As a loyal and longtime fan (since 1974), I have every album of yours but one (Crazy Life) on vinyl, cassette tape or CD, and recently purchased "Haitek Haiku" from a Holland distributor (love it!). Alas, I have only seen you in concert twice (Inconsolable Man tour in Pontiac Michigan + Hurricane Katrina benefit). In New Orleans, I finally had the nearly unbearable pleasure of speaking to you in person when you signed my "These are the Days" CD.

When I discovered the wonderful world of 'YouTube', I was thrilled beyond words to hear all my favourite Gino Vanelli songs - not to mention video clips of stage performances I had never seen before.

So many delightful memories came flooding back to me....
I was eighteen, having just graduated from high school - and then suddenly I hear this sexy, beautiful voice, and 'I just wanna stop' for your love - and I was in love.

Gino's songs 'rocked' the discos where I went dancing in Toronto.
I bought his albums, and gazed longingly at the covers - dreaming that someday I would be that girl in the background he was singing about.

I lost track of Gino over the years, until one day in 2005 - 32 years later, I was sipping a cup of coffee watching a toronto morning television show, when who should appear as a singing guest? - that's right 'Gino Vannelli'! Well, I just about fell off the couch!

From that moment on - something inside me reawakened. Maybe it was my long-lost youth of dancing to the greatest music I have ever heard, but I discovered Gino Vanelli again, and an incredible excitement captured my heart and soul. Up until that moment, life was just one boring, tedious moment after another.......and then I heard 'When I think about those nights in Montreal' ' I get the sweetest thoughts of you and me.'..... What a beautiful voice, and what a beautiful man.

If Gino's back, well then so is Lorraine.....my life has taken on a new meaning.
I can't get enough of his songs, and music. Don't ever stop Gino!

It is a custom to devote deliberate attention to the sunrises and sunsets of specific days. The most spectacular days are the birth celebrations of “one” that impacts humanity selflessly and positively.

On June 16, 2007, two of my dearest friends accompanied me to absorb the unobstructed sunset while listening to the Master of Music. The CD player randomly selected, "Right Where I Am." I paused and marveled at the ability of a cloud to make a mountain completely vanish; suggesting the mysteries beyond perception. The beautiful cloud works were an array of formations, patterns and families. The clouds surrendered to the overpowering rays of the setting sun. The sun beams splashed bold hues of color across the sky while transitioning into varying shades of gray. As the crescent moon flawlessly illuminated the clear night sky, it was agreed that June 16th is the longest day of the year.

A spectacular sunrise or sunset is acknowledgment from the gods in appreciation of a job well done to the “one” celebrating their passage from year to year. Just as the dew is dried by the morning sun, My cares dissipate at the touch of Gino’s voice, lyrics and music.

Gino, I honestly believe, has been partly responsible for helping the Celtics get their mojo back this season, and he turns 56 today.

What does Gino have to do with the Celtics? If you have to ask, you haven't been to a game lately. "Gino Time" is celebrated at the Garden toward the end of home games, when it looks like the Celtics are about to win. A vintage clip of an American Bandstand show is displayed on the jumbotron with all the dancers in their cheesy 70's glory. And that's fun.

The dancer the fans wait for, though, the one who gets everyone shouting, is a lone dancer wearing a t-shirt from Gino Vannelli's Gemini tour. When he starts to shake his groove thang, that's Gino Time. And the fans go wild.

Why? Just because.

We don't question things like this - best to just roll with it.

Happy birthday, Gino. We owe you. The Big Three have paid you the ultimate respect - they couldn't take the crown without you there, and I don't think they would've played Gino in L.A. There is one sad aspect to this happy story - an intrepid Wall Street Journal reporter (no, really!) tracked down the identity of the mystery dancer sporting the Gino shirt - turns out his name was Joe Massoni, and he died of pneumonia in 1990.

My suspicion, or at the very least, my chosen belief - he was a Celtics fan. On a brighter note, you can actually own a Gino shirt for your very own - Vannelli's cool enough that he re-issued those tour shirts and has allowed the Celtics to put 'em up for sale on their website. A portion of the proceeds go to the Shamrock Foundation, the Celtics' charity program. Here's the link from the Celt's site. ******************************************************
