Thursday evening the 9th November 2000, we went to a Mike Stern live concert because Chris Minh Doky is the Bass-player of the Mike Stern Band in this tour.
We enjoyed the music and have much respect for these 4 Musicians, we did not know this music but these 4 Musicians played with their hearts too.
Chris had a lot of troubles with His bass equipment the first part of the concert but the second part the problems were solved. And he looked much more happier and WOW !!! They had fun playing this music !!! He told us after the concert that it was not His own equipment and something was wrong.
The audience knew this music and were very enthousiastic, so we thought it were all people with knowledge about Mike Stern and His music!!!
Chris Minh Doky recognized us and said : " Hey hello my Gino friends"!! And He hugged us !!!
WOW !!! We are so honoured !! He recognized us after almost 4 years in Denmark.
Chris Minh Doky can play His bass so intense and so incredible excellent, he is a real Young Master !!! And we can recognize his sound above all sounds.
After the concert Chris talked for a while with us and he told us that this tour is rough and he was pretty tired.
Anyways we enjoyed this evening of unknown music and we drove home with a good feeling and a smile on our faces. Again a lesson in music which is new music to us !!!! |
We continue with GINO VANNELLI's work with the Doky Brothers :

TENDER LIES
Music : Niels Lan Doky
Lyrics: GINO VANNELLI
*************************
You whisper words I long to hear
A lush embrace to chase away my fears
You vow to never let me go
As you kiss me slow
You do me right all night through
To silence what suspicious I have of you
You tell me true love never dies
That I'm a fool to agonize
You swear there could be no one else
That I have you all to myself
Quick, before I open my eyes
Do tell me
One more of your tender lies
SOLO
You say you hunger for my touch
That you love me much too much You claim the best is yet to come
That I'll always be the only one
Quick, before I open my eyes
Please tell me
One more of your tender lies
Please, one more lie.

A LETTER FROM A FAN : ..... | Hi Barend & Trees,
You are so right. Chris is as sweet and wonderful as his father was. We
went to Toledo, got there early, went to a great (Dominic's) restaurant and
had some wonderful Italian food. Dominic's has pictures of all these
famous people that have ever been there (they say there are 357 pictures).
I looked but didn't see GINO - ha.
Anyway, it turns out the first part of the show was just the orchestra and
the conductor. It was good but we were disappointed waiting to see Chris.
So at intermission I went up toward the stage and finally saw Chris walk
out. I waved like crazy and he saw me and waved back. He probably thought
I was a crazy person and he went backstage and didn't come out till the
show was starting again. The show was wonderful. David Sanborn plays a
great saxophone and Chris was wonderful to watch.
So, afterward I went up toward the front of the stage (fought the crowd to
get there as they were all trying to leave in the other direction). I
just missed Chris walking off with his stand-up bass. But I got the
attention of Mr Sanborn's musical director and asked him to ask Chris to
sign my cds. He took backstage with him to find Chris both my cds and a
Sanne Saomonsen cd single that Chris produced, arranged, and played on, and
also the postcard of Chris you had sent me. Chris then came out with my
stuff and said sure he would sign them all. I told him you sent your love.
He said right back to you. I told him we drove from Detroit. He said they
drove 12 hours to get there and we're leaving right then on the bus to
drive back to New York.
He was so nice and kind to sign all my stuff. He was very sweet to my
sister and me (even with me all excited). I didn't let him say much - you
know how I am. I was talking 90 miles an hour as not to hold him up too
long. I'm terrible that way.
We said our goodbyes. I told him the show was wonderful and I was so happy
to finally meet him. He thanked us for driving to see him - wow!
Thanks again for sending me that wonderful postcard. It's even sweeter
now with Chris's autograph to me on it.
Oh, one bad thing. My sister forgot to bring her camera so I didn't get a
picture with Chris. And wow is he handsome. I had no idea he was that
good looking in person. And with that beautiful face he has the same smile
and sparkle in his eyes as that other wonderful humble decent musician we
know and love - GINO Vannelli.
love & stuff,
Deborah
