Pure and honest opinions about Gino Vannelli's album : THESE ARE THE DAYS :
[1] : An e-mail from Mary Lou P. in the USA dated 16 December 2005.
Dear Barend & Trees,
Hi
Dear Barend & Trees,
How great that "It's Only Love" is being played and well received. Gino's humor shines on this tune.
The words and melody in "Venus Envy" make you want to get up and dance the samba.
Wish I had a dance partner!(LOL)
Once again the Master has created something that is new,up to date and very original.
BTW I saw the YellowJackets in concert last Wednesday evening. Great show!
All the best to you this holiday season,
Mary Lou
Hi
"Gino is back, (even though he was never gone) and "These are the days" is an incredible comeback CD to all the other recordings Gino has done for us for so many years". He truly is a Poetic, songwriter, singer, and beautiful soul...... I love him as a friend and a band mate. To be singing backgrounds and playing bass with him is a dream come true, we all work very well together.... as you will see in upcoming concerts, it is fresh , vibrant and we will be rockin the world!
Dear Barend & Trees,
Laura lives near the MOD Club in Toronto.
She is trying to get tickets for the Feb7th show that is SOLD OUT!!
Great to hear the show is SOLD OUT already.
I hope she can secure a ticket or tears will be falling.
LUV LUV LUV the new CD.
Everytime I listen to it I hear and feel something new.
I thought Venus Envy was my favorite until I heard East West World.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a rocking song.
My favorite line is Tom Cats on flat tops sail over the ocean.
Years ago my husband was in the Navy and stationed on an Air Craft
Carrier.
We all wish GINO the best with his new CD.
Looking forward to seeing him in the states later this year.
I am at work and gotta run.
When I get a chance I will write more thoughts.
Take care,
Mary Lou

Hello my friends, Hi Trees, Hi Barend,
I'm sure you already know that your name appears in the last page of the cd
booklet: ?My love and thanks to Barend and Trees?. W-o-w-w-w-w!
So, I'm sure that Gino send you his cd before it was in store (and I am
certain that he asked you the permission to mention your names, did he?).
January 24, I went to the store near my house to buy the cd but they didn't
received it!!! So, I went to another store the day after. Since I listened
to it several times (only the seven new songs) and I was specialy impressed,
once again, by the marvolous voice of Gino. So rich in all notes he sings.
In French, I will say ?Sa voix qui me chavire? but I don't know how to
translate it?
For the moment I think my favorite song is ?These are the days? but my
choice could change tomorrow and tomorrow after...
I'm sure it will be great to hear all these new songs in concert next
Monday. I'll tell you soon!
PS: You could put this e-mail on your website (but please, if you have time
correct my English).
Hello Again B&T,
I received my copy of "These Are The Days" from Amazon up in Canada (along with the electric bill) in the mail this morning. The Canadian election on Monday had no effect on slowing the delivery down, nor did the antics of the US Postal Service (despite their best attempts).
I have to say, without qualification, that this CD is back to the Gino that we all know and love! Now don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-Canto by any stretch of the imagination. Like most of us visiting your great web pages, I appreciate anything that Gino has to offer, irrespective of genre. Canto was a like a side path that you wander down to a pristine lake, enjoy a picnic on a lazy summer day and then return back to the main road to continue your journey. It was a song that needed to be sung and stands on its? own merits.
As we all know, you will never "pin down" Gino as to musical style; he is unafraid to make inroads into any sort of music. For his listeners, it is like Forrest Gump?s box of chocolates, you have to bite into it to find out what it is. I think that it is this element of surprise that is the essence of what attracts us to him musically; the true gist of the Gemini. (No pun intended.) You can see the growth and maturing of the artist as time goes forward.
When I think back on the early Gino albums, there are numerous songs that capture the feeling of being in love: time is irrelevant and it is always a bright sunny day. Trying to "be alone" with Cherizar!
As we approach mid-life, although more stable, we become wary and mock our situation in life, the hypocrisy of society. We are alive by science, as long as the money holds out!
At the current stage, we are trying to offer up life lessons and advise based upon our own experiences. "You don?t need breast implants, you need to work on developing a unique character! Afterwards, you have to have something to talk about (even if it is just golf)!" A mile wide and an inch deep. But, deep in our heart of hearts, we also realize that we didn?t listen either!
In the little booklet that comes with the CD, there is a poem entitled "The Riddle of the River--Thoughts Upon Looking Across The Columbia". I assume that Gino wrote it. Here is my favorite line (parentheses mine):
Crossing the river upon a dreamy weir (a small dam)
Hello my friends,
The 1st three songs are absolutely beautiful !!!
Rock me to heaven is nice but not as great...at least it's what I feel !
Eastwest world is really original and it took me a couple of
listening to really love it !!!
Wonderful ! The great divide is a really another great song and Right
where i am
is really cool !
I am still waiting for a confirmation for Gino !
I will let you know as soon as I have the answer !!!!!!
Bruno
Ps.: And Gino thanks you on the jacket !!!!!
I just ordered "These Are the Days" off Ebay, from a source in Canada, and it came in 3 days! For Americans who want to buy the CD, Ebay is an option. LOVE this CD! The Gino I grew up on is back! Thanks so much for your fabulous website...I check it almost daily for new information?.love the pictures and stories!
I can't stop reading the Riddle of the River!!!!!!!!!!!!! The man is such a genius!! Listening
to The Great Divide. I'm always drawn to his darker songs. (Inconsolable Man) I don't know why,
they always make me cry!!! It's so sad to think that he could have been hurting soooo much inside
and feeling so hopeless. Depression is such an awful thing. Let's hope that he doesn't have to
write anymore of these songs and that he's put all his demons to rest!!!
Listening to Living Inside Myself from new album. My god, his voice!!
"These are the days" is a Masterpiece.
Fabio(from S. Maria Capua Vetere-ITALY)
Hi Trees and Berend--

Happy chinese new year !
Yes, went to Syracuse. First saw him in Toronto around 1974 and have probably seen him live 15-20 times. He is always great however the problem is (its not his fault) he now has too many hits that he has to perform and the shows are becoming a little repetitve. The new album is nice but I am not sure of the quality of the recording. On my system some of the music sounds a little overdriven and distitorted. Have you experienced this?----- Andrew
Hello les amis,
The job is perfect the seven new songs are very different and the seven remastered tracks are incredible they sound great.
It will be a fantastic thing if Gino could supervise the remastering of all his back catalogue and re-release it in a complete box set for exemple.
A very good album very different of 'Canto' and the truth is that Gino astound me again with this new project.
I m impatient to hear in the future the rest of the collection songs (in the shoe box) he had taped.
Hi Trees & Barend,
I'm so glad I did get to see Gino when he was in Syracuse, New York last June. Even though he didn't sing any of the new songs, it was still awesome to see him and once again, I did sit in the front row!!!
Hi Barend and Trees,
Everytime I get a new Gino CD I'm terrified that I'm going to put it on and hate it. (I hold it for a while and pray to God that I'll like it.) And every time I'm so incredibly relieved when I don't hate it! You'd think I'd have learned my lesson by now. Tonight when I put it on and listened for the first time I found myself smiling, and even laughing a couple of times, hearing what he has done with the arrangements and the instruments. And his voice. As we'd say here in the South - My, oh My!!! I should know by now not to be surprised when he surprises me with that voice. It's just amazing. Even on the second and third listening I find myself smiling at the things he does. It makes me wish I'd majored in music in college.
I love the poem he wrote - The Riddle of the River. He has such a way with words, even when they're not lyrics. I vividly remember the first time I read what he wrote about Anton in the notes to - I think it was - Inconsolable Man. It started out "My young son..." and I was in tears by the time I finished. (There was a point in my life, many years ago, when I wanted to be a writer, so I really appreciate it when I read something so beautifully written.).
Oh, and I saw your names in the liner notes!!!!! I think it's great that Gino recognized you for your devotion to him and the enormous amount of time you spend on your/his website.
Gotta go, I'm taping the CD so I can play it in the car. (I know. One day I'll have to give in and spend the money to have the CD player in my car fixed).
Dear Barend & Trees
Dear Barend and Trees
Dear Barend and Trees I really do hope Gino would be able to perform in Florida. That would be a great time to see him a few times or so in a few days or so... :)
Gino's CD is also for sale at CDUniverse.com. It's $22.25 I think.
I bought the latest Melissa Manchester CD at her concert and see that it was engineered by Joe Vannelli. I did mention that to her. Someone had given me a free ticket when I got there to the sold out concert and it was for the third row. Then I met her and handed her CD's and an album to sign and mentioned Joe on the CD and handed her a business card of someone that she and I both know. Hopefully she will call him. It's the "Love Of My Life", Stu Grant a local DJ here in Florida. He can't possibly know that I know that he knows her from when he was much younger and living in NY.
Hi Barend & Trees,
Hi Barend & Trees,
B&T,
Hi there, it's me again,
Hi B&T,
VENUS ENVY !!!!!!! WOW!!! A super smash hit by The Master of Music and Lyrics !!!
Hi B&T
Hi B & T !
Venus Envy...has a way of making you want more. It's one of those
songs you can listen to over and over again. Great beat, great catch
phrase and could be another big hit for GINO if it gets the airplay in
Canada and the U.S.
One of my favorite songs on the CD is Rock me to heaven! I totally
love this tune and think it could be a big hit for GINO. While it
isn't as dramatic as These are the days, it just draws you in and
keeps you humming the tune all day long.
These are the days is a great tune too and has the GINO voice going
for it. His depth as a singer/musician really shines in this tune and
gives the listener the GINO we have heard in the past. East West
world has a great beat, great feel and gets you in the groove.
Another great song and my daughters favorite after It's only love. We
have listened to it many many times and it's definately a favorite. I
can honestly say I enjoy all the songs on this CD. The 2 ballads The
Great Divide and Right Where I Am round out the new songs on the CD.
I like them both but not to the level of Rock me To Heaven. I feel
that should be released as a single to promote the CD. Just my
opinion. I love ALL GINO works of art and enjoy anything new he puts
out. His intensity shifts from song to song. Some songs are deep and
have strong messages that you have to listen for. Others are sraight
forward and in your face. What will the pop fans on this audience
prefer???? That's the Million dollar question. GIno has something to
offer everyone on this CD.
I have enjoyed all the songs on this CD and can't wait until the other
CD's are released. I hope we don't have a hard time getting them in
the States but hopefully by then GINO will be a household name again
and his merchandise will be available everywhere. I am glad the
Canada shows are going well for GINO. Touring again at 53 can't be as
easy as it was in his 20's and 30's but he seems to be doing well.
It's a lot of strain on body and voice but GINO can handle this and
will triumph over any adversaries. I feel HE is in charge of HIS
success. His music can take him where he wants to go but he has to
want to go there totally, without reservations and that is hard to
do. This could be a very big year for GINO VANNELLI! I am looking
forward to a great response once this CD is released to the world!
Again, just my opinion.
Hiya Barend and Trees
I did notice however your names appear on the credits--he says 'Thanks' and sends his love!
All the best to you two, super-Nederlander-Gino fans!
Hi Barend and Trees,
I love the new songs and can't get enough of them. I have a CD player in my car and I am wearing out the CD. I play it on my way to work and on my way home, when I go shopping, etc. I love it!!!! It's a "must have" for any Gino fan.
We are in the midst of getting a snow storm. Hope it blows the other way, but in the meantime, it's just blustery cold and very windy today.
Take care and as always, thank you for all that you do for all the Gino fans in this world.
Hello to you both; The album is wonderful and Gino continues to amaze me with the many beautiful layers he incorporates into each masterpiece he writes. I wish him the best with new album; he's done it again. SUPERB. I hope you are both well and it was very nice to see your names on the album liner. Love Always and take care. The many fans of Gino's appreciate your hard work and dedication more than words could ever say.
Hello les amis,
Hello Barend and Trees!
Gino, I hope you know how much you mean to your fans
and I wish for you much success with "These are the days". My favorite songs on it are "Venus Envy",
These are the days" and "The Great Divide". When Gino hits the high note toward the end of "The Great
Divide" I get misty eyed at the sheer beauty and power of his voice. Gino, you have been my favorite
singer for over 30 years and will continue to be for the rest of my life. I'm hoping very much that your
new songs will receive much airtime and that you win a Grammy for your outstanding talent. I pray
every night for God to watch over you and keep you and your family safe. Thank you again Gino, for the
joy you have given me.
God bless you,
Lydia
Dear Barend & Trees,
"These Are The Days"...Song by Song
"It's Only Love" A GREAT album opener and a solid return in form, from our GINO of yesterday. Very catchy song that makes you wanna move!
"Venus Envy" Another really great and catchy song for 2006. I kept playing it over and over, because everytime I would reach the end of the chorus, I was singing ANOTHER song! "Venus" heavily uses the melody of a non-charting song by Neil Sedaka called "Here We Are Falling In Love Again" from 1976. If you listen to the melody of "Venus" during the line "Why do you wanna be anyone else other than who you are", then listen to Neil Sedaka's song during his line "After all the many heavy falls, why should it feel so good", they are practically identical! I'm sure that Gino wrote that melody, never hearing the Neil Sedaka song, but it's still interesting to note just how similar, they both are!
"These Are The Days" This song could be the best song that Gino has recorded in years. Just simply beautiful to hear!
"Rock Me To Heaven" Another nice song that has some very nice lyrics.
"Eastwest World" The ONLY song that didn't do much for me personally. It seems over-produced and doesn't have a great hook. Hey, they can't all be A+ songs, can they? It's great to read that other fans really enjoy this one. That's what makes us all unique, if we all loved the same thing, how boring would THAT be? It's enough for me, that we all have the love of Gino Vannelli in common!
"The Great Divide" Another of my favorites from this new batch of songs. I like how it has ALL of the characteristics of almost every GREAT Gino song. It starts off softly and slowly, then it builds dramatically to a thunderous and moving ending! BEAUTIFUL!!!
"Right Where I Am" This is also a great song that has the classic slow build from quiet to thunderous. This song, along with "Rock Me To Heaven" seem to be the only songs here that doesn't scream that Gino is fighting everything in his world. (Note to GINO: We "all" struggle everyday to survive this crazy world of ours and try to find out why we are here and where we need to go to have peace within ourselves. Just live and enjoy life, while you're alive and know that you're NOT alone, friend!)
The rest of the new CD speaks for itself, no review needed!
Now to the Valentines Day concert at The Mod Club in Toronto...
Best to you,
Chris Casale (Ohio in the U.S.)
Gino Vannelli --
These Are the Days --
(Universal)
Where has Gino Vannelli been, you ask? Well, the truth is, he's been right where he's always been.
The curly-headed crooner still puts out an album every few years -- it's just that after about 1986, most people stopped paying attention. That's where the uniquely designed These Are the Days comes in.
Equally divided between classic hits and new material, it does double duty, honouring Vannelli's past while attempting to get old fans up to speed on his new material.
First come seven new cuts, which range from the smoothly swinging contemporary jazz of It's Only Love (which makes you wonder if Vannelli has ever heard of Bryan Adams) and Venus Envy to the syrupy pop balladry of Rock Me to Heaven and The Great Divide. Then you get seven refurbished oldies, including Wild Horses, Hurts to be in Love, Just a Motion Away, Black Cars, Living Inside Myself, People Gotta Move and I Just Wanna Stop.
Granted, it's no contest between the first half of this set and the second -- indeed, the back half of These Are the Days only reinforces the belief that Those Were the Days.
But even if his new cuts can't hold a candle to the classics, at least people know where Gino's head is at these days.

Lieve Barend en Trees,
ps...jammer he dat wij niet in Canada wonen! Al die concerten...zucht!
Engels/English: An e-mail from Kerstin in the Netherlands dated 20 February 2006.
Dear Barend and Trees,
ps...It's a pity isn't it that we do not live in Canada! All those concerts...sigh!
Hoi Trees en Barend,
Engels/English: A second e-mail from Kerstin in the Netherlands dated 21 February 2006.
Hi Trees and Barend,
Even after all these years, Gino is brilliant !
I have been a fan of Gino's since my teens.
PURCHASED GINO'S NEW CD AND HAVE TO SHARE MY ENTHUSIASM!!!
Love "These are the Days" especially The Great Divide.
Hi, I received Gino's new cd too and I am so happy. What a great day to hear all those new Gino Vannelli songs and thank God and Barend and Trees for your e-mail with the link to Amazon.ca in Canada. What should we do without the internet ??? We lost Gino Vannelli for many years because we never received or heard news and now we found him again... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE "These Are The Days" and "Rock Me To Heaven" but like you all say and write tomorrow I will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE another Gino Vannelli song.
Thanks from Miranda.
Hi B&T! The website looks great, keep up the good work! Gail
Hope you're having a good weekend!!!! Busy with the Master's work, I'm sure. I see they have
Gino's album on the HOME music page now for Amazon.ca for new music under "Canadian" artists.
They also took Barry Manilow's CD off of Gino's page. I don't know if it is a result of my nasty
email about Gino and that other guy not being even remotely similiar artists or that people who
shop for GINO"S MUSIC WOULD ACTUALLY LISTEN LET ALONE BUY BARRY MANILOW"S MUSIC!!!!! HUH!!!!
That was the most ridiculous thing I ever heard!!!! I let them know
too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least it worked!
Let me know what's happening Trees! Besides in Ginoland!
Terry S.
the cd is great...i can't stop listening to it...my wife and kids are getting a little tired of me playing it and sharing my gino concert stories with them.
favourite songs on the disk 1,2, 4, 6
And yes, I have These Are The days, What a Great album!!!! Gino is back, and it's so good getting to hear him play his instruments!! I really love the cd, it just astounds me how his writing just keeps improving with time. I just wish he could get some promotion for this one. I really think Rock Me To Heaven, and The Great Divide are both top ten hits! And I love the title track plus every song on it!!! I just wish you 2 were going to be there, I would love to meet both of you. Keep up the GREAT and hard work! I guess it's a labor of love, huh? Thanks for the congrats, I really CANNOT wait. Talk to you later, Robert.
How did I like Gino's new CD? I would have prefered all new songs but his
vocals are better than ever !! I would like to hear him sing 'crooners'
songs... it would be fantastic !!
Ciao!
Gina
Hi Guys,
I have been a fan of his since my teens when I heard him sing "Wheels of Life." I bought his new CD "These Are The Days" and I totally love it. I also heard some clips from Canto and I just love it as well. I am a singer as well--I JUST LOVE TO SING--so when I heard clips of these songs like Canto, Una Parole Di Mio Padre, and Una Sola Voce; I was touched by the lush grandioso of the orchestra and his voice. I need to hear the rest of this CD.
It also proves that Gino still has appreciation and love for music. My dad is from Italy and I grew up listening to artists such as Claudio Villa, Aldo Rossi, Xavier Cugat and Mirielle Matthieu. So I really appreciate the classics as well as pop and jazz.
I am not sure if you actually hear from Gino, but if you do, tell him to keep on doing what he is doing as long as he can and please come to Winnipeg.
Thanks for your time.
Norina
Today (March 8th) I just purchased his new CD. Now I know what all the hype is about.
I keep listening to "These Are The Days" over and over again. The man is certainly a genius and the Master of music undoubtedly. His music has a touch like an angel's wings brushing against a person's pains and sorrows. It lifts a person to heights of gladness and joy brought about by Gino's giving each fan a delicious taste of his genius. I wish him continued success, health, happiness and I pray he will be creating beautiful music for many more years to come. My wishes to you both as well that you are well. Love Sharon XXXX OOOO
What a treat! the New album is phenomenal both my husband and I listen to it all of the time. We love the whole album, especially, the way the album was produced combining the new with the vintage! We are also very happy to hear the songs are played regularly on Montreal Q92, finally getting the airtime Gino & his fans deserve. The words expressed in the songs are so vivid and soulful. We had the pleasure once again to see Gino this time in an outdoor concert during Canada Day 05 in Ville LaSalle, Quebec even during the horrific thunder storm Gino's loyal fans did not budge "we were not going to miss a beat even if we were strucked by lightening!!!" This was another true testament to how much Gino is loved by all walks of life. Then another treat - the Quebec Tour - we would have gone to every single one of them. Funny enough we even met the same fans from concert to concert - we all said the same thing "If Gino was to sing the yellow pages we would still be in aw!!!" Gino's voice is like no other and thru all these years his voice is still the same. Like many other fans, Gino is the one I listened to when I am sad, melancholic, happy whatever the mood - his voice just resonates pleasure.
Hi Barend and Trees,
Just nice he's gone back to the pop/rock side of the music style.
These are the days is one of his best songs in many years.
It's also got the 70's Gino feel to it.
B&T
Dear Barend & Trees,
I don't understand the record industry. I know, nobody does!
Why would Gino Vannelli release his new album as an import (Canada) and
not
in the U.S.? I can order the album online (I already have), but I'm just
wondering. Seems like he would get some airtime on U.S. radio stations if
the album was released here. Is Gino contractually prohibited from
releasing albums in the U.S.?
Also, is VIE Records the record label Gino created back in the early 90's?
Finally, why was Gino's first album (Crazy Life) never released on CD?
Thank you in advance for your response.
John...
Great album indeed, you can feel the arrangements are fresh and with a taste of funky-jazz and somewhat intrigiung ethnic (eastwest world). Gino and Rok Golob really did a great job!!! My only regret is that the old songs are original and not redone. Probably he had to choose the company's advice.
Hopefully this CD will go up in the POP ranks...
Will send you pictures of our Baby, he will be the youngest Gino fan for sure!!!!!
Have a great weekend too..and thanks for keep on doing what you do creating the biggest Gino's community in the world....saw your names in the credits...must have been a great reward huh??
Hi B&T
"It's Only Love" I really like this song. Real jazzy. When this song plays on the radio station that I listen to in Canada (102.3 Clear FM), I pump up the volume and sing along. I even like the "Yeah" at the end of the song. But since I know that Gino sings what he feels and puts his heart out, I hope that this has not happened to him. Or perhaps he is speaking from experience. If this has happened to him, I feel very sorry for him.
"Venus Envy" Since I love Latin music, I like the Latin sound in this. This song really speaks to me because the pressure is there to look like a Venus-type woman, but I'm not. I would never resort to plastic surgery to change anything about me. People who do that do not have a good or even any self-esteem. Unfortunately it is society's perception of what a woman (or man) should look like is way out of proportion. I am glad Gino had his say about this.
"These Are The Days" This song makes you look at yourself, take stock per say. I am close to middle-age now and this song says it right. Wars that we fight and tears that we shed. This song makes you think and if that is what Gino wants us to do--he has been successful in doing so.
"Rock Me To Heaven" This song says "I Love You" It says to appreciate your spouse/partner in what he/she does for you. Good song to dance to.
"EastWest World" The melding of two cultures. I really like the woman speaking in her language. The gypsy beat is enticing and makes me want to dance.
"The Great Divide" What a sad song. It makes me cry. I sometimes wonder what my husband is thinking, too. There are times when he goes into his "cave" (our son's room) and closes the door and reads. When I ask him what's wrong. He just says 'nothing.' But I know that there is. I feel really guilty that I have done or said something wrong to him and he is not talking to me about it. Maybe it has nothing to do with me, perhaps it's work related. This song really reaches out and says TALK. I'm wondering if Gino experiences this as well.
"Right Where I Am" Beautiful guitar at the beginning. I think Gino is saying that he is happy with his life at this time and to move forward. It also says that he has some regrets and has put them and left them in the past.
What can I say about the old tunes. I still enjoy them all. Gino must have had a hard time picking out the 7 songs to add. There was one song I hoped that it would be on the CD. That is Wheels of Life. That is the first song I heard from Gino back when I was 15 years old. I saw Gino for the first time on CBC television singing this song and I was star-struck. My jaw dropped asking myself who is this hunky dude. WOW!
Perhaps Gino could put that one on his next CD.
I also noticed something else about the cover of the CD. The way his last name is placed as:
VANN
This is the way that he pseudo name was spelled when he first came out as an artist. Very interesting!
Gino if you do read this, I would very much like to see you in concert in Winnipeg. You do have many fans in this City. The last time you were here in, I believe, 1991 or 1992, you were at the Le Rendez-Vous in Winnipeg. I didn't get to see you then, which I am so sorry for. Le Rendez-Vous is being demolished in the near future to make room for a new housing. But there are other venues. About 10 years ago, the Italian community in Winnipeg built an Italian Cultural Centre, which has a theatre setting. There is also Le Foyer Jazz.
OK B&T I have taken too much of your time. I have to go now to practice my singing voice exercises.
Dear B&T,
Hi guys,
Hi Their!,
Gino, thank you for your music, it makes me smile, and I appreciate that. From my family to you and yours, we hope the best for you, and please come to Arizona soon!! Thank you Barrend and Trees for all you do here, your awesome! Thomas.
OH! My Friends, I'm in the Heaven.
Realy he is the Master of Music! and you make me the woman more happy in all the world. It is the Best Gift ! Thank you Very Very Much.
If you need something of Chile, only write me, OK.
Greetings for you!
Hi,
Great to read from you.
The remix of old songs is very interesting too and I am discovering some instrument that were not that present in the 70?s mixes.
In conclusion, it is a great album.
Hallo luitjes,
Groeten & keep up the good work.
Engels/English: An e-mail from Lilian in Zoetermeer,Holland, the Netherlands dated 30 March 2006.
Hi folks,
Greetings & keep up the good work.
Hi Barend & Trees...It's good to hear from you...I've checked out the site everyday...I wish I could go to one of the concerts but right now they are a little to far away...I'm hoping by the late spring he will have a concert closer to where I live...It's so funny that you e-mailed me because I was just thinking about you both...It's been a while since I wrote you...I just love GINO'S new CD...I had gotten an advance copy at Brock...Only thing was I couldn't play it on my computer....I have the original now....I know the CD is doing well in Canada..I'm very happy for him...You've done a great job on the web-site....I congradulate you both for also being mentioned on the CD...That is so great....Take care and GOD BLESS you both........
Hi Barend & Trees Verwaal
Just wanted to let you know that I was at Bossa Nova last evening. It is owned by Robin Fernandez, the previous owner of Rosebud where Gino performed in 1999. I knew I would be seeing him, so I bought a copy of "It's Only Love" for him. He dowloaded it to his music system in the club and played it. ALL NIGHT PEOPLE WERE ASKING "WHO'S MUSIC IS THAT?" We also racked our old brains trying to remember dates of two sold out shows of Gino's that we saw at the Stanley and Syria Mosque, "back in the day." We promised to look through "all that old stuff" and see if we can come up with stubs, whatever.
p.s. Robin's favorite album is Storm at Sunup.

Lucio,
Dear Barend & Trees,
I've had These Are The Days for about 3 wks now. The only way to describe it is Truely a Masterpiece!! My three favorite song are These Are The Days, Rock Me To Heaven, and The Great Divide. I think that Rock Me and Divide are both top ten hits. I also Love East West World. That song really moves. It's so cool how he put in that sort of
Egyptian sounding melody. Not to mention Venus Envy! This album just blows my mind, it's just amazing how his writing tens to evolve with time and age. I think The Great Divide might be THE most beautilful song he has ever written!!
Anyway, this cd is a journey into Gino's song writing ability. He never ceases to amaze me with his music. I just pray that he does several songs from the new album at The HOB in Chicago!!! I still can't believe my brother are going to see him again!! The last time was 99 in Austin. 7 long yrs without a Live Gino Concert. Keep the emails coming. Good talking to you. Love, Robert in Fort Worth.
Dear Barend & Trees,
Barend and Trees,
We are truly amazed at the depth of his music and the attention to detail he continues to deliver. We are truly blessed to have such talent, continuing to give us such quality in his performances.
Thank you,
Dear Barend and Trees,
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! I do like Gino's new CD very much!
"EastWest World" "Venus Envy" they are fantastic.
In the meantime, have a super super weekend, and will always be stopping by to see what is up with you and your amazing web page.
My deepest thanks and appreciation......... Robert.
Dear Barend & Trees,
Hi,
Here you are my opinion:
"I am a great Gino Vannelli's fan. I have all his
records (including Crazy Life). And he is really my
favourite musician and singer.
I àì sorry but I must confess that this album is NOT
Gino Vannelli. I am really disappointed in it. It
sounds just like Black Cars or Big Dreamers (but I
don't like them). Very far from the real Gino.
I like very much all of the A&M albums, NIGHTWALKER,
YONDER TREE and CANTO.
I have read lately, that Gino didn't like the song
'Even the Nights are Better'. OK, but in the new album
every song is weaker than Even the Nights are better.
I saw Gino alive in Tivoli, Copenhagen in 2005 and he
was great, playing with more than 40 pieces band. A
great sound and presence! Incredible!!!
So, that's why this new CD is a real shame. Just an
average record. Only the voice is Gino. Thanks God for
that."
Regards
Gino's new CD
Venus envy is clearly a statement. It swings, and it's my husbands
favorite song. Guess he doesn't like plastic surgery either!. The more I
play the CD, the more I love the song. But that's usually the case with
Gino's music.
My ears need to work a little more on the title song. I like it, but
don't love it. For me it misses the spark that I find in most of Gino's
songs.
Rock me to heaven is another wonderful songs. Smooth and tender. It's
almost a lullaby .
Eastwest world is another of Gino's "Gypsy" songs, as I call them. He
seems to like adding one of these spunky funky ones on most of his
albums. The vision of Spanish women dancing and flirting comes to mind
when I listen to this song.
The great divide is a beautiful song. I imagine most soft hearted
female fans shedding lots of tears. I must belong to the tougher kind,
although I really love the song. I can just imagine all those fans
singing along on April 8th..
Right where I am: Just a nice song. Nothing fancy about it. And as for
the rest of the album: Well , weren't those the days?? We all love the
old songs, so no need to elaborate.
Another great album from Gino. Hope to hear him sing some of his new
songs on April 8 in Detroit..
See yeh guys..
I got the new Gino CD for my birthday a couple of weeks ago and could hardly wait to listen to it. Gino's voice sounds fantastic and the seven new songs were all very different, and very memorable. In fact, I found myself singing "why do you want to be Venus" the next day after having listened to the CD only once. Since you asked for honest review, I have to say that I was a bit surprised and somewhat disappointed that the old songs included on the CD were not even remixed or re-done in any way. I didn't know the CD was originally meant to be a greatest hits, I guess.
Thank you both, In my excitement after listening "These are the Days", I had to write you again to tell you how fantastic I think the new CD is! It's a masterpiece, I love it! Thank you! Tom
Dear friends
March 30, 2006
Gino Vannelli, is one of the greatest musicians and most intriguing artists of our time. Part philosopher, musician, composer and poet, he brings these talents together in his music. He is a perfectionist, breaking all the rules to journey to the heart and soul of a musical inspiration.
He has broken away from the stereotypical role of sex symbol in the 1970's to journey into the realm of jazz and classical music. Combining these arts with pop and rock, along with his own spiritual findings he has created a sound that is truly his own. The result of practicing his art is nearly three decades of some of the most beautifully crafted music one could ever hear. The music he writes and performs is truly inspiring. By pouring his heart and soul into his music, Gino has created works of incredible style and perfection.
Seven of Gino's timeless classics are included on his new album, "These Are The Days," alongside seven new pop hits in the making. In 2006 Gino remains one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary pop music with his return to pop on this album.

I have spent the last 5 weeks listening to the new CD non stop so I will know every word when my wife and I see him April 8th in Detroit.
I rate every song a 10 with the exception of "Eastwest World" which only falls to an 8.
The voices backing him on "The Great Divide" are fantastic. I have all of Gino's disc and this is the best new stuff since Nightwalker. Any plans for a video for "It's Only Love" or "Venus Envy"? VH1 has a new show called classic/current- perhaps they could show his new video with Nighwalker or Living Inside Myself.
One last thing...are their any record store signings in Detroit? Any pre concert functions for us Gino manics?

These Are The Days
Wonderful album!
I will now order a new Gino CD through Amazon.com and will not go through a
different source. I do like Gino's new CD very much, from what I can
remember. I thoroughly enjoy everything he does. His talent is beyond that
of so many other musicians, who can't hold a candle to Gino. I've been
listening to Gino since 1979. My sister got me hooked on him. I have
enjoyed listening to all of the changes Gino has made in his career. He
truly is phenomenal. His voice is superb, his lyrics are thought provoking
and he often says the things a woman wants to hear. I am always eager to
hear what he will do next.

Barend and Trees,
Thank you for the tip about ordering Inconsolable Man from the website. I
will do so today. I have been unable to find Big Dreamers Never Sleep. Can
you recommend a good Dutch website? PS: I was in Zurich last week and on my day off, I searched several used record stores for Gino's music. I am trying to find Crazy Life on CD. Nothing yet, but I will keep trying. PPS: I agree with your assessment of Live in Montreal, the quality of the sound is excellent. My absolute favorite is the live version of "Where am I Going." Hello B&T! I thought that I knew what I can expect from Gino – great songs, lush arrangements, wonderful singing… But, these new songs really surprised me. All of them are so good!!! I liked both ballads and faster songs, and I was so amazed to hear how good his voice still is. But, good voice without good song means nothing. So, these new songs are really strange – he succeed to mix up old stiles with some newer ‘tricks’, and also I must admit that he really took care about all details, arrangements, rhythms, backing vocals (that are also amazing). I also liked lyrics and I must say that he proved that man can have fresh ideas though he spent so many years ‘on the stage’. I don’t try to say that he is old – he sounds fresher and younger than lots of new singers. Apart from that, he is not just a singer (good singer). He is also a wide and powerful musician and composer and he really deserves much more attention than that he had it at this moment. If this album doesn’t take high place on pop CD charts it will be firm proof that all music industry has gone to hell. All these exalted words are not here just because I am trying to be kind – I REALLY MEAN IT! In my life as musician I’ve heard many albums and even more many songs, some of them were bad, some were good, but just few of them were such good collection of great pop songs. I don’t talk here about hits. Hit is something that is paid by producers and record companies; it is ‘merchandise’ that is selling over the MTV and similar stations. Now ‘youth terror’ is stronger than anytime before, if you have more than 25 you’ll have a big problem to promote your music (except if you’re Madonna or Sting). I won’t talk like some geezer but really it is now such a pain to be successful if you’re not very young. And I don’t talk just about music… So, dear friends, I must say a big THANKS to you ‘cause you sent to me such a great gift. It really brought a smile into our home (Vlada said “hey, this man is really good!” which is probably the highest compliment he’d give about someone’s singing).
Thanks for this great gift (I am listening it almost every day, and it cannot bore me which is proof that this album is EXTRAORDINARY) and for your care about me and my family. And yes, my Vlada is very sparing if we talk about singing compliments. No, he is not vain and he doesn’t think that he is some good singer, but it seems that he doesn’t like to give compliments about it, I don’t know why.
Bye, my friends…
I am very tired so I have to go now… Thanks again! [109] : An e-mail from Mick Baker, in the U.K. dated 12 May 2006. Subject : new album
Hi,Barend&Trees. [110] : An e-mail from Claude, in Canada dated 15 May 2006. Subject : THIS CD IS AMAZING!
I LOVE THIS CD!!!!! Amazing music, even more amazing voice!!!!!!!!! [111] : A letter by "normal" mail from Heather Lynn in Canada dated 21 February 2006. We typed over this letter in two parts and left out the personal stuff. Part 1 is on the Gino Vannelli short stories web page number 157 and part 2 is here... Subject : Gino Vannelli
THESE ARE THE DAYS : I know a lot of his writing has come from his life experiences and he has helped me through a difficult time of depression specifically with Yonder Tree. When I played it for my partner in the car they noticed it right off that Gino's voice is behind the music instead of being a powerful force within the music. I was surprised with this production. It didn't have that Gino & Joe ultimate excellence. Gino seems hidden behind the music & the music is too overpowering. The words, humor, & creativity are there. This must be the only Gino album I've honestly not given A+ to. Everyone has his or her own opinion & when you really love an artist it is difficult to give critic to his work.
The re-mixes of the second half of the album of his seven previous songs are very well done. I really like Venus Envy, & Rock Me To Heaven. Venus Envy is his humor about plastic surgery. Rock Me To Heaven make me appreciate my life partner. [112] : An e-mail from Paul Harris in South Africa dated 3 June 2006. Subject : Gino
Hi Barend and Trees,
I am on the look out for his European tour dates as I am going to do whatever it takes to get to see him live again (I saw him in London in 1992). [113] : An e-mail from Gary Devoid in New England, North Dakota dated 19 July 2006. Subject : Gino info
dear gino, [114] : An e-mail from An in Edmonton, Canada dated 25 July 2006. Subject : Gino and these are the days
Dear Gino, [115] : A message found on the world wide web inside some kind of a forum on 3 January 2007. Subject : BTW, he (Gino Vannelli) has a new one out. Like an amazing wine, some things just age with grace and impeccable class and such is the case with Gino Vannelli. This time around, the Canadian offers up seven new compositions that are natural extensions of where he left off in 1998's Slow Love. The seven new songs are focused but relaxed, with his aim clearly at the die hard fans of his trademark adult-contemporary/jazz hybrid. But it's the seven tracks that make up the second half of "These Are The Days" that are a real treat. Digitally remastered for amazing clarity, Vannelli personally oversaw the reconstruction of seven of his most well known tunes, including the US chart hits "I Just Wanna Stop" and "Living Inside Myself". The results are crisp and bright when compared to some of the greatest hits compilations recently issued, and makes this a must have for Vannelli enthusiasts, even if you've already purchased a "best of" compilation recently. I played the sample of one of those songs and my brain almost exploded. These Are The Days... [116] : An e-mail from Chris in Bradford, Pennsylvania, USA dated 2 March 2007. Subject : My thoughts on Gino's music
Hey B&T, "It's Only Love" - a catchy, awesomely fun number with irresistible drum patterns. "Venus Envy" - an awesomely fun number with incredible rhythms with a simple message "Be yourself and don't try to look like ultra-thin models and celebs" The title track - musical excellence with lyrical brilliance "Rock Me To Heaven" - one of the most beautiful ballads I've ever heard in my life and THE best I've heard all year "East West World" - another incredibly arranged spark of magic "The Great Divide" - Great ballad with awesome arrangement about love gone wrong and the lack of communication between two people "Right Where I Am" - a pretty piece about love, contentment and finding your inner-peace.
I wanted to e-mail my thoughts and hope you have a wonderful day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [117] : An e-mail from Robert S. in the USA dated 28 March 2007. Subject : Gino Vannelli albums Myself, being an American of Italian ancestry, I thought the album Canto was a work of absolute genius that showed the world the heights that Gino can soar. I also love These Are The Days very much with one glaring exception. Although the first seven new songs are brilliant (I've listened to the CD about three dozen times), I was disappointed that instead of writing just a few more new pieces and creating an entirely new album, old material was added. Despite this fact, it's still a great CD that has brought Gino back to his roots and made me feel young again. There has never been a Gino album that I did not like which is why I'm such a steadfast fan. What pisses me off BIG TIME is the total lack of respect he has is the US. When I first heard Yonder Tree, I realized that I had listened to one of the most important pure Jazz albums ever written and a sure Grammy nominee BUT, no way! Then again, look at the Pop or Rap crap that continuously wins. The US fans are here, trust me! It's the damned industry. Robert

Hello Barend and Trees A quote from Jazziz Magazine March 07. post it/ use it if desired, or toss: “Gino Vannelli - These are the Days - Only Vannelli could begin a song with a jazzy Vince Guaraldi jingle then croon about the realities of plastic surgery - all clinched with an infectious radio-ready hook. The package also includes a handful of old hits such as “I Just Wanna Stop” and Living inside Myself” -Michael Fagien-
Best to you both my friends in the Netherlands
