Gino Vannelli's CANTO :
a CD review in the AD Algemeen Dagblad, Holland dated Saterday
21 June 2003, page 31 :

CD tip of the week :

GINO VANNELLI *** POP
From the frontside of His new cd he looks very sultry into the world. Still the Ladykiller with whom pop music was introduced half the 70's. The Canadian with Italian blood goes back to His roots with CANTO. He shows Himself from His most romantic side in 11 heavy accentuated ballads, of which He sings most in Italian. And Gino Vannelli can still sing very well like a few others. In the middle of all warm women and the undergoings of the suns DEA SPERANZA a song written about the 11 September attacks is a curious by-blow.....

Canto

AAA (very good)

In the 1970's artist like Gary Wright and Gino Vannelli
made great efforts to break through the hegemony of the
electric guitar. They put the synthesizer up front as
equell and even soul- saving instrument.
Halfway the in 1977 released album A Paper In Paradise
the incurable romantic burst of feelings of Vannelli
were accompanied by The Royal Symphony Orchestra and
you could consider Canto as a full-blooded continuation
of that careful not quiet understood experiment.
Because the Italian from Montreal brings on this album
together with the Northwest Orchestral Assembly
a collection of operesk songs.
He sings them in English, Spanish, French and even
Italian and all that with an incredeble voice.
Sure, it takes a little "to get used to" espessially
if the slightly dominant soprano Janet Chvatal
gets in the picture.
But afterwards you can't help thinking,
What would a duet from the pearlfishers opera
sound like if Gino Vannelli and Andrea Bocelli
would take care of that?
I think very, very beautifull, yes !
