Exactly 1 year ago Gino performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Together with the Metropole Orchestra He grabbed into the musical magic-box of His extensive and enormous repertoire. It was a very big difference with the Gino Vannelli of the 70's, who at that time seduced the gay scene and many women with His open shirt and naked tummy button, tight pants and His extreme curly bunch of deep dark hair! Many fell for Him on the spot like a block. Last year at the North Sea Jazz the time of the hits "People Gotta Move" and "Powerful People" was far behind Him. He let us hear the jazzy arrangements of his latest work.

And now a year later Gino Vannelli surprises again in a BIG way. On "Canto" He goes on the classical tour. On Canto are His 11 own compositions, He sings in Italian, Spanish and French and a few songs in English. Cynics could use for sure the same arguments which they used before about Gino Vannelli's music : Too much grandiloquence and rant. And just like than or just like before
THEY ARE WRONG AGAIN ! Singers like Andrea Bocelli and Alessandro Safina shall not feel ashamed to sing this repertoire. And Gino Vannelli who sounds more classical than ever does not have to be ashamed for His voice !!! TvR, Haagsche courant July 2003.
