*** Do or did you know : That a 1984/1985 lp release by ROSS VANNELLI with his band called SENDER the album is titled EXILED ON THE EARTH (RCA KKL 10547) includes LEE RITENOUR and JOE VANNELLI. GINO wrote one song and arranged the title song. "Just the beat of my heart". We do not know where it is available on sale....We think this LP is only for sale at second - hand stores. Did you ever hear the Sender LP "Exiled on Earth"? Ross Vannelli was the lead vocalist on the LP and of this group. Anyway, 3 of the songs GINO was involved with. The first one "Stuck on a Star" he co-wrote the music with Gloria Sklerov. The 2nd track "Just the Beat of my Heart" he and Ross co-wrote the lyrics and music and the 3rd track with same title as the LP "Exiled on Earth" GINO did the arrangements with Lee Ritenour and Ross. Very good LP for 1984/1985. Just right for that time period. Ross sings well. Kinda rock and roll. The song "Stuck on a Star" of which Ross wrote the lyrics, sounds like it might be autobiographical. He sings about the ladies he is interested in are just looking at the "star - the drummer" and wishing they were with him. Like they only talk to Ross to get near GINO ?????? Probably reading way too much into these lyrics - If you have heard this LP tell us your feelings about the songs and music please.....
Joe Vannelli played on the LP also. But no GINO vocals - oh well. He writes good music.... needless to say ??????

said, we both got a BIG smiles on our faces..........The DJ said something like :
Gino Vannelli created pop albums of musical and vocal top quality and the DJ was very proud to play Gino Vannelli's songs in the Dutch top 2000.
We both could not agree more but if we were the big bosses of this radio program we
should have the first 25 noooooo 100 places of this top 2000 for a "few" GINO VANNELLI songs !!!

A yell..... a scream.....a shock in a very good way...... we always feel excited and flushed with joy when we hear Gino Vannelli's name or Gino Vannelli's music and voice on the Radio or TV and we were spoiled rotten again last few weeks....... Our local radio Schiedam plays "Wild Horses" and "It Hurts To Be In Love" often and Sky Radio is a good radio station too, by the way...... all stations and channels who play GINO'S MUSIC ARE ALWAYS GOOD !!! (LOL!!!) .......And last week there was a TV program in which the Daughter of a famous piano-player in Holland called Louis van Dijk was interviewed, she is a TV host and reads also the news and now she sings live on stage with her dad behind the piano, that's why she was on TV because of her tour in Holland. If we remember well
her name is Selma van Dijk and some words in this interview caught our ears, like the name of Frits Landesbergen who also plays with her and he played the vibraphone with Gino in the Metropole Orchestra during the Roosendaal concert 23 September 2000. And than the host asked her about her own musical heroes and which music she plays and loves and GUESS WHAT ??????? Yesssssss she said she is a fan of GINO VANNELLI and played his music
very often also in the 70's and 80's..... huhhhhhh????? Yes we both heard this very well GINO VANNELLI .......and this interview gave us BIG smiles on our faces again.... Ear to ear smiles ........so if we have a chance we will go and hear this Lady sing....MUST BE GOOD !!!!!!
And the next day we had a cup of coffee in The Hague and we could not believe our ears the whole BIG DREAMERS NEVER SLEEP cd was played, my, oh my this was a very nice cup of coffee that's for sure........
Another day we meet 2 friends and the first thing they say to us : "Did you hear GINO VANNELLI on Radio 2 a few minutes ago???".
So there is UNCONDITIONAL LOVE IN HOLLAND FOR GINO VANNELLI'S MUSIC and VOICE !!!!!!

Today we received a 2 cd box from CDNOW with the album called :
Bruno Pelletier Sur Scene.
Bruno is a very famous singer from Montréal, Quebec, Canada. Also very famous in France and a BIG star from the musical/rock opera NOTRE DAME DE PARIS.
Bruno's BIG Hero is GINO VANNELLI !!! > And Bruno Pelletier's dream came true on Canada Day July the first 2000 with a live performance together with GINO VANNELLI.....You can read a story about this live performance on the fans stories webpage told by Deborah....
We both were very honoured when GINO introduced us to Bruno Pelletier in Montréal last December 2000, Bruno was very kind to us but we had no idea ( shame on us ... ) who he was at that time, we discovered that later that day during GINO VANNELLI's live concert with the Montréal Symphonic Orchestra when Bruno walked on stage to do the French part of
"The Fool" the audience went wild when they saw Bruno Pelletier..... and about thousand people in the audience told us at the same time who Bruno Pelletier was and still is ofcourse.
Later that week in Montréal we bought a few Cd's of Bruno Pelletier because we were very curious to hear his music and later in Holland we bought the Notre Dame de Paris Cd and DVD and we are a kind of addicted to Bruno's voice too now, NOT addicted like to GINO VANNELLI's voice and music but we really like Bruno's voice too.....And we feel very proud we both shaked his hands.... and received his glorious smile .....
Anyways this
Sur Scene CD is a great Musical work and there is a medley from
The Notre Dame de Paris rock opera too.
Than ......BROTHER TO BROTHER sometimes scary because for a second you think huh ???
it's Gino but than again you can hear it's Bruno
Pelletier ....... but absolutely one of the BEST covers of a GINO VANNELLI song we ever heard ...........
..... GREAT MUSICIANS too and this Kim Richardson is TOP !!! We are very happy we bought this Cd and we can recommend this 2 cd box highly, very highly !!! WOW !!! A great live album by Bruno Pelletier that's for sure and we find some famous names too in the cd-booklet, nice people who were in Gino Vannelli's crew too like Mario Haché the lightengineer and André Caron the soundengineer. Ohhh by the way the 2 cd's are picture discs............ We feel there is a lot of BIG talent born in Quebec, Canada.................

The band features two pits, one centerfield. "Gino Vannelli Rocks and so does the D.C.H.S. Marching Band" echoes at our performance. For a new generation of students and their parents, Gino Vannelli is the music of their life. State finals will be held Saturday, October 27 at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.

Thanks to Jacques in France we got some highlights in the English language and a link to the website of this newspaper in Canada :
Le Soleil Quebec. The title is " Gino n’est pas « sorteux » " ...........
In this last interview Gino said to the journalist that he spent all his time working in the studio when it s not for him it is for other guys. He also explain that their fans are very particular because they are expecting of him something different and new at every new recording. He also said that he had the chance to be on stage sometimes with some friends (NIELS LAN DOKY, ALAIN CARON, THE METROPOLE, etc...)for to cut a too long period of isolation in his studio and for the pleasure of his fans. He is not
actually the kind of artist that spent all his times on the road for a marathon tour around the world he prefers like an artisan to work in studio and he had the chance to have a strong following in all his projects.
Gino says in this interview actually he is working on two different projects. The first is a classical inspiration album a kind of follow up to A PAUPER IN PARADISE a mix of classical, pop and jazz. The second project was currently ready (music and libretto) THE FOOL but Gino need more time for finalizing and polishing the musical arrangements. After that he had spent some days in NEW YORK for choosing singers and actors for a future public performance, so you
see a very big project. A lot of producers are interested by this last project that's nice, no ??? All those news are very interesting isnt it ? directly from Québec.
This a little translation from this interview one more thing "SORTEUX" is a old french sentence it means that he didn't goes out if you prefer he didn t like to be out of his studio it comes from the french verb SORTIR (go out). The speaking in Quebec is a few different of the french speak in France. They use some sentence of old french and they speak with a different accent. The first time i ve heard Gino speaking in french if i remember well it was at the CASINO DE PARIS in 1992 he speaks to the audience
with this particular (charming) quebecer accent and that s exactly the same with belgians (wallons) and swiss people for us it s very easy to know from what part of the world they comes.

We are receiving reports that the Haitek Haiku album has been fairly visible
and well received in France since the release July 10.
On Amazon.fr , the visitors can post their comments in French to the album,
and albums that get postive comments get a higher visibility according to
some kind of star system. Supposedly the same applies in English to the
amazon.co.uk site.
We encourage you and other Gino fans to write in to amazon with your positive
comments, and would greatly appreciate your help.

Just last week on the Dutch Radio Hilversum 1, the best news channel on the radio in Holland, they played Gino Vannelli's WILD HORSES and the next day the sounds of PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE flowed with grace into the air and made BIG smiles on our and lots of people's faces........and somehow or someway it gives us a BIG kick to hear GINO VANNELLI's name on the radio.....
We also received an e-mail from Fabio in Italy and he writes : " Montecarlo broadcasted the superb
"Put the weight on my shoulders" and after that the D.J. said the Gino's opera "The Fool" will be published in the spring 2002 for an Italian or a French record company ".

Alexander Zonjic is a morning radio show
host for Smooth Jazz V98.7, in addition to being a jazz recording artist.
V98.7 is one of only 2 radio stations here in Detroit that ever play GINO.
Alexander also has the big promotions office here in Detroit (Hi-Falutin
Music) and his company started the Montreaux Jazz Festival here in Detroit
and they do all the promotions for all the Jazz Stars (Al Jarreau, Bob
James, etc..) who come to town.
He must have played "I Just Wanna Stop" a bunch of times on his radio show
and decided to put it on his new album. Since he is a flutist it should be
really interesting what rendition they have come up with of this song.

Gino Vannelli is a great example of what is lacking in today's music. Along
with Joni Mitchell, Rod Argent and a few others, he represents a different
time and philosophy. Once upon a time, excellent musicianship, attractive
melodies and rich chord-progressions were valued. I feel SO sorry for these
kids and young adults today. It's so sad that there is a whole generation
that thinks Madonna, Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit etc. are coherent. When they find
out what has been kept from them, there will be a revolution, and quality
will be restored.

If this setbox will be published I shall buy it immediately.

WHAT IS AM RECORDS doing with the 6 fiRST GINO VANNELLI albums ????
I WANT A COMPLETE EDITION IN A SETBOX with a great booklet a 24 bit
remastered edition and a lot of remix and rare and/or unreleased tracks. If
it 's not enough to ask ...
I ve since a long time a little idea to submit. The complete AM catalogue
of GINO s recordings was pressed for the first time on cd in 1988, I think,
it will be a great idea to pressed and sold again in the 24 bit technology
and why not in a digipack edition.
On EBAY you can see sometimes the CRAZY LIFE cd sold 100 and more dollars
only for an album of 25 minutes of music. So my idea is for less than 100 $
it will be probably viable to made and sold a boxset with the complete AM
recordings in an enhanced edition and added with some rarities.
In JAPAN some producers are pressing cd's of cult artists in a serie of 100
to 300 only.
So my idea is : do you think that on your web site or on the ginov.com site
it will be possible to preorder (without money just for have an idea of how
many people can be interested) with people all around the world which are
interested by a limited enhanced edition of the complete Gino's AM
catalogue in a nice boxset. Later if the quantitie of people interested is
enough, may be VIE RECORDS or hip-ho or anybody company will be ok for the
release of this nice collector.
I think the idea will be great to submit to GINO and why not, possible if
all the fans around the world preorder seriously these precious recordings?
I think the idea is also good for the unreleased TWISTED HEARTS album.
What do you think of that ?

However, it looks like he has recorded in this area due to the press release I read from ASC in Eugene, Oregon.

We heard and read that some people say and write that Montréal is close by Rimousky, that is a fairy tale. People say or write everything without an investigation before, they say or write something without thinking, and people start e-mailing us and asking us all kind of information, we like to give good and honest information to everybody....... and to give good information one have to investigate and search and ask around. We received information from The Quebec Tourist department and it is 539 kilometers (335 miles), yes really 539 kilometers (335 Miles), from Montréal to Rimouski, Quebec. That's more kilometers from our home in Holland to Paris. But there is an airport in Rimouski - East, so you can check out if you can fly from Montréal to Rimousky.
But a car-ride will be very beautiful too through this wonderful Canadian land. So if you really, really want to see and hear GINO VANNELLI live on stage again or for the first time it's worth while to make such a BIG trip up north in Canada.
A VACATION IN QUEBEC ......... JUST PERFECT !!!
Especially when there is a GINO VANNELLI live concert !!!

We received an e-mail from a Dutch Gino Vannelli Fan that he bought the Haitek Haiku cd at the Bijenkorf in Amsterdam so people who do not have internet can buy the Haitek Haiku CD now at the Bijenkorf and we shall check out the other BIG record stores too. It's great that the Haiktek Haiku cd is for sale at the Bijenkorf, in Rotterdam they have a BIG CD department and GINO VANNELLI has his own section out there. And a lot of people shop at the Bijenkorf !!!
This remembers us about Donner - Rotterdam, a very BIG and famous bookstore with a CD department, we were there last week and we saw the GINO VANNELLI section at the back of the rack so we rebuilt it and put Gino's nameplate and CD's in the front so people could see the CD-pictures-sleeve !! Always fun to do and we cannot stop ourselves.........
So Holland it's for sure you can order or buy the Haitek Haiku CD now in the record stores.

Yesterday Saterday the 30rd of June 2001 we received a complete new GINO VANNELLI item and we did not know that this BLACK CARS PICTURE DISC CD, CD not LP, was released in 1984, but it was released in 1984 only in Germany, Europe, just like the PICTURE DISC LP.
This picture CD is really cute and has the same car picture on the cd as on the LP and on the license plate you can see the name : VANNELLI.
On the front cover is printed : "Limited Edition Picture disc".
AGAIN A GREAT GINO VANNELLI TREASURE !!!
We really do not know all the GINO VANNELLI items which are released over the years and once in a while we find something new and that's the great thing about collecting.

We are sorry again but the Paris Haitek Haiku live concert is cancelled too for the 9th of July 2001. It's for sure now it will NOT happen !
They want to postpone it to the Fall for all kind of different reasons and business matters.
The Haitek Haiku album will
still be released in France on July the 10th 2001.
So we all have to go to the Jazz Festival of Copenhagen in Denmark !!
At this Copenhagen Jazz Festival you can also go to a Dianne Reeves concert
with OTMARO RUIZ as the Piano-Player and the Keyboards-Player!!!

We are sorry but the BIG bosses do not book the Haitek Haiku concert in Amsterdam and now it is final! You will see at the Melkweg website that they changed the line on the 10th of July from Gino Vannelli to : "Niels Lan Doky "Haitek Haiku" featuring Gino Vannelli" and there is also a time but next week you will see cancelled !! It's a pity because they do not realize what they will miss.
So let's keep our fingers crossed for Paris, we will write about Paris as soon as we hear news, you can be sure of that.
The positive thing out of this all is that we have a lot of "news" these days in our

We will never ever forget this Thursday of the 21 st of June 2001, e-mails and e-mails and more e-mails from the crazy music business world of all important people like promotors, booking agencies, venues and publicity and promoting departments, FIRST YES Amsterdam, than NO Amsterdam, than yes.... again and than no... again.
We write the Amsterdam news on our GINO VANNELLI website on different pages and suddenly we have to remove it all again, we e-mail more than 200 people, most of them GINO VANNELLI FANS and the same day we have to e-mail them all again and give them all a BIG disappointment !!! OK but there is still hope for Amsterdam !!!! That's the latest e-mail we received on this Thursdayevening the 21st of June 2001 at 22.16pm : a quarter past 10 in the evening. |

My, oh my, we hope Niels Lan Doky and GINO VANNELLI can keep their heads by music and creating music and that they can do their life's work without worrying about business matters in this crazy music world.
we feel they deserve totally and completely artistic freedom and that the business people allow us, the fans, to enjoy our favorite artists live on stage and that the business people give the artists a chance to perform live in good venues and in artistic and musical freedom !!!
So the only concert which is 100% confirmed now at this moment is Copenhagen, Denmark and Paris is still to be confirmed !!! So beware !!!
Amsterdam is so confusing BUT THERE IS STILL HOPE !!!! One advice : stay tuned, we wait now with e-mailing you all again, we bet you got really sick of us (LOL!!!)

Frank N. Steiner is just a name that Gino Vannelli came up with to have a name that
sounds something close to "Frankenstein".
The guy's name is Francis Nicholas
Steiner, which would be Frank N. Steiner. Sounds like "Frankenstein" if you
say it fast.
I guess the idea with Frank N. Steiner is like with Frankenstein, that he is
a monster on the surface, but deep down inside, there is a normal person.

Allo ! how are you !
The concert in Caracas has been good for shure, nice venue, the band was tight
and had fun to play.The Orchestra did a great job on their side too.They
were conducted by Simon Leclerc the same conductor that you've saw in
Montréal. He still did a really good act. After the show we received lots of
good comments from the productions and fans. Productions probably has
understood what was the reason of all those reherseals....
Gino told me on my last E mail from him that he had enjoy the experience
over there and has received good comments on his side about the show.
Overall was a great succes....

Jimmy Haslip, Jeroen de Rijk, Jorris Roelofs, Dado Moroni and Frits Landesbergen played with their hearts again....

Sunday afternoon again a live jazz concert, Jimmy Haslip, Jeroen de Rijk and Frits Landesbergen who played the drums again......Frits played the vibraphoon during the GINO VANNELLI / Metropole Orchestra concert in Roosendaal, to see and hear him play the drums now was really amazing and the joy he showed in playing was great !!
Jorris Roelofs was the winner of a musical competition during the Hifi show and on sunday afternoon he played as a guest in this band.
We could not believe our ears, what a talent and what a great Sax-Player and the way Jimmy, Jeroen, Dado and Frits played together with Jorris in harmony was very touching,
those musicians do not play much with eachother they all come from different countries :
USA, Holland and Italy but give them all an instrument and they speak the same language my, oh my we enjoyed the concert so much, MUCH too MUCH !!!
During the concert Jeroen de Rijk told short stories and GINO VANNELLI's name was mentioned !!! Jeroen said that when he was a young man and bought his first albums of the YellowJackets, GINO VANNELLI and Chaka Khan there was always this bass-guitar player called Jimmy Haslip who was and still is his hero and Jeroen still could not believe he plays now with Jimmy Haslip live on stage, Jeroen is still confused about this !!! (LOL!!!) After the concert we could thank all the Guys and guess what ??? We got a BIG present from Jimmy Haslip and all the bandmembers, they made us so shy but very happy !! It was a real gift from their hearts, a CD called :
" De doelen Lente HIFI show volume 1 2001 " . What a gift of wonderful Music !! On this CD play some famous Jazz musicians from Holland and also a Guitar-Player from Uruguay called : Leonardo Amuendo who knows Otmaro Ruiz so there was a lot to talk about..................Thank god we also had a chance to thank this young man Jorris who played the sax like a real genius.
And it was a real joy again to see and hear Jimmy Haslip play, Jimmy was so proud of
Jorris and Jimmy said that Jorris is a good-hearted boy.
While typing this article we listen to this Doelen cd and it is just beautiful and relaxing.... Life is so beautiful with MUSIC !!! GOOD MUSIC !!!!

Friday evening we visited the Doelen in Rotterdam, Holland.
There is a Hifi show this weekend and more important there is also live JAZZ music, at 8 o'clock in the evening these is a live concert with "THE" JIMMY HASLIP : The Master of the Bass-guitar !!!
Jeroen de Rijk : Percussion, Frits Landesbergen : Drumms, and a famous Dutch piano-player
Michiel Borstlap, WOW !!! What a special group of very special and good Musicians and yes we were blown away by the music and the way these Guys played, a real evening in music-heaven again!! and yessss after this FANTASTIC live concert. played from their hearts, there was a lot of Gino Vannelli talking ofcourse....... Real good hearted Musicians and we always feel very comfortable around these honest, non-fake people who can communicate through their music....... We decided to go this sundayafternoon too because at 4 o'clock this afternoon there will be a live concert again called " Speak low" .
It's a trio with Jeroen de Rijk, Dado Moroni and Jimmy Haslip !!! My, oh my we have a very musical weekend again with SUPERB Musicians !!! Music the Joy in life for sure !!!
