Don Giovanni dated 28 May 2003. It's now 4 days that I got the cd, and can't stop listening to it, at least 20 times till now! As an old fan of Gino, I can tell you my first feelings were a bit mix. Sincerely, I was more expecting something closed to the kind of music performed with the 2 big of Uzeb, jazzy and punchy. Not at all, the complete contrary, quite no drum on it. But at the end there's something strange and mysterious in this album that I can't really define yet. It reminds me for sure "Pauper in Paradise" in a certain way, but I think it is also an incredible mix of the past 20 years of Gino's music. The voice is for sure the best I ever heard from Gino himself and any Pseudo-Opera like..."Bravo" for the his courage of singing in Italian and French also, two languages I know he's not familiar with. But Italian is for sure the language of the opera and also I guess a small recall of his origin and father. French, a language from Montreal, native place, and also the one of Ravel and Debussy, two big musical references for Gino. As a perfectionist like Gino "Perfectionist has no life", I just wanted to inform you, that unfortunately, some italian translations are wrong, I imagine probably coming from the automatic correction from "Word" (thank you Bill Gates). It would be nice if you can inform the record company about those mistakes. On "Canto" song there are also something missing words "Apro gli occhi e cosi vedo". To sum up, "Canto" is a real "Opera d'arte"/"Chef d'oeuvre", I love this album and will enjoy it for long. I take also the opportunity to wish all my best to Gino and happy birthday. Gino is my musical power light in an otherwise cloudy world of hazy sunlight. Also, to my eternal gratitude, my new found friend taped the album for me.
This was a gesture which I have never forgotten,and to quote,'Of all the bars & gin joints in the World, I walked into this one'.
This LP was very hard to find at the time and it was yet another thrilling revelation on hearing the music - as are all Gino's offerings.
I am now the proud owner of two copies of this rare prize and it sounds just as good now as it did all those years ago.
Gino my friend, you never cease to amaze me with your uncanny musical abilities, and now we have 'Canto'. What can I say that will come close to the feelings and emotions this work of art invokes? Only that you have yet again restored my faith in the power of music to move, energise and invigorate the soul in this sometimes souless World. A PAUPER IN PARADISE ( une pure merveille) j'aime beaucoup toute la face musicale et aussi, la chanson THE SUREST THINGS CAN CHANGE. BROTHER TO BROTHER ( gandiose ), j'aime beaucoup la chanson PEOPLE I BELONG TO. NIGHTWALKER et LIVE IN MONTREAL ( très bien ). YONDER TREE ( sublime, magnifique, parfait ) . SLOW LOVE ( profond ) et CANTO ( magnifique )sont les albums que je prèfère. Je connais aussi trè bien BLACK CARS et BIG DREAMERS NEVER SLEEP mais, j'aime moins ce style. INCONSOLABLE MAN était un album qui pour moi, se rapprochait peu à peu du style de tes premiers albums. Sinon, ma chanson préférée parmi tous tes albums est " OMENS OF LOVE " ( très troublante comme chanson et, très bien construite : l'émotion augmente de plus en plus tout au long de la chanson, je sais pas si tu arrives bien à comprendre ce que je veux exprimer en disant cela ). Après toutes ces bonnes paroles, je reviens au sujet principal qui est ton anniversaire : je trouve que tu es bien conservé pour ton âge (je ne sais pas si je serais aussi bien que toi dans quelques années !!! grande question ) et surtout, je te félicites pour ta silouhette : toujours aussi mince au fil des années !!!

Listening to the old and new Italian music my Father would play. And the San Remo album covers with the whip cream. Or was that one of Herb Alpert‘s? Although my Parents tried not to talk too much Italian so that my Father would learn English, we always knew when they were talking about us (my sisters, brother and I). To this day it brings a smile and happy tears to my face as I remember my Father saying cabbage (we had a delicatessen) when he was actually saying garbage! And vice versa. Hearing the familiar words in the songs you have written also brings tears to my eyes now as I write this and as I have been listening to Canto. When I heard the word Vita, I knew the meaning of the word is "life." My Father was from a town in Italy, called Vita. Or when you sang Aspetami, I could hear and remember my Mother saying a portion of this word, wait, quite often. She was probably cooking dinner, and the odors coming out of the kitchen…..she was a fantastic cook. I am sure if my Parents were here today, they would understand the reason why your music, lyrics and producing mean so much to me. They would have enjoyed Canto just about as much as I am. I am not the type to be a groupie or some wildly screaming, fan, but lo those many years ago when I was visiting relatives near Windsor, Ontario and heard "Love of My Life" played on then-CKLW I have been just in love with this man, that voice, this immense and brilliantly talented composer. I have been to three of his concerts, two at Cobo Hall in Detroit, and one in a small venue in Pontiac, Michigan, where I stood just feet from him, looking up at him, where he powered the stage as he always has. I couldn't speak. My love for him endures. His last two records have been like delicious treasures to me. My husband, Alvin B. Waddles III, a man of beautiful wild wavy black hair, of head and chest, is a wildly talented musician/pianist {actually, he is presently the musical director for the "Three Mo' Tenors" (not bad, eh?)} was born on June 15th. I have always believed that it was no coincidence that he and Gino's birt hday's are only a day apart. Gemini must be the most delicious zodiac sign in the cosmos. In any case, ahem, to my inspiration (my mother used to make me sing "The Wheels of Life" for her freinds in our living room and as a singer myself (though professionally a lawyer) I serously know that the power in my voice, even my vibrato, comes from the almost formal training I gleaned and absorbed from singing along with Gino in my room for hours as a teen...) my hero, my beacon of musical passionista, I say thank God for your birth!!!!
