Grand-Prix weekend of the formula 1
This bal is an annual event given in the context of Montreal's Formula One Grand Prix. Gino Vannelli opened for Tony Bennett and, sang songs from "Canto" and earlier hits. Ticket prices were very high (more than a thousand $ canadian) because the event is actually a fund-raiser for charities. A very chic affair, local celebs were in attendance and international stars too: Prince Andrew (well, one of the Royal Brits - sorry I forget !)
Angelina Jolie… Etc. The medias did not show images of GV in rehearsal or concert but they did film while Bennett was on stage, and we could see and appreciate the art design of the "concert" room, actually some sort of conference salon transformed into a jazzy entertainment hall. The event was held inside historical Windsor train station in downtown MTL. The room was decorated to emulate the look and atmosphere of 1940's clubs with a high ceiling, silk draperies hanging from columns, small tables where people eat and drink while listening to the show. Actually, had I been there, I'm sure it would have upset me to see people NOT paying close attention to the performances, which is what was happening during Bennett's set. Amazing ;-( Was the crowd more respectful during GV's segment ???
