze won't replace it? In the meantime, someone very real and very gymnastic must be worried: the Celtics' Lucky the Leprechaun. His obsolescence could be imminent. Who needs a live mascot when you can download one from YouTube?

That any of this is happening at Celtics games is richly ironic, since it's the sort of distraction Red Auerbach disdained for his team. He was a purist. The T-shirt cannons, the Jumbotron, the acrobatic mascot, the cheerleaders: it's all noisy pizzazz. What about the basketball? (Doc Rivers doesn't seem all that crazy about the frippery, either.) People who miss the austerity of the Auerbach era might want to cover their ears. Not that it will do any good. Your heart might long for no-frills Celtics, but when it's Gino Time your heinie might beg to differ. By Wesley Morris, January 13, 2008

And we go on with..... The e-mail of Bob/Robert I. Scalzo: This article was in the Sunday Boston Globe newspaper. I hope you are well and thanks for the great work. Bob

Singer amused by fans' call for a 'T'
Vannelli just wants to stop illegal sales

Singer Gino Vannelli has suddenly become popular with Celtics fans - but he sees a foul on the play.

By Marc J. Spears
Globe Staff / January 6, 2008

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The real Gino behind the Gino T-shirt is excited about the Gino craze at Celtics home games but is concerned about T-shirt sales.

more stories like this When the Celtics have a home win in hand and a timeout arrives, an old video from "American Bandstand" is often shown on the Jumbotron at TD Banknorth Garden. Of all the dancers shown, fans get most excited about a bearded man who is grooving slowly while wearing a tight shirt that reads "Gino."

The shirt refers to Gino Vannelli, an Italian-Canadian singer, songwriter, musician, and composer, and it is from one of his 1970s concert tours.

On Friday, Vannelli said he recently saw the "Gino" video on YouTube and is excited that Celtics fans are getting joy from it.

"It's almost as if when I look at that YouTube thing that I was standing out of my body and I wasn't on the planet anymore, just sort of looking back on the grave," said Vannelli in a phone interview. "I remember that T-shirt from the '70s from a tour from my 'Gemini' album.

"The main thing is the Celtics are doing really good. Whatever inspires people . . . It is a totally bizarre thing. Perhaps I ought to make an appearance to sing the national anthem to set the record straight on who the real Gino is.

"I heard about it [two weeks] ago. I heard about it in Holland. People sent me the YouTube link. I gawked and chuckled about it."

Gino-style T-shirts are being worn by fans and even being sold online at press.com. One reads, "Kevin & Paul & Ray & Gino," another says, "The Big Three," with a picture of triplet Ginos and the replica Vannelli concert T-shirt. "I want to buy one of those," said brawny Celtics rookie Glen Davis. "I'm going to get a 2XL so my [muscles] will show."

Vannelli, however, said that the website has not received permission to sell his old concert T-shirt.

"I have no connection with that," said Vannelli, who splits time living in Holland and Oregon. "I believe that they have to get the permission from the record company and my permission. I want to make sure it's on the up and up."

An e-mail from the website in response to a Globe inquiry said, "Press.com is an automated service that allows independent users to upload art and sell merchandise featuring that art. During this process our users agree to terms and conditions and ultimately they are responsible for the content they upload. We looked into the images in question and have decided they should be removed from the system. You will notice that the products are no longer available for sale, and as our site reindexes the images will disappear from from search.

As of yesterday afternoon, however, the Vannelli T-shirts in question were still being sold.

Monday 3 December 2007:
GINO VANNELLI'S PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE & CANTO

A SOLD OUT CONCERTGEBOUW IN AMSTERDAM, HOLLAND
Saterday evening 1 December 2007 in the most beautiful concertgebouw (concertbuilding) in Amsterdam, the big concert-hall completely sold out. Gino Vannelli, Lucas Jussen, Jooske Heijsteeg and the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Conductor Jaap van Zweden an evening to remember and the proceeds are for a very good charity called the Papageno foundation for autistic children and this foundation is specialized and do deep research in music theraphy for autistic children.

This special concert is in many ways organized for the right reasons and Gino Vannelli gave hand and heart to this good, very good musical project...

Gino Vannelli gave everything for the full 1000% and together with the extreme talented and very cute Lucas Jussen and the beautiful orchestra they performed CANTO live on this amazing wonderful stage.

During the first tunes of CANTO the editors were so shocked about the greatness of this Gino Vannelli masterpiece, we could not hold our eyes dry, Gino's voice the young boy behind this huge black grand-piano and the whole orchestra..... WHAT A DREAM!!! WHAT A JOY!!! The way Lucas played cannot be told with words, you have to hear and feel the way Lucas moves his fingers on the black and white keys, it's like ballet on the grand-piano... Read more on this web page, the editors will tell as much as we can... and show pictures. We are working on a new web page so you all can see and feel a little bit of this amazing evening where the sounds and melodies of Bach, Chopin and Gino Vannelli came together in the Dutch air...Gino Vannelli and Jaap van Zweden

We all know the dedication to music of Gino Vannelli but we have seen Jaap van Sweden, the conductor, now............... And this man is music, lives music!!! Jaap van Zweden and Gino Vannelli working together is energy and electricity and musical knowledge.

In spite of big problems Gino Vannelli put His heart into these 2 live performances of PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE and CANTO. PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE made us smile, soooo FANTASTIC!!! The feelings after Gino Vannelli's performance were super positive and people were amazed to hear Gino sing like an opera singer... that's what the editors heard in the audience. You have to remember that most of the audience were people who go to classical concerts.

BIG THANKS TO GINO VANNELLI & ROSS VANNELLI FOR THEIR DEVOTION AN DEDICATION TO MUSIC!!! BIG THANKS FOR GIVING THE FANS THE BEST THEY CAN POSSIBLY GIVE!!!

GINO VANNELLI... PICTURE PAPARAZZI OR NOT???

A MOMENT IN GINO VANNELLI'S DRESSINGROOM
Too private or not??? You decide if this picture is too private or not. It's komkommertijd (cucumbertime) in Holland, means Summertime, no big news, everybody is on vacation and newspapers show unimportant news and even make up news. In English: The dull season, the silly season or or in America they use: "the big gooseberry time". Any ways... This professional photographer Clemens Rikken made this picture of Gino in a private moment just before the live performance for the Vara tv program "De Wereld Draait door..." This picture is published on the world wide web already so we thought to show it to you too... with Clemens Rikken permission of course. Here you can see the original GINO VANNELLI picture and another one which are more sharper on the Clemens Rikken web site... When you save the picture Gino Vannelli's face get a kind of blur. Good trick!!!

GINO VANNELLI NEWS FROM DENMARK AND FROM HOLLAND

THE ONLY REVIEW FROM DENMARK AND GINO VANNELLI BACK IN HOLLAND
We received a concert review from Denmark. The only one from last July 2007 in Copenhagen. We Know Gino and His Wife worked very hard in less than two weeks. Master Classes, rehearsals, arranging, 5 concerts, travelling in Denmark... The Editors (B&T) were not there so we could not make pictures... The only review we received is an e-mail from Henrik and we wanted to post this e-mail because at least we still have one memory/souvenir of this period in June/July 2007 in Odense, Copenhagen and Bornholm in Denmark. Thanks to Henrik here is the review:

Dear Barend & Trees, My family and I enjoyed the first concert in Copenhagen (2. juli.2007) The concert in general was nice but Gino appeared in the last quarterpart only. So we missed him in the beginning.

He performed 5 songs: Wheels of life, Brother to brother, Don´t give up on me, People gotta move, and one more.

As always his performance was great and I am looking forward to next concert when it comes. Perhaps in Stockholm later this year.

I am not a musician myself so you must think of somebody else. But I have enjoyed the music of Gino since one evening in 1975 when I heard "Gettin´high" on the radio. VBR Henrik L.

While Gino Vannelli works hard again in His studio in Portland with Niels Lan Doky and Michiel Borstlap, this hard work will bring us great joy in the future with a new album and a new dvd... Holland is looking forward to 8 September 2007... Two Gino Vannelli concerts on the same evening, WOW!!! That will be spectacular and people will be racing between Rotterdam - Laren - Capelle aan den IJssel... Life can be beautiful when you can enjoy music, good music, GINO VANNELLI'S MUSIC!!!

Do not forget to check out and read our Gino Vannelli tour data and information web page.

A few lines: "A long way and more than one career"
"I came back to Holland and it hit me"
"It's all about balance. That's what I teach my students too: Songwriting is finding the balance between left and right. Left is for freedom and right is for structure."

FRANCE: Muziq No.10 Juillet-Août-Septembre 2007 M 06311-10-F:4,80 EURO€-RD

Announcement on page 3. And on page 62 up to page 70 pretty big interview with many pictures and even 2 very big pictures which cover a page and more...
The title is: "LA VIE D'UN ARTISTE"

A few lines:"J'aime beaucoup Venus Envy, un très bonne pop song"
"Dans Canto, il y a des choses dont je suis particulièrement fier, et les gens apprécieront cet album, à un moment ou à un autre."

A web site of a professional photographer called Jan van Breda with 2 Gino Vannelli pictures. (No more links because Gino's photos are gone and that means no more links to that web site...)

Sunday 15 July 2007 :
THE BIZARRE GINO VANNELLI HAPPENING AT THE NORTH SEA JAZZ FESTIVAL IN ROTTERDAM, HOLLAND ON SATERDAY 14 JULY 2007.

A TOO SMALL, TOO CROWDED CONCERT-HALL, PEOPLE FIGHTING FOR A SEAT, PEOPLE CRYING AND A SUPERB GINO VANNELLI & MICHIEL BORSTLAP CONCERT.
Gino Vannelli's BLACK CARS by Michiel Borstlap, Erik Kooger, Boudewijn Lucas and the incredible voice of GINO VANNELLI!!! Gino Vannelli's name was in the Dutch news this Sunday because of the bizarre attendance and why the people who were inside the Darling Hall were so happy... They mentioned Gino Vannelli's name at least 4 times in a few seconds on tv Rijnmond. 400 - 600 people were still outside the concert-hall and were not allowed to go inside because it was not safe, imagine the faces of those people all down of disappointment and some cried like little children.

This amount of people who wanted to see Gino was a milestone in Gino Vannelli's career. People literal had to fight for a seat, the doors were closed because there were already too many people inside and you can guess they did not want to leave...

The voice was superb, powerful, strong and passionate and reached the levels of superb VANNELLI quality and together with Michiel Borstlap's sound of the keyboard/piano, the agressive drumms and the violent bass the audience was impressed very deep, deep to the bones. The sound was incredible and even when you never ever heard of Gino Vannelli's music and you were in the Darling Hall from 10pm till 11.30pm you were in a weird kind of flush or whirl of excitement. On the first row where people were hanging on the high stage the tears came down like in a waterfall...

We all know about the looks of Gino and His humour but when they started a super cool version of "Black Cars" Gino hung a black and white scarf on His snow white shirt and all 4 of them put on deep dark sun-glasses the audience went wild.
"She's a dark angel wearing dark glasses..."

A drummer who got the attention of the audience because of his wild, strong and powerful drumming, Erik Kooger who wanted to kill the drum in a very positive way and he must feel his arms and wrists today and many days more... Michiel Borstlap & Erik Kooger & Boudewijn Lucas played Gino Vannelli's music so intense and with love...

Super good setlist with 3 new songs which are not recorded on cd yet...
- Don't Give Up - Gipsy Days - Rosebud -

The editors (B&T) type this article on another computer because the editors computers crashed like hell... due to a virus or just the hard-disk could not bear all the Gino Vannelli stuff anymore... and as soon as possible we will make a North Sea Jazz web page with many pictures and words... GINO VANNELLI & Michiel Borstlap IS BIG NEWS in Holland this weekend!!!

AN OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FROM THE TV MANAGER OF TV2 BORNHOLM, DENMARK

GINO VANNELLI & LISA NILLSON PERFORM TOGETHER ON STAGE ON THE ISLAND OF BORNHOLM
Here we show the press release to promote 2 special concerts on a very special and beautiful island which belongs to Denmark:

Five World Stars Are Coming To Bornholm.
TV 2/Bornholm is organizing, together with Musikhuzet in Rønne on the island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea, two concerts with absolute world stars of jazz music. The concerts will take place on July 5 and 6. At the first concert, saxophone-player David Sanborn will be performing together with trumpet-player Randy Brecker. The following day, singers Gino Vannelli and Lisa Nilsson will be on stage. At both concerts the band of Danish piano-player Niels Lan Doky will be performing.

The concerts will be recorded for TV, and combined with a number of interviews they will be put together into a new jazz documentary by Niels Lan Doky. In 2005 Niels Lan Doky launched the documentary, ”Between a smile and a tear”. His second film will be recorded in places around and on Bornholm.

The friendship of American musicians Sanborn and Brecker dates back decades, and both of them are double Grammy-winners. During their careers, they have performed together several times, so they know each other very well. Moreover, they have played separately with huge names like Sting, Eric Clapton, Larry Coryell, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon and James Taylor.

The following day, the instrumental musicians will be replaced by two singers, who have never worked together before, but both of them are looking forward to the encounter: Swedish Lisa Nilsson and Canadian Gino Vannelli. Lisa Nilsson is certainly not unknown in Denmark. Her 1992 break-through album, ”Himlen Runt Hörnet”, was sold in Denmark by the thousands. Lisa Nilsson has wandered from pop to jazz, having done recordings with e.g. Danish Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen. She is excited to come and sing with Gino Vannelli, who has a series of albums behind him, ranging from pop, with associations to Frank Sinatra, and to jazz and funk.

Both nights, the band of Niels Lan Dokys will be there, including: Niels Lan Doky (piano),
Mads Vinding (bass),
Terri Lyne Carrington (drums),
Xavier Desandre-Navarre (percussion)
Mikkel Nordsø (guitar)

Only 340 tickets will be available per concert. Price: 680 DKK per ticket plus a fee of 15 DKK.
Tickets can be bougth on TV2 Bornholm
Tickets will be sent to you by mail.

A GINO VANNELLI ARTICLE IN A DUTCH LOCAL NEWSPAPER

HOW DO YOU WRITE A HIT??? "NOT IN TWO HOURS"

Waarom Gino Vannelli? „Mijn leraar Alexander Beets heeft contact met Gino", zegt organisator/student Daniel Versteegh (24). „Gino is een inspirerende persoonlijkheid. Heeft zijn carrière heel eigenzinnig vormgegeven. Wil hij jazz of klassiek, dan doet hij dat gewoon."

Gino Vannelli teaches songwriting...

ANWB

Vannelli: „Het moet het 'We are the World' worden voor alle kankerpatiëntjes.

We don't care, we zijn professionele songwriters, you know."

Friday 24 November 2006 - Tilburg - Worldstar and ex-ladykiller Gino Vannelli started a masterclass yesterday at the Rockacademie of Tilburg, Holland.

"My mother told me to go..."

While most of the students trickled in too late, the Master was already playing in and prepared Himself... Grey curls, little beard, pair of glasses and a fluffy pink sweater. In the past He stared with a far away look in His eyes and with a naked (hairy/curly) breast into the teenage girls bedrooms. But also sex-symbols get older.

Gino Vannelli responsible in the 80's for top world hits like "It Hurts To Be In Love" and "Wild Horses" and more faster pumping hearts in the bodies of the romantic people, especially female. Yesterday the friendly 53 years old Canadian from Italian roots started a two days masterclass at the Rockacademie in Tilburg.
"The art of songwriting", or how to write a hit?
Why Gino Vannelli? "My teacher Alexander Beets has good contact with Gino" says the organizer/student Daniel Versteegh (24)." Gino is an inspiring personallity. He designed His own career very headstrong. If He wants jazz or classical He does Jazz or classical."

ANWB
According to Versteegh, who is a successful singer/songwriter himself, but still without a hit, 50+ Vannelli wants to share His knowledge with young talent. He has to confess that not all the students reacted very enthusiastic, compared to their Mothers.

Anyways, Vannelli is hip and popular again since the use of His soulfunkclassic "People Gotta Move"in the ANWB commercials. But how do you write such a top hit? "Not in 2 hours" gave Vannelli away to about 25 students, mostly songwriters. "But in two days we can do a lot. He says: "the most important thing is the right mood, give your muses a chance". So they made a cosy circle, powered down the spotlights. "First introduce yourselves and tell us what you are doing overhere." "My mother told me to go", said the giggling Janneke, to say hello. "So here I am: HELLO". But of course she is here too to learn something - like the others - The first practice is based on a poem, written by a 9 year old terminal cancerpatient. The assignment: Write music for or with the poem, or rather a hit.

Vannelli: "This hit must grow into the 'We Are The world' for all the cancerpatients. And remember the recordcompany wants to release it NOW". Somebody tries a rap. Too delicate for a rap, says Vannelli. Participant Ivo improvise a not without merit r&b version. "Too boy bandish", says the Master. "It can show more darkness, a child is dying here eh?"

Than Vannelli jumps behind the keyboard Himself and makes an attempt.
A student reacts: "Can I be very honest?" "I think it's over the top"." "Very, yes very, Céline Dion -ish", says the rapper, "not real, not true".

Gino Vannelli: The Master of the class!!! Vannelli builts a bridge to the importance of the state of mind. "Look, this song needs a fragile formation. Put yourself in that state of mind. sound and feel like you are in a very bad state of mind even when you feel good!

We don't care, we are professional songwriters, you know".
