[1]: An e-mail from Jacques in Paris, France dated Tuesday 17 February 2009 with the subject: the cd's are in my hands

Hello les amis,
i ve received yesterday my 'A good thing' copies, (BIG SMILE) of course i ve listened it yesterday night.

My first impression, it s a jazzy album with a lot of good musical surprises specially with the dutch horn section very present on some tracks. The musicians are half americans and half dutch and the very information to mention is that Gino is playing a lot on this album (keyboards, bass, piano ...)

The sound is very good as always and yes i need to listen it again and again for a better report. For the 23 poems section of the cd/book i need more time you can imagine lol lol...i m french.

A very good monday night a fast shipment by NLSTORE thanks a lot to the dutch post.

A great art packaging by Ross Vannelli and last but not least a very beautiful piece of art with 23 poems to read carefully in your bed with a Collins or a Harraps dictionnary close to you.

Thanks a lot to Gino for surprising us at every new album, this cd is the album of the year 2009.
A bientôt les amis
Jacques

[3]: Nederlands/Dutch: Een e-mail d.d.

Gino gaan bewonderen. Hopelijk tot dan!!
Liefs, Cor en de kids.

[3]: English/Engels: An e-mail dated Saterday 14 February 2009 from Cor Dingena in Rotterdam the Netherlands with the subject: Till 23 March.

Yesterday I bought Gino's new cd (what a professional job and what a very beautiful artwork) also ordered tickets today for 23 March in Zoetermeer. It feels like a good reason to go on with life after Jannie passed away. It must be very clear that we miss Jannie so much and it's still very fresh in our minds. Jannie loved Gypsy Days a beautiful song, so you can imagine how hard it is to hear that song. But this song is too beautiful to ignore. For sure Gino will sing this song in Zoetermeer, that will be a very emotional experience for me.

I hope to see you all again in Zoetermeer so I can embrace you and hug you. I will be there with 2 friends, who will see and hear Gino for the very first time (!!!) live on stage and will admire Him. Hope to see you there!!!
Love, Cor and the Kids.

Woensdag 18 Februari 2009 met het onderwerp: A Good Thing

A Good Thing
Ik denk dat hij doorgaat op “when this world will live as one” (Brother to Brother) en “the New Jerusalem that quietly waits in everyone” (Gypsy Days) maar nu op een heel persoonlijke manier. Terug naar van waar wij komen. Thuis komen.

[8]: English/Engels: Ane-mail from a writer without a name in the Netherlands dated Wednesday 18 February 2009 with the subject: A Good Thing

A Good Thing
The cd/collection of poems is placed on a shelf between Tagore and William Blake.
I think a suitable place. I laughed out loud when reading “The Relatively Absolute Truth”. Hopefully that’s okay. The last sentence does it. “Woman Posing in the Cheval Glass” again like Venus Envy, I think a plea to women to treasure who they are (and what they look like) and what they might grow into when the wisdom years have arrived. To resist the cruel demands of society. Therefore ladies: leave the grey untouched. I do not at all understand all the poems – I look forward to many more days of ploughing and joy – but so far my favourite is “The Falconer”. I think he is elaborating on “when this world will live as one” (Brother to Brother) and “the New Jerusalem that quietly waits in everyone” (Gypsy Days) but now in a very personal way. The return to where we came from. Home. But do correct me when I am wrong! I really like his poems. You really have to dig beneath the surface. The challenging ( in terms of where is the dictionary) beautiful symbolic English language ( Cheval Glass/Janus-faced for example) and the fact that I have to brush up my esoteric and mythological knowledge. I do hope he will consider a next volume. The music is great and many have preceded me in praising his voice. A big thank you.

[11]: An e-mail from Fabio Fiano in Italy dated Thursday 19 February 2009 with the subject: Info

Dear Barend and Trees,
Yes, I have ordered 2 copies from an e-bay Dutch cd-shop, 2 copies from the Danish cd shop indicated from You and 4 copies in Italy (Here the cd is only import now and it takes 3 weeks to be in shop. This new is from CD distributors. Arghhhh.....!!!)

Only yesterday, in the evening, I found an internet Italian cd-shop that have had some copies(sold-out) and now it takes 7-22 days to have new Cds; This cd-shop is www.Cdbox.it and it is interesting because you can listen to 30 seconds of all songs on "A good thing" cd. I have listened 35 times(for now...) every soundclip and I think that the sound is elegant, definite, strong and in one word: W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L. I love that Gino used brass and the sound selected for the keyboards. I hope to have as soon as possible my Cds to listen to complete songs. Tomorrow morning I will listen the "Radio 2" concert and I hope someone will put it on Youtube to have it forever.
Best Regards, Fabio(Italy, S.Maria C.V.)

Isabel

So much fun yesterday, That Wil was allowed to go to the studio of "DE GOUDEN UREN" and be there live, I was listening in my office behind my computer.

We are spoiled rotten with all that beautiful music.
The new cd is also wonderful and I really love all the songs but I feel a soft spot for a few songs.
I did not read all the poems yet but I have to take the time to sit down with my dictionaries.
Love, from the UMC Utrecht (hospital) (have to work again!)

A Good Thing"? groetjes, Will

[21]: English/Engels: An e-mail from Will in Holland dated Thursday 26 February 2009 with the subject: Bijenkorf and the new cd

Hello Barend and Trees,
My opinion about "A Good Thing" ? To be honest I listened to the complete album only 3 times now and I came to this conclusion: It's an album which has to grow to me. It's a complete different style than for instance the "Powerful People" album, with which I fell in love immediately. Very normal and understandable too because so many years went by and people change of course.

I think the single "Measure of a man" is the most accessible song of this album and I can understand why they choose this song as the first introduction to this new album. Luckely His voice sounds still excellent and will never ever bore me. However I still cannot give a good and honest opinion about His latest record, but be sure I will pay big attention!!! I am closing now.. You two have a nice day and may I ask you too about your opinion of "A Good Thing"? Greetings, Will

Hello Barend and Trees,
It grows more beautiful by the minute and when you play it more often. And how nice that Gino mentions your shameless devotion in the cd-booklet. Fantastic isn't it!

[23]: More words from Terry in Pittsburgh, PA, USA dated 26 February 2009 with the subject: A Good Thing is A Great Thing!!!

Well, it was well worth the wait! Aside from Gino's never-ending talent and skill as composer, musician, lyricist, vocalist, arranger, ... the Dutch musicians are FANTASTIC. The music knocks your socks off!! Gino's intellect, wit, keen sense of observation and his connection with people and planet shines on this cd. A Good Thing is a tribute to the Dutch people and The Netherlands. It was a treat learning how Gino acclimated to life and his new surroundings. Humorously recounting his intimate encounters with the country's liberel policies, depicting countryside, individuals, and their idiosyncrasies that have become such a source of inspiration. In The Dutchbeat, Gypsy Days and A Good Thing, and in several poems, it's evident that the Dutch's endearing charm hangs over his heart! I'm very anxious to hear how the people in Holland feel about the cd! T

[24]: A message from the GINO VANNELLI guestbook dated Monday 2 March 2009 from Maru Camilli in Mexico City. With the subject: A GOOD THING

Gino is right LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, and he makes it more beautiful with his music and EXTRAORDINARY voice, the title of the new CD is a short name, it's not A GOOD THING, it's A WONDERFUL, EXTRAORDINARY, BEAUTIFUL THING, all the positive adjectives are not enough to describe his new album. It's absolutelly delicious.

The harmonies, the richness of all the instruments, the rythm and specially THE VOICE are out of this world. My ears, soul and bones could not believe such a wonderful compositions.

Dear Gino fans, if you haven't ordered your CD yet, run to do it. The internet store in Denmark is absolutely serious and reliable. My CD-BOOK took less than two weeks to reach my home in Mexico City!

Thank you Gino for this MASTERPIECE and thank you so much Barend and Trees for all the information to get this exquisite music. Listening now to Don't give up on me (I love the version with Michael Borstlap too!) A very nice week for you my dear friends in Holland.
Kisses and hugs from Mexico City.

Wow! Just received my copy of "Good Thing" via ebay via Holland. Well worth the price! Steel Guitar? Gino just ROCKS this CD, the poems are funny and insightful. Wish I could know this man more on a personal level, don't we all. To all of you US fans, don't wait for this CD, it is some of his best work. His maturity and life lessons show up in this body of work. Good thing, Dutchbeat, Gypsy Days (AWESOME), not one dog here. It is all incredible! Tom.

[26]: An e-mail from Jane (from Connecticut), USA dated Wednesday 11 March 2009 with the subject: wonderful!

Dear Barend & Trees,
I just got my new CD this week and it is wonderful! (What else would you expect from the Master??!) It seems the more I listen to it, the more I enjoy it. His voice is amazing. This CD has a very nice mix of music, I am very happy with it. I also checked out some of the poetry which was very nice, I will have to read it later when I have more time take it in.

You are probably starting to see spring arrive there – we have a few flowers coming out now – we have had a longer & harsher than usual winter here so the spring will be much more appreciated this year. Kindest regards, Jane (from Connecticut)

[27]: An e-mail from Jacques in Paris, France dated Wednesday 11 March 2009 with the subject: JACQUES AND NICK MOON

Hello les amis,
just for the fun i send you the recent email i ve posted to congratulate M. Nick MOON the master engineer of Gino on the 2 last studios albums. By the way you have noted that "A GOOD THING" is the first studio album NOT mastered by Bernie Grundman mastering in L.A.

Me and my friend Guillaume are thinking that this new album is a kind of mix with a lot of musical influences found on all the past albums of Gino. In fact it s a really Gino Vannelli album with some musical recollections found on Yonder Tree, Slow love, these are the days, etc. but with some fresh ideas a great harmonica solo , the horn section, a choral gospel flavour.

Simply one of the best work of Gino.
i m very happy to see that "A GOOD THING" is in the top of the dutch charts.
A bientôt les amis, Jacques

Hello Nick, Just a few words to congratulate you for the fine work you do on the new cd album of Gino. I ve ordered my copies in Holland and received it s last monday. The engineering and mastering are incredible the title track "a good thing" is one of my favorites but in fact i love all the album. You are a master engineer and you really understand how to record the artistry of Gino. Bravo again and have a nice day Jacques from Paris (France)

[28]: An e-mail from Kara in Dallas, Texas, United States of America dated Wednesday 4 March 2009 with the subject: my feelings about "A Good Thing"--WOW!

My CD arrived today and I excitedly opened this jewel and listened straight through--I was floored at how AMAZING this music is! Words almost cannot describe the exquisiteness of the poetry and the music....Gino's compositions have always been more sophisticated and complicated than the average pop musician, and his lyrics were, to me, the best ever written by any musician--period.

That's why I was drawn to his work in the 70s--he defies being labeled and put in a box. SO, that said, this CD is unbelievable! He just gets better and better, not just the voice, but the fabulous jazz components to his work.

My favorite songs are "Evermore," "Measure of a Man" (I'm also a former ballroom dancer, so I LOVE the cha cha in that song--please bring us more!), "Gypsy Days," "Don't Give Up On Me"....Sometimes I felt like if I closed my eyes I was in Gino's private jazz club and he was just jamming with the guys while we were silently watching, like a fly on the wall--it took me back to Big Bands, jazz nightclubs and really great singers.

Gino has the best music out today, and it's a sad reminder that Americans are not exposed anymore to genuine, authentic, quality MUSIC-- music that you can sing to, that has meaningful lyrics, that makes you think, that makes you want to dance, that makes you yearn for the old days--music that really moves you.

Jazz and R&B is where Gino shines--I'm thrilled to have this valuable piece of work but sad that Gino is so under appreciated and under valued in the music industry--Clive Davis should never have let him go....instead we get stuck with Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and rap....it's just pathetic.

As an English major in college, I was eagerly awaiting his poetry, and....NOT DISAPPOINTED! The poetry is just amazing...You really have to think when reading each line and use your imagination--just exquisite prose. My favorites are "Love and Politics," "Said Wisdom," "The Relatively Absolute Truth," "The Falconer" and the words to the song "Evermore." Personally, I wish Gino would release poetry with EVERY FUTURE CD--AND I think he should read some poetry at his concerts....sometimes things are better read than sung, but mostly people just need some exposure to beautiful poetry...people need to get back to the written word instead of being bombarded with TV, internet, movies, Iphones, etc. all day long. But then, I'm into the written word, so that's where I come from.

LOVE the poetry, Gino--your grade is A+ from this former teacher!

This is a masterpiece, Gino! PLEASE continue to bring us more of this music and poetry--it's divine.
Kara M.

Hi B & T,
I must tell you I'm in a bliss!! I feel like I just got a long anticipated hug...I love the new CD.It arrived yesterday (Monday)...I've already listened to it four times. I'm saving the poetry for an evening when I can read with out rushing and enjoy a nice glass of wine....I'm going have to break out a god bottle from the cellar!

The music is fantastic! Not sure which song is my favorite yet...I most certainly will have a a favorite for the music and a favorite for the words. Gypsy Days reminds me a bit of the Slow Love CD.

The new CD is full of foot tapping music. And I'm very happy! Thank you soooo much for mailing the CD book to me! I have been looking forward to new Gino music.
Regards, Julie S

[30]: Another e-mail from Kara in Dallas, Texas, USA dated Wednesday 11 March 2009 with the subject: I bought another "A Good Thing" CD/booklet from Plato--

Dear Barend & Trees,
I bought another "A Good Thing" CD/booklet from Plato--
I wanted to be sure I had an extra one--one for the car and one for the home....you know, I always have multiple copies of everything Gino does.

I didn't want to impose on you again, and I also wanted to see how long it takes to get it from Plato.

Question--I'm thinking about framing the CD booklet Gino signed, but it's not really conducive for framing. Do you know if anyone has tried to frame the booklet to protect it or what people over there are doing with their signed booklets? Just curious.

Hi Barend and Trees,
I tried to sign the guestbook this evening but it wouldn't give me a code. So I will write to the site.

My wait is final! I was trying to tear open the package as I was walking to the front door! At last, Gino's new cd, A Good Thing. Love the pictures and art work. Where do I begin?? The music, the poems!! What a gift!! Ok, the music, got to hear the voice! So far, A Good Thing is my favorite song. Scanned each song but need to listen to each one over and over....this is so surreal to have another cd of Gino's to listen to.

Barend & Trees,
Thanks for the info on the new CD.

I ordered my CD's from the imusic site in Denmark and received them yesterday. The package was received in good shape and everything I ordered was in the package.

Last evening I played the CD quite a few times. Hope I didn't wear it out but I do have a spare one on hand just in case( LOL). This CD was so worth the wait. Gino sounds great. The music is different and a great mix of new sounds. Beautiful words and clever lyrics round out the perfect songs for the listeners enjoyment. Hard to pick a favorite song but I am really loving Knight of the Road, Measure of a Man and The DutchBeat. Please tell the Master.
Bravo,Gino!!! Great work. Thanks for all the hard work, it was so so worth it!!!

[38]: An e-mail from Maru Camilli in Mexico City dated Saterday 28 February 2009 with the subject: A GOOD THING!!!!!!

Oh my God, I'm completely blown away with the new CD.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I had it in my hands so quickly.
My new treasure was sent on Feb. 19 from Denmark and it arrived yesterday.
I have been able to listen to it just 3 times, but I fell in love with the new songs immediatelly.

I adore Gino's voice singing low notes and very high notes. The way Gino can handle his voice is absolutelly extraordinary. WOW!!!!!!

THANK YOU AGAIN DEEP FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, Only 2 weeks after the release date, I can enjoy of the new album, it's amazing, and it was possible thanks to you!!! I've always liked the sound of the organ, and the arrangements of the organ and of all the other many instruments he used on this new MASTERPIECE is just lovely. Gino making second voice, the arrangement of backing vocals, starting with drums in a soft way and then taking a delicious rythm, Gino's double voice when he sings FROM THIS DAY ON, the romantic lyrics, the sweet music, the "wake up and dance" parts of the CD, the richness of the use of so many instruments.

All I can say is I'm evermore in love with Gino's music!!!!

About the poems, I have to take a time to seat quietly, with my dictionary next to me, as you say, and read and read and read to try to understand the real meaning. I'll let you know my opinion when I had done it.

Gino: I love this new CD. So exquisite, so jazzy, soooooooooo nice music and THE BEST VOICE ON EARTH EVER!!!!!! Dear friends, thank you soooooooooo much again. A big hug and all my gratitude.

ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD NOT A MOMENT TO WASTE!!!!
Nice weekend. Love. Maru.

Hello Barend & Trees,
Over the weekend I had the chance to listen to A Good Thing and WOW WOW WOW!!!
The more you listen the better it gets.
While I was listening I came up with this take on the whole CD.

From This Day On
it's A Good Thing
The Knight of the Road
walked The Dutchbeat
and took a Night Drive
to remember his Gypsy Days.

Don't Give Up
Because you know
The Measure of a Man
is to sing from the heart
for his loyals subjects
when they gather round
Evermore

It was great to see that the CD is in the top 50 in Holland.
Such a great masterpiece.
TTYS, Mary Lou

I have listened to this CD almost every day, this is some of Gino's very best work.
For some reason the magnitude of this CD struck me as strong as the first time I listened to Billy Joel. The lyrics are always so strong with Gino, so thought provoking, easily painting pictures in your mind. The various types of music is astonishing. From the jazzy "Good Thing", to Gypsy Woman (Wow!) with steel guitar to the rocking Measure of a Man and on and on. Then while listening to the CD for the third time straight the first night I received it, I read the poems. Man, Gino is one talented man. I have listened to GV for over 30 years now and I honestly think this IS his best work!

Greetings!
I would like to change this note I sent you recently…..:
The first concert we saw was in Montreal last July and it was fantastic, it got us hooked. I think it was really nice because it was just Gino and Bert, and the hall was a smaller one, more intimate. If they go there again this year, we will go again – we can drive from here, but I am not counting on them coming. I do like the songs He does which have more subtle music and more focus on His voice. In this last CD, it seems (to me) that the music is a bit too dominate – it takes away from His voice. Please tell Him he is loved and appreciated here in the U.S. I am sending a picture of the first little flowers in my garden to cheer you, have a wonderful time with Gino!
Jane

…..I was listening to His new CD on a player which was set up improperly…. I listened to the CD on my MP3 player with the ear buds and His voice was perfectly balanced with the music, so please disregard the last statement I made. I have been enjoying it immensely. Enjoy your spring………Jane

Hello barend & trees!
Today, finally, I´ve got the new CD.
It is simple: you can order “A GOOD THING” in shop FNAC (MADRID, Spain) and they send a notice when the CD is in the shop. Fnac consider than the new CD is a importacion CD and the price is 20,95 euros.
Sorry, in the shop there is not the CD but they get it for you in a twenty or thirty days.
And if you like “These are the days”, it is the same way too.
Antonia Funes, MADRID Spain

In Spanish: Hoy, finalmente he conseguido el nuevo CD. También puedes pedir “These are the days”.

[47]: An e-mail from Said & Bianca from Mexico dated Friday 13 March 2009 with the subject: Said from Mexico

Hello Barend & Trees,
The other day I was speaking with Maru and she told me you have a Gino souvenir collection.
I would like to know if you have something from his 1991 Mexico concert.
His first time in Mexico was in 1991 and did four concerts, two at the hotel Fiesta Palace and the other two at a public theatre (called Theatre Angela Peralta, in honor of an opera singer from the 1800's).

Then he came back to a Festival in Acapulco playing only three songs. The funny thing is that most of the other artists performed with "playback" , but of course, Gino sung live. I haven't been able to get any recording from this festival.

About your question on the new CD, I sense this CD with a lot of jazz swing and great metal arrangements. With Fender Rhodes and organ sounds that remembered me of the song Powerful People (in the brake where you can hear only a jazz band, a double bass, a Fender... a lot of swing). All these is Gino's essence.....it has been there since his first recordings. It a masterpiece.

I have a ticket that I would like to give you from the concert at the Angela Peralta on July 27 1991. Where can I send it?
Thank you

[48]: An e-mail from David Piqué from Dallas, Texas, USA dated Friday 13 March 2009 with the subject: world music - Canto.

Hey guys, no artist can top Gino!
I've followed his music from the beginning.
I have enjoyed some of the EU jazz live concerts Gino has, tho they are not always NA compatible with NA equipment. They will play on PC/Macs, but not on traditional stereo/digital systems.

In my opinion, as a musician, he is best suited for the earlier (jazz, pop, classical, rock) genre. From there I loved the world music - Canto. Still to this day I have that CD in my car player.

I like the new CD. I'm not a country fan nor do I envision Gino as a country artist, but think his country interpretation on 2-3 tracks are palatable. Cool that u guys received "props" from Gino V on his CD notes....... Pictures r of the era I really enjoyed his music... See my pictures:

[51]: Another enthusiastic e-mail from Maru in Mexico City dated Saterday 14 March 2009 with the subject: THE MEASURE OF A MAN VIDEO

Dear friends:
Gino is THE ARTIST!!!
I wonder why are we Gino fans as we are. We all are grown up adults, most of us have gone beyond the half of our lives and we behave like teenagers when it’s about Gino. He hooks us completely and blows our minds away! Listening to his new CD is something out of this world, but watching him in a video goes beyond (if it can be possible!) I agree with some Gino fans who write that there are no words enough to describe the feeling of listening to his music and voice, and what to say of attending to a concert or watching a new video. I just love THE MEASURE OF A MAN video.

GINO FANS: If you want to catch EVERY SOUND of the beautiful music and voice, get good headphones, seat on a comfortable couch, doing nothing else and play the new CD, you will discover wonderful things!

Thank you friends for all the pictures, the black and white one is a glorious work of art!

I wish from the bottom of my heart, that this video will be for sale, in the Gino Vannelli quality (which means PERFECT!)
Enjoy enjoy and enjoy as much as you can, all the concerts to come, lucky you!
When people is good, good things happen to them. Imagine how good you are, to deserve everything happening to you!
Love and Thanks from Mexico City.
Maru.

Hello les amis !!
DOBEDEDOBOP !! OH YEA !!
I just can’t stop listening to this GOOD THING since i received it on FEB 16 after pre-ordering it at BOL…

« Monday 16 february, i received the cd at 11am and decided to wait nightfall to listen it so i went in the nightclub, put a confortable seat in the middle of the dancefloor (nightclub was closed) lol !! pizza and drinks… i felt that Gino voice was so high, too high, and it was good not that much !! since ; i listen to it everyday !!

Cause you realised all the subtility in his voice, when Gino make the variation beetween low notes « and i’ll go out with a song » And high notes « i wanna drive all night » almost at the end of the song.i love that !! pure voice like clear water ! I had the same sensation for pauper in paradise , and yonder tree…surprised at the first listening. !

« the dutch beat » make me think at « jehovah and all that jazz » when the music change many times…

« don’t give up » seems « you owe it to yourself »

This feeling of freedom in « knight of the road »

The deep blue of « night drive »

« gypsy days » it’s like reading a book, or watching a beautiful movie…

All the time in Gino music, the words reflect perfectly the music…
I love this Good Thing
It’s so musically rich, seems like i discover it everyday….
, i like Gino singing Jazz
And this one is swinging, jazzy, and groovy….and the horn section, that’s what i hoped and Gino did it….

You know a good thing and thanks for singing it to us !! none so beautiful !!
Thank you GINO for all this work of art !!!!
Thank you B&T for everything…all the best !!

Hello Barend & Trees,
Yesterday I met Maru and her husband in my restaurant, here in Mexico City. We were there for several hours. Guess what we were talking about? Of course, Gino.

I am sending you some pictures of our reunion and with Gino's new cd- book outside my restaurant. We are very happy that Gino is coming to Mexico to the Jazz Festival. The Toussaint brothers organize this festival every year. These mexican musicians are of the most recognized in the jazz genre. In the last Montreal festival, they participated with their group Sacbe. And also when Gino performed at that same festival, Fernando Toussaint, being at the audience, was invited to play with Gino. In fact, there's a picture at your site where Fernando appears with Gino at the Jazz Festival June 5th 2008. He is the first one on the right: Fernando Toussaint...

Fernando and my brother in law, Leonardo Sandoval, had a Jazz group called Palmera back in the 80's 90's. They played Jazz funk. They were very successful. We are going to try to contact Fernando to get more information on Gino's visit to Mexico and keep you informed.

Hoi mensen,

I still have another question: You made pictures at the MCO. Can I please have these pictures especially the one where me and my Daughter are talking with Gino, where my Daughter looks up in a funny way, she has a drink in her hands. We really love this picture! Yeahhhh! With kind regards,

Hello Barend and Trees,
I received Gino's CD yesterday and listened to it already 5 times at least.
To tell you the truth I didn't know what to expect from this CD but my first impressions after seeing and listening the video of The measure of a man was really good and while It might not become a classic like Brother to Brother I think the CD is fantastic..... Powerful and very catchy melodies, beautiful arrangements (as usual) and lots of energy at times which is really nice ...

The packaging is beautiful too but won't fit on none of my CD shelves hahahaha.... bummer!
Take care, Bruno

[61]: Nederlands/Dutch: Een e-mail d.d.

  1. A GOOD THING: prachtige tekst/ mooie wisselingen van toonhoogte
  2. THIS DAY ON: één van mijn favorieten/ mooi van opbouw/ openingsnummer in Het Paard in Den Haag (dus voor mij het eerste nummer ooit live gezien), waardoor het altijd speciaal zal blijven. En steeds wachten op de opbouw naar die ene zin halverwege "Is full of something other than grace".
  3. NIGHT DRIVE: prachtig melancholisch nummer met net zo'n prachtig arrangement
  4. DUTCHBEAT: mijn tweede favoriet/ "Said, my oh my! And the moon and the stars shine on."; zo mooi, zoals dat stukje twee keer terug komt in het nummer; alsof je even mee mag lopen door Amsterdam.
And I'll go out with a song".
  8. THE MEASURE OF A MAN: originele tekst (daar had meer mee gedaan kunnen worden in de clip)/ lekker chaotisch begin/ prachtig tussenstuk eindigend met "Even now I hear her speak" Maar de clip vond ik tegenvallen (wat een zeur hè).
  9. DON'T GIVE UP ON ME: mijn derde favoriet; prachtig!

You asked me how I feel about A GOOD THING, so here I go...:

I think that the new Cd is surprising and still feels familiar, Little jazzy, beautiful arrangements, but way too short
(I think 9 songs are not many songs):

  1. A GOOD THING: beautiful lyrics / wonderful fluctuations and variations in the pitches of the tune.
  2. THIS DAY ON: one of my favorites / beautiful structure / Opening song in Het Paard (Trojan Horse) in The Hague (so for me it's the very first song I ever heard live), and that's why it will be special to me forever. And keep on waiting till the structure goes to that one line somewhere in the middle of this song: "Is full of something other than grace".
  3. NIGHT DRIVE: Splendid melancholic song with just such a splendid arrangement.
  4. DUTCHBEAT: my second most favorite/ "Said, my oh my! And the moon and the stars shine on."; so beautiful, how that piece comes back twice in this song; feels like you walk along with Him through Amsterdam.
  5. GYPSY DAYS: beautiful but a little bit too sweet goody-goody. I think that the version I saw of this song in the tv show "Vrije Geluiden" with Michiel Borstlap is more beautiful than the one on the cd. Where did Michiel Borstlap go? I only saw his name with the last song on the cd, but he does not play anywhere, is he?? A long time they announced that they should make a cd together and that he was the new brother.
  6. KNIGHT OF THE ROAD: really such a car-song / I did not know that he could sing so low: "And I'll go out with a song".
  7. EVERMORE: evenmore goody-goody than GYPSY DAYS (and that's when I lose contact, sorry)
  8. THE MEASURE OF A MAN: great original lyrics (they should have done more with those lyrics in the clip)/ the start is chaotic but in a nice way/ lovely interval ending with "Even now I hear her speak" I was disappointed about this clip.(Oh well, I am such a whiny).
  9. DON'T GIVE UP ON ME: My third most favorite; wonderful! Especially the end, when more different voices sing at the same time.

I am very curious to know what you two think about this new cd.

I cannot wait till next Sunday. I am also curious to know how the Maastricht concert was. See you on Sunday, Mdeb.

Mr. Vannelli,
Barend and Trees,
Ain't no bad economy can keep me down when I I know my new Gino CD will soon be coming around! FINALLY, after waiting with breathless anticipation and the long shipping time from Denmark, my copy of "A Good Thing" arrived today in Canton, GA (USA). Brilliant!

Wonderfully crafted. I love the packaging, so cool.
I was a man of many chores on this wonderfully bright and sunny Saturday, the first day of spring. Now, my day will consist of deeply soaking in all of this new Gino music. To paraphrase "A Good Thing"- "He got a voice a smooth as silk, a set of lungs that just won't quit".

Now please bring yourself to the good ole' US of A once again. Atlanta, GA. The Tabernacle, Fox Theater, so we can take this all in live. Thank you 'o Gino for your gift!

A GOOD DAY INDEED!!
A life long fan!

[64]:An e-mail dated Friday 3 April 2009 from Caliope in the United States of America with the subject: "A Good Thing" is really a great thing

Hello Barend & Trees
Just received my new CD "A Good Thing" and I'm lovin' it!
I feel it is very different from what I expected but truly remarkable.
Jazzy and smooth, poetic but cool.
I think my stereo is going to have a workout with this one.
Thank you for all your great dedication to this talented soul.
Best Regards, Caliope

[65]:An e-mail dated Tuesday 7 April 2009 from Claude and Nadine in Versailles, France with the subject: My take on A Good Thing

Hello B+T!
Well, what do I think of the songs on A Good Thing (I haven't read the poetry yet)?
And I kind of like it! I'd say it's in the same vein as Slow Love, only a little grittier.

The cd was pretty easy to listen to since, with the exception of Night Drive, I'd heard the other songs live. So here's my take song by song?

- A good thing: Pretty hot blues number, which is pretty rare (I usually find blues booooring).

- This day on: Nice stuff. I really really like the lyric.

- Night Drive: Starts as a ballad, but powers up during the last third, which isn't the best idea in my opinion.

- The Dutchbeat: Pretty fun song that sounds a little like Steely Dan. But has he really tested the local bakeries???

- Gypsy Days: A real surprise! I wasn't convinced by the song when I heard it live or on videos, but the arrangement is slightly different. The steel guitar adds a lot to it.

- Knight of the road: What was just a fun song, picked up a lot of substance since I heard it in London. Another good surprise (with AC chart potential!).

- Evermore: A disappointment here. It had serious AC hit potential, but the arrangement is too sappy for my taste.

- The Measure of a man: The beginning is a little weird (gotta cool down on those percissions, Gino!), but it's a pretty catchy pop tune made for Baby Boomers and Generation Xers!

- Don't give up on me: YESS! The power ballad we expected, with the horns and the backup singers. Might have gone even a bit more overboard on this one a la James Brown.

All in all, a pretty good album, that may suit the Black Cars-era fans. One small disappointment, though: Rosebud is dead (Boy was the London version promising!) isn't on the album. Hey maybe next time!
Take care! Claude

[66]:An e-mail dated 31 March 2009 from Dawn S. in California, USA with the subject: Gino Vannelli

Barend and Trees,
I finally received Gino's CD and poetry book in the mail.
It took a long time to come from Holland but it was worth the wait.
I have played it every day and the more I listen to the songs the more that I love them.
This album is so different from the others. Sounds more jazzy and diversified. Wonderful words and music.

I love his poems and think some of them would be great songs. Thanks for sharing Plato because without them I would still be listening to the songs on your web site. Not bad....but the CD is better.
Thanks again for all that you do.
Have a great week and Happy Easter.
Dawn S. La Habra

Well deserved.

[71]:Another nice and funny e-mail dated 28 April 2009 from Jacques in Paris, France, Europe with the subject: the cd "a good thing" in Paris

Hello les amis,
i m very happy to inform you that in Paris last saturday i ve seen at the FNAC cd shop of Châtelet les Halles in the center of the city the last album of Gino in quantities. At the Gino Vannelli cd section i ve seen some 10 copies of "A GOOD THING" at the very good price of 19 euros but also the two last imported remastered albums (for the fanatics) :

CD one from USA "nightwalker/black cars" (+ 1 one bonus extended track of black cars) - editor friday music.
CD two from England "powerful people/ storm at sunup" - editor BGO records

Of course the good news is that the last Gino's excellent album is available easily for the fans.
So it s a parisian information i agree, but a very important news LOL LOL....
A bientôt les amis
Jacques

Hi, about Gino Vannelli's new cd:
"Dutch Beat" and "A Good Thing"... This is an amazing cast of musicians and the music is just killin'! Fans old and new should dig this one. CH

[73]:An e-mail dated Thursday 30 April 2009 from Cynthia K. in Tacoma, Washington, USA with the subject: From the Gino Vannelli home/index web page with comments on A GOOD THING Gino Vannelli's new cd-book.

Greetings B & T,
I live near Seattle and ordered my CD from Platos. It took about 3 weeks to arrive and the US $ cost was approximately $32.00, fairly inexpensive considering the value of the cd and the interesting poems. The Music is bringing much joy in my not so perfect world right now.

It would be hard to pick one favorite off the cd, I would lean towards My gypsy days, so soulful, with such feeling, hopefully we can all relate to the beauty of the song. My husband is a songwriter and I am of course his biggest fan, but we are both huge Gino fans. I hope that Gino will have a concert near here soon, we are 1 hour from Seattle and 2 hours from Portland. My husband's band has performed at the Triple Door in Seattle, and there is Jazz Alley in Seattle and Jazz Bones in Tacoma, I think our musical community and fans would be very supportive and extremely happy to be able to hear Gino share his new Music. Again, the cd is joyful and I play it all day at my company, my employees are becoming Gino fans too! I appreciate the updates and all of the info. I wish I could return the favors!
Sincerely.
Cynthia K. Tacoma, Wa.

[74]:An e-mail dated Thursday 30 April 2009 from Theresa in the USA with the subject: From the Gino Vannelli home/index web page with comments on A GOOD THING Gino Vannelli's new cd-book.

Hi, Also received the cd and I LOVE it soooooooooooooooMUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God bless you Gino. YOUR MUSIC HAS A DISTINCT SOUND, NOT ONLY BEAUTIFUL, IT IS ALSO UNIQUE. UNLIKE ANYTHING I'VE HEARD. I RARELY BUY MUSIC, BUT I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED LISTENING TO IT WHILE I WAS WALKING ON THE TREADMILL! WHEN "THE DUTCH BEAT" PLAYED, I SCRAMBLED OFF OF THE TREADMILL AND WROTE DOWN THE TITLE OF THAT CD, THAT SONG CAPTIVATED ME.
I WISH YOU MUCH SUCCESS!

[75]:An e-mail dated 16 April 2009 from Carsten Weide in Denmark with the subject: Emne: From the Gino Vannelli home/index web page with comments on A GOOD THING Gino Vannelli's new cd-book.

Hello there !
Well, I think the CD sound is a bit compressed compared to albums before this. There is not so much dynamic on it, and that is a shame. But the songs are great.
(It is also the first album tha is not mastered by Bernie Grundman may that is why, who knows).

My / our daughter is now 7 years old, and my / our son 2 years, oh my time flies fast.
Take care, I hope to hear from you soon
Kind regards, Carsten Weide Denmark

[76]:An e-mail dated 16 April 2009 from Christopher Buckley in PA, USA with the subject: A Good Thing is available on itunes for $8.91 in US

Hi B&T,
There seems to be some trouble getting the CD here in the US.
Amazon.com claims that the CD is "out of production". What the hell are they talking about? It never went into production! ROFLOL! Even the places in Canada seem to be lacking any copies. These people are on Mars!

There are a few vendors on Ebay that are selling the CD from the Netherlands for around $32. It is available on iTunes either by individual song or the entire CD for $8.91. While you don't get the poetry, you do get the songs and album cover.
Seems like a good deal.
Pass it along if it is news......
Regards, Christopher Buckley, CPA

PS.: Sorry, the Ebay price is $34.99, but it includes shipping. One would assume that means airmail, but perhaps not.

[77]:An e-mail dated 23 April 2009 from Anne D. in Bruxelles, Belgium, Europe with the subject: the one and only

Dear both of you,
you probably don't remember me, but we at at the last 5 GIno concerts I attended in the NEtherlands (a.o. Deventer, Tilburg, Maastricht) and I managed to get a signature and a few words... anyway, will not ridicule myself with teenager's sighs but cannot say anything but: Gino is unique,

his last album a(nother) pure gem

and I am so so so grateful to you, who have at least created the best site for us to "get together" and await Gino's next concert... which will be Middelburg, as I noticed with extreme joy.

Imagine I have been a fan since I am 7 years old... with a brother who made us all in the family discover this great artist... now 34 years later, the moment is real and the fascination still growing.

My question finally : could you provide with GIno's mail address? I cannot tell you how much it would mean to me.

[78]:Another e-mail dated 4 May 2009 from Christopher Buckley in PA, USA with the subject: Mini review.

Hi B&T,
Thanks for the information. I ordered a copy from Plato.
I also have the Apple itunes edition from several weeks ago. I burned a CD from this and had a chance to listen to the entire album once, so far.

Very jazzy sounds coming from Gino.
My favorite three songs are:
A Good Thing
The Dutchbeat
The Measure of a Man

I also saw the "you tube" video of "The Measure of a Man" accessed from Gino's website about a month ago.

I think overall it is another great album. I'll give you a formal review once I've received the CD from Plato and have a chance to read the poetry.
Talk to you soon,
Chris

[79]: Nederlands/Dutch: Een e-mail d.d.

Hallo Barend and Trees,

[79]: English/Engels: An e-mail dated Monday 4 May 2009 from Mia and Peter in Vlissingen, the Netherlands with the subject: Gino Vannelli comes to Middelburg.

Hello Barend and Trees,
We have to give you two a reaction because we saw on your web site that Gino comes to Middelburg, we are speechless or is it wordless? I cannot type anymore because of the nerves. Fantastic and what a big surprise and how cool that you mention this news on your web site because there is nothing on the official web site! NO NOTHING! Thank you so much and of course we have Gino's new cd A GOOD THING and enjoy it everyday but we have to say it's something else and completely different as with the Magogo Orchestra, the concert we enjoyed so very much. We love the song: A GOOD THING and also EVERMORE and yes of course all nine songs are great, we listen to the whole cd over and over again and we really like the whole package also the booklet with the poems. The poems are very difficult for us because we already have problems with the English language but we sit down and try to understand and with Gino's new music in the background! Great! You two thanks again and maybe we see you in Middelburg. Greetings from Mia and Peter in Vlissingen, Zeeland.

[80]:An e-mail dated 8 June 2009 from Chantal in Holland with the subject: A GOOD THING

Hi Barend & Trees,
Thanks for letting me know about Gino's A GOOD THING. I try in English: LOVVVVEEEEE "Evermore". Beautiful song. And the rest of the cd makes me smile and I love to play it! The poems are a different thing because they are very difficult to read but I will and tell you more..... What a guy is that GINO VANNELLI!!! And he mentions your names in the booklet. WOW!!!! I am proud of you two!!! Thanks for the CD and I will treasure the whole package. So I did my best with the english but it took a lot of energy and I hope the Canadian and American Gino Vannelli fans can read my words and more important understand my lines... KEEP ON WALKING Gino!!!!!!!!!

[81]:An e-mail dated Sunday 14 June 2009 from Marion Buyse in Utrecht, Holland with the subject: An expression of enthusiasm about GINO.

Dear Barend and Trees,
I write directly in the English language: What a GREAT album is A GOOD THING!!! Because I have now more mony, I have bought several albums from Gino. I love so many songs of him!!! He is really a master in putting thoughts and feelings into beautiful lyrics and great music!!!!!!! I am so happy that he is partly in Holland, so that we can see him perform and meet him!!!!

His music is AWESOME and his shows are EXCITING and he looks GORGEOUS and moves beautiful on the instrumental parts. I have seen 3 shows in Utrecht, The Hague and Amsterdam. I wanted so much to come also to Zoetermeer, but I had a ticket for Tina Turner on the same date and I haven't succeded to change that to her other concert. But she was also GREAT!!! And this was defenitly the last chance to see her live!

Gino, I am looking foreword to more shows of you with your Dutch band, and wish you much succes with your tour in America, Mexico and Canada. And Gino: I am worried: please be careful with the Mexican flu going around over there!
Many greetings, Marion Buyse, Utrecht, Holland, June 14th 2009.

[82]:Another e-mail dated Sunday 14 June 2009 from Marion Buyse in Utrecht, Holland with the subject: An enthusiastic reaction about Gino's new album A GOOD THING.

I have run to the cd-shop 1 day after Gino's album A GOOD THING was released to buy this album.
I have listened so many times to it, that, if it was an old-fashioned vinyl record, it would be grey by now!!!!!
I LOVE every song of it.
Gino's beautiful voice, melodies, lyrics, music, arrangements, modulations, rythems, backgroundvocals.....they are all GREAT !!! Really AWESOME!!!!!!!

Gino: I thank you so much for so much beautiful music. I am glad that you live partly in Holland, so that we can enjoy your exciting concerts.
Many greetings, Marion Buyse, Utrecht, Holland, June 14th, 2009.

[83]:An e-mail dated 18 June 2009 from Christopher Buckley in PA, USA with a first reaction about A GOOD THING. His subject: First Reading of "A Good Thing" Poetry.

I have to be quite honest with you, some of this is a bit disturbing. Maybe it hits a little to close to home?
Perhaps.
I have to let it "marinate" for awhile.
Still water runs deep!
Maybe a few glasses of Amstel will help.

I'll take it with me to DC next week and see if I can pinpoint the feelings.

[84]:An e-mail dated the 1st of July 2009 from Chas in the United States with the subject: From the cd-book links web page where you can find a link to order Gino Vannelli's A GOOD THING...

Please tell me the easiest and least expensive place for me to buy this album that you know of in the usa. Also, how do you make sure you're getting the 12 track version, as I see there is a nine track version out there...Please help a diehard Gino fan out! Thanks

Here are a few tips!!!!

[85]:An e-mail dated the 1st of July 2009 from Christopher Buckley in PA, USA with thoughts on A Good Thing.

I promised to give you a review of “A Good Thing” by Gino Vannelli.

Though the years, it has been nearly impossible to pin Gino down to a single genre.
A Good Thing is no exception, but with the old Vannelli twist. Not only do we have the music and poetry, but he took the bold step of not releasing this CD in North America. I’m sure there were a few raised eyebrows in the music industry over the morning coffee and paper. Needless to say, I think that Gino might have made a good CIA operative had the Herb Alpert incident not worked out. But, we will never know.

I mentioned to you earlier that I thought the poems were a little bit disturbing and that I needed some time to “let them marinate”. I think that the issue is poetry tends to become a psychological analysis of the innermost thoughts of the poet. (Whatever you do, don’t read Edgar Allan Poe on a stormy night!) It is gritty, down to earth and “in your face”. In any event, I tend to agree with a lot of the things Gino is saying:

  1. I prefer beer over any other spirit.
  2. Americans are in your face, but sometimes we are the only ones that lift a finger. Sometimes you need a catalyst. I think China would be less tolerant of dissention.
  3. Everybody has a relationship that collapses. You have to get over the trauma as soon as possible and move on.
  4. Christmas is a drag for me too. I think that my mother had the right idea: take a cruise to the tropics! I believe and it is a drag. There is no toy out there that gets me excited.
In my opinion, the two best songs are “A Good Thing” and “The Measure of a Man”. All in all, it is a good thing.

[86]:An e-mail dated the 3rd of July 2009 from Valerie F. in Philadelphia, PA, the United States with the subject: From the Gino Vannelli home/index web page with comments on A GOOD THING Gino Vannelli's new cd-book...

Hi guys,
Loving the website with all the love from around the world.
Thank you so much.
This You tube is fun especially since I do not see a tour for Philly. I can see Gino day or night, it is fantastic.

Tell Gino this Yank just can't get enough of a Good Thing and for more than 30 years I have not, will not never ever Give Up on him. He is looking so well and still sounding so smooth.
Have a great weekend,

[87]:Two more e-mails dated the 12th 27th of July 2009 from Chas in the United States of America with the subject: Re: From the cd-book links web page where you can find a link to order Gino Vannelli's A GOOD THING......

12 July 2009: I ordered 3 gino cds a while back to catch up on my collection.
Slow love, yonder treew and a good thing. A good thing I got on amazon. com, and it hasnt arrived. I got it used for $20. I will let you know how I like it when I get it, but I am sure I will love it as much as everything else he does. I finally got to see him live about 8 months ago.

...I saw him in atlantic city..an hour from where I live. He was great

27 July 2009: finally got it a couple of days ago.
It amazes me that as good as gino is, his music is not even released in the usa.
Another of my favorites, level 42, as well.

As for the cd, I think it is very good. Gino has explored many sides of music in his career. For me, my favorite of his eras was the brother to brother/nightwalker period...a little more agressive-rock. That being said, I think canto was a masterpiece and the best singing he has ever done. This new cd A Good Thing is a much better one than his last one (I forget the name). It is a more delicate, sensitive cd. Ginos voice seems to improve with every new venture, and so does his lyrics. I often wonder just how much of the music he writes, and if he plays well why does he never play himself. Im still getting used to the cd, as it always takes me a while to fully digest all the subtleties of his music, but I really like it.

[88]:Another e-mail dated 24 July 2009 from Marion Buyse in Utrecht, Holland with the subject: Gino's new album It's a Good Thing.

Dear Barend en Trees,
Would you please put this on Gino's webpage? Does he regualerly read all our comments on his music? If not would you be so nice to mail this to him? I would really like it a lot if he reads this:

Dear Gino, I have written a small song with a little help from yourself about how much I love your new album. It's somewhere on the fanclubwebsite. In a creative mood I have written some more: so with a little help from you and on your melody I sing for you:

When I think of all your shows in Holland
the greatest songs where moving me!
Ran to the cd-shop to buy this:
It's A GOOD THING, (I) want to add this:
It's A GREAT THING, it's FANTASTIC!!!!!

I just wanna stop, and tell you how I feel about your music!
I just wanna stop, the world ain't right without your music!
I just wanna stop, for your sou-ou-ound!

Dear Gino, this is how much I love your records! I hope to see you perform again in Holland!
Love and many greetings,
Marion Buyse, Utrecht, Holland.

[89]:A GINO VANNELLI cd review found on the internet dated August 2009 from a person with no name. Title: Review of the Gino Vannelli CD A GOOD THING

The exceptionally talented Pop artist Gino Vannelli has released his CD entitled A Good Thing. I am very confident and happy to announce that I believe Gino Vannelli fans, and Pop fans alike will be pleased with this one. With the release of A Good Thing Gino Vannelli’s artistic excellence is on full display as Vannelli has once again delivered a brilliant collection of tracks that could very well be his best work to date.

I am greatly disappointed this album is not available in the U.S. giving the following this artist has.
This is really bogus to make us suffer and have to pay exurbanite prices for an artist that actually resides in Oregon.

love the new album.
And the title track is simply stunning.
Was great to see him at Jimmy Mak's. What made it even better was seeing him with my best buddy Gordon, who, unfortunately for me, lives a few hundred miles from me.

I also have seen Gino twice at the River Rock Casino in Richmond BC, which is a terrific venue with scintillating sound, a must for any Gino fan when next possible.
It is a small theatre setting with state of the art acoustics.

Comments, Reviews and Opinions: Before the release date like in Pre-fun:

[1]: The editors type this live behind the computer on Tuesday morning 27 January 2009 time 7am while listening to Radio 538 "Everts staat op" (Everts awakes)

Already a few GINO VANNELLI announcements and Edwin Everts said that Gino Vannelli is rehearsing in the next studio, Edwin also said: "What a voice!!!" At 7:55am GINO starts with A GOOD THING. My, oh my immediately goose-bumps and wet eyes, incredible bluesy voice with a jazzy touch a real live radio version and different of course from the album version. And Bert van den Brink behind the piano makes everything even more swinging and very impressive... What a sound!

Clemens van der Feen on Bass and Hans van Oosterhout on drums guide and play Gino through the song with glorious music notes... SOOOOOO GOOD!!! PURE MUSIC!!! GINO VANNELLI MUSIC!!!

8.40am PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE in the most jazzy, funky way we ever heard WOW!!!! Even the DJ Edwin Everts is very surprised and says something about the high quality music which is happening in his studio. And he is a singer and musician himself! The radio people are very impressed and than we write it down in a very simple way... AWESOME, COOL and super quality what can we write more?? It's now 9am time for the news and Edwin says that in the next hour Gino Vannelli will sing a new piece from His new album and Wild Horses and they wonder what version??? The radio people in the studio try to sing the original version of WILD HORSES but aaarrrrgggghhhhh!!! Edwin Everts says that they have to leave the singing entirely to GINO!!!

After the news Edwin Evers asked Gino a few questions and Gino did THE MEASURE OF A MAN and this radio version was so good that we forgot to type live... Gino said: "It's a true story, read the lyrics." GINO VANNELLI'S VOICE WAS SUPERB AGAIN so very early in the morning live on the Dutch Radio 538. BIG compliments to GINO VANNELLI and Bert van den Brink and Clemens van der Feen and Hans van Oosterhout, guys you are good, very good... You brought more joy in people's lives today! some of the questions of the DJ were stupid again! they did not do their homework very well but in general the radio people were honoured to have Gino in their studio and were impressed by His music and His voice and that's A GOOD THING...

9.40am a short version of WILD HORSES... Wild Horses could not drag me away from you...FROM YOU!!! Super Jazzy, funky and again Gino's voice is divine! A nice jazzy Tuesdaymorning...

The DJ asked something like: This is a new cd in 10 years??? Huh??? Frits Spits also said this on Radio 2 while they played THESE ARE THE DAYS in 2006 and on radio 2 THESE ARE THE DAYS was cd of the week. So they read notes from a piece of paper from the people who do not do their homework very well! Aaaarrrgggghhhhhh!!!!!!!! The dj also said that the release date for the new album is 8 February 2009 and the editors have 11 February 2009 as the latest date so let's hope this DJ is right!

This was again a glorious morning with GINO VANNELLI's music in the Dutch air, live can be so beautiful especially when you can ENJOY music, good music, because non-musicians like the editors need this music to relax in this CRAZY LIFE!!!
BRAVO FOR GINO VANNELLI and His Musicians: Bert van den Brink, Hans van Oosterhout and Clemens van der Feen!

Gino Vannelli in the studio of Radio 538.

The Measure of a Man...

A GOOD THING...

[3]: Nederlands/Dutch: Een e-mail d.d.

[3]: English/Engels: An e-mail dated Tuesday 27 January 2009 from Isabel in Amersfoort, the Netherlands with the subject: Evers awakes

I had to hear Evers awakes... But how ??
Well, thank God I have my own office and no appointments before 10am so... The radio on and enjoy Gino's music. And in the meantime in between listening I worked on the schedule-lists which I had to do today and some phonecalls which I ended fast and abrupt.

It was very beautiful only that question about Gino's last cd 10 years ago... How do they come up with that stupid question.
This radio show made my day!

[7]:An e-mail 21 January 2009 from Terry in Pittsburgh, United States of America with the subject: Rythmn and Rhyme

Wow, it's been almost 1 year since I told Gino how much I enjoyed listening to him sing but that I realllllly wanted to hear him recite his poetry. He seemed a little surprised or maybe glad that his fans were sooooo receptive to this different art form from him but he mentioned that he was going to add some of the poems to his cd. I was sitting in the backseat behind him and just yelled, "What???" He and Ken just started laughing. I didn't think this day would ever get here!!! (What takes sooo long?) Haha!! I couldn't believe then or now how fortunate we are. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! T.

Dear Barend and Trees,
Great exciting updates about the new cd and that is, A Good Thing for us Gino devotes!!! Better yet, a FANTASTIC thing but Gino is humble so we will go along with Good.

I will be reading daily for the upcoming concerts and hope some of them will be here in the states. The information is a little confusing about the radio shows. Will they be in Holland or in the states?? We will stay tuned...
Thank U, Cyndi

Dear friends:
As always, your enthusiasm is so contagious!
Reading your reports after a concert is so gratifying, and you make us feel a little bit as if we were there. You describe your emotions and feelings in such a way, that you make our souls smile!

Thank you deep from my heart for sharing your experiences so accurately, just after the concert. We Gino fans are so lucky to have you both! I love the "new" old pictures you've been posting in the guestbook.

I'm still patiently waiting for the new CD and keep my prayers for a concert in Mexico.
Hugs and kisses and the biggest THANK YOU from a true Gino's music addict. Maru.

[12]:An e-mail dated Monday 2 February 2009 from Jules in Philadelphia, USA with the subject: From the cd-book links web page where you can find a link to order Gino Vannelli's A GOOD THING...

Hi Trees and Barend,
It's Jules from Philadelphia. Sorry I don’t keep in touch but as you know life seem to keep me busy. Thanks for keeping up with Gino….His music carries me so many days, the good, the boring and the tough days. Without his voice, words and music I probably would have gone crazy by now.

I'm writing because there is no news here in the US about the new CD and book Gino has created. Do you know of any place here in the US that is offering it??? Not even Amazon.com has it and they usually and new releases posted for pre orders..But there is nothing posted. If you don't know of anyplace here would you be willing to buy me a copy in in English and mail it me. I would of course pay for the CD and book, shipping and your time. If your willing to buy and mail the CD/book I will mail you the funds or I can wire the money anyway you want…do you use Pay-Pal or would you like a US money order or check. Just let me know and send it right away.

Have new Gino music is like have a breath of new fresh air!

Respectfully, Jules

Gino Vannelli

Dear Barend and Trees:
You said you were curious how I feel about Gino's new CD.....well, if the clip on your website of "The Measure of a Man", is any indication as to what we have to look forward to, then WOW!!!!

My only problem, is that I take about a 3 or 4 mile walk every day, wearing my iPod (loaded with Gino's music, of course), and I may suddenly start dancing down the street while listening to that song!! My neighbors may think I'm crazy.....but at least it should give them a good laugh! I think the cover of the CD and poetry book are both beautiful, but honestly........you can't go wrong with photos of Gino.

WOW!!!! Ken and I were able to hear Knight of the Road on the radio!!
We were at class all morning but I was able to sneak a computer on a little after 9:00 am and we heard the announcer mention Black Cars then Gino Vannelli!! They then played the song. Fantastic!!!!!!!!

I loved the verse about letting go of the past - dancing around the fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The music and lyrics were great. We just wish we could have heard any others they played. But we can wait another couple weeks......

[27]:An e-mail from Lisa in Arizona, USA dated 18 January 2009 with the subject: His music is very powerful!

Hello to the indefatigable keepers of the Gino Vannelli flame, Barend and Trees!
How your heads must spin at times with so much to keep up with on your website, and with how much you have had to re-create after the terrible computer hacking, or whatever it was, that messed up your website. As you should know by now, your "shameless devotion" is much appreciated by many Gino Vannelli fans.

It is very exciting to hear the bits and pieces of news as the release of DutchBeat/Fall Flower/Knight of the Road draws closer. I am anticipating a great work. I am also enjoying the older photos fans are sending in of Gino, back in the day with his flowing tresses and angelic good looks! In another place and time, I could see him posing for Botticelli or Michaelangelo.
Sincerely, Lisa V.

Hello Barend and Trees,
I just read the lyrics to, Measure of a Man.
The first impression was, "when did this episode take place in Gino's adventurous life as a great musician?"

I'm sure Gino has seen and heard it all!
It will be interesting to read some of his poetry and try to make sense and interpret what He, the poet, has written.
I know whatever Gino has written comes from his innermost thoughts.
His greatness in song will also be recognized in his writings.
His beautiful voice will be heard in his poetry. I am anxious to order his cd and poetry book!!

Something else that I couldn't help but notice...
Gino is wearing yellow and black in his picture.
Does that mean??
Could he be?? OK Gino, just wear the same clothes this Sunday for me.
Cyndi from Pittsburgh, Pa.

hi barend and trees,
i noticed the cd is not being released in denmark until june.
is that the same for holland as well?

A few words from the Editos (B&T): Cyndi, in Europe we write the dates in the otherway first the day than the month and than the year so you probably saw 6-2-2009 and in the USA it means 2 June 2009 and in Europe it means 6 February 2009. That's the reason! The real release date in Holland became Friday the 13th 2009... Thanks and bye... bye... B&T dated Thursday 19 February 2009.

[33]:Another e-mail from Jacques in Paris, France Thursday 29 January 2009 with the subject: o it s jacques the NLSTORE buyer...lol lol lol

hello les amis,
yes i m very impatient to have in my hands this new and probably very beautiful piece of art. Don t believe people saying that the cd medium is dead, that s completely false. Here in France like in most countries around the world the cd's sales aren't increasing a lot (you could imagine why..) but some artists have understood that if you package your album with a book or adding a dvd or some single vinyls (like in the good old times) people is ready to pay the price for a beautiful collector edition. Some artist are packaged by very famous designers who includes in the booklets some original artwork. At the final you have at the same price a very high quality audio production of the master of music and a nice art printing around it. It s not enough? Gino had written some poems for our long nights in the bed trying to understand all the subtilities of the english manguage lol lol ...

So all around the world don t miss this piece of art and BUY IT.

Merci les amis and do not forget piracy is the death of the artist and second the death of Art. And if your are living without art it s like you were trying to live without air or water or flowers or love.

Let s go les amis order your copies it s the best way for a new Gino production in the future (yes i want more and i want a dvd too)
Best regards les amis and have a nice day
Jacques

[36]:An e-mail from Jane in the USA dated Tuesday 3 February 2009 with the subject: RE: radio interview

Good Afternoon B&T,
Thanks so much for taking the time for me!

I was able to tune in to the second radio show you had listed on Saturday the 30th….it was great hearing him live on the radio! I wondered if possibly the radio station there would be able to play the recording again or offer it on their website for the fans to hear. It might be worth asking about. I will try to send them an email and ask them about it (hopefully they will be able to read and answer in English!)

I will be getting the new cd for my birthday (next week) but I think I will wait until it is available in the U.S.; do you have any idea how much longer we have to wait over here to purchase it at some place like Amazon.com? Will it be offered on His website? I would rather purchase it from Him if possible.

By the way, you are NOT too stupid for anything! Your website is wonderful! The graphics are fantastic, the constant updates and accurate information you report for all of us fans is priceless. We would be lost without you!
Thanks a million…..Jane

[37]: Nederlands/Dutch: Een e-mail d.d. Woensdag 4 Februari 2009 van Wil Spelbos uit Utrecht in Nederland met het onderwerp: "A Good Thing"

Hallo Barend & Trees.

[37]: English/Engels: An e-mail dated Wednesday 4 February 2009 from Wil Spelbos in Utrecht, Holland with the subject: "A Good Thing"

Hello Barend and Trees,
It was again enjoyment and happyness with Gino on the radio, I listened in a state of great tension to Gino's live performance on Radio 538 with Edwin Evers.

The sound was fantastic even on this early hour of the day for Gino, we could not hear it. Super !!!!

I am much more curious and anxious for the new cd. The Measure of a Man swings like crazy to say it in the Dutch way, I hope Gino will sing this song in Tivoli too.
See you on Thursday, love Wil.

Can you help me understand this?
Thanks and I hope all is well.

A word from the editors B&T: Here is an example of a Danish order confirmation but we have to tell you we cannot translate it because we do not speak or write Danish we have the Dutch language from Holland!

We know Tak means Thank you very much! That's it.
The prices in Danish money Danish Kroner DKK 139,95 is about 19 Euro = 25 USA$$$
Postage in Danish Money Danish Kroner DKK 54.00 is about 8 Euro = 10 USA$$$

Don't know if you have to add tax or not but we think you have to pay at leasy $40 USA Dollars for this cd-book and IT'S SO WORTH WHILE!!!! And a release date for the far away countries is not a nice story yet! So if you still have $40 somewhere, order A GOOD THING in Holland, the Netherlands or in Denmark. Whereever you want and we can tell you it's safe. Here is the A GOOD THING links web page! The editors B&T dated 21 February 2009. Back to messages number 38 - 43 and 55

Thank You B & T for keeping all of us up to date on GINO'S New Masterpiece, A GOOD THING, it is certainly A PERFECT THING!!

I've only heard the clip of The Measure of a Man that you provide and I Love the Sound of Latin Jazz Mix to this.. Coming from a Hispanic/Latin background, I cant help to MooooVE to this song! and my husband just loves it too! He says, GINO is right on with the name and music of this song.

GINO continues to be his Best and more in all that he does...He is Absolutely Amazing! Can't wait to hear the entire CD and read his Poetry. Just wondering when it will be released is the U.S.for purchase? (Amazon, Music & book stores) Also, how about radio air time such as XM/SeriusSatellite Radio () so that many of us across the states can listen?
HUGE HUGS,
Melissa & Joe A. TEXAS (you may post this email)

[44]: Nederlands/Dutch: Een e-mail d.d.

Groetjes, Eveline

[44]: English/Engels: An e-mail from Eveline in Amstelveen, The Netherlands Friday 13 February 2009 with the subject: CD release A GOOD THING

Hi Barend and Trees,
I am going to try to buy the new cd at the Bijenkorf in Amstelveen at lunchtime.
And after the next concert I will ask Gino to sign it if He wants to. Paradiso was TOP again but The Magogo concert in Tilburg was still the very special and unique concert. At that concert we heard A GOOD THING for the very first time and with Bert on piano, JUST FANTASTIC!
Thanks for all the tips!
Kind regards, Eveline.

Hello guys.
I'm jealous Gino spends so much time in u'r part of the world with 1 of a kind type concerts.

How can I purchase the new CD? Even his website doesn't mention it. I'm in the US and a fan since the 70's. I don't have the 2008 Jazz Festival CD as well and would like to purchase it. Also, if there are videos compatible with North America players - I'd love 2 purchase.

[48]:An e-mail from Kara in Texas, USA dated Tuesday 17 February 2009 with the subject: re Gino's new CD

I checked one of the Dutch CD places on your website--Plato, I think--and it was $18.95 in Euro--do you know how many US dollars that is? Is it safe to use that website to get this cd (and I assume the booklet comes with it)?

I was wondering if I should wait until it is released in Canada and order on Amazon.ca....do you know when it will be released in Canada? I'd like to order the Cd/booklet but don't know how much it actually costs.

[49]:An e-mail from Tom G. Location: USA, Indiana, South Bend. Dated Wednesday 18 February 2009 with the subject: From the A GOOD THING web page number 6 with reviews and comments...

First, thank you soooo much for keeping us all updated on Gino.
My wife and I went to Vegas in November and was blown away at his concert and was able to meet him.
I have heard a rumor that he is coming back to Vegas in late May (YES!).

Just keep us abreast of how, when and where we can get this new CD of Gino.
Going to drive me crazy till I get it in my hands.

[50]:An e-mail from Mark H. in Oregon, USA, dated Wednesday 18 February 2009 with the subject: Hi

Hi Barend and Trees,
See Gino has the new cd out.
I heard the single. Very good song.
Had to laugh at the pics from video clip.
It's like a 1984 MTV flashback. lol
Hope things are going good for you both.

Lots of changes finally over here in the states.
Hopefully things are going to get better. We'll see.

I really like the cover pic of the new cd.
Remember how terrible that Slow Love CD picture was.
Since then all his cd cover pics have been really good I thought.
Are you going to travel Europe and take in all the live concerts for this new tour?

My brother did finally get to see Gino in Vegas the past few years and thought the shows were fantastic. Especially those first shows he did in Vegas at the first casino. I guess the crowd was exceptional as was Gino.

Well it's been some time I don't check the websites nearly as much as years ago but it's great you both are still helping spread the word for Gino!
Take Care, Mark

Love ya, Cyn

P.S. Thanks for the great links. Can't wait to see him saunter through on the video clips on YouTube.

[53]:An e-mail from Melissa A. in Texas USA dated Saterday 21 February 2009 with the subject: Ordered 'A GOOD THING"

Dear B & T
I know you are extremely busy with the GOOD THING and your absolute devotion to your humble hobby, You are wonderful !
I just wanted to tell you that if you ever have the chance and you want to have good laugh with Gino, as all the good times you share; show him that Post, at ginovannelli.info. or this one. Gino just might remember that short story..? I'm sure Gino has heard and seen a lot a times, but this was a "Cute Thing" to remember and so special. It's really great to see that my nephew has continued to carry Gino's music through out his life, as I have since the age of 7. Can't wait to see and hear Gino perform once again here in the states!
Get Rest and Be Well,
Huge Hugs, M.A./Texas

I cut and pasted for you and Gino.

Dear Barend and Trees:
Yes! I can't stand it any longer.
All the wonderful comments from the fans, before and after show pictures; seeing Gino with much Joy on his face. That glorious smile and Happiness says it all ! I just ordered 4 cds from plato.nl last night I couldn't wait for the release dates here in the U.S. Two are gifts to special brothers,(I have 6), and a special nephew, now 27 that grew up listening to Gino's music, as I did, thanks to his father, my brother.

Another is going to another brother that listened with his headphones to Gino every night, two favorites, the "Gist of Gemini, and Pauper in Paradise." Gino is so special in so many ways to people across this world.. The special nephew I'm giving this cd to once met Gino in the mid 90's here in Dallas' Jazz Fest, Yonder Tree days, and he and his mother told Gino a very very funny but true story. They told him, he was almost named after Gino when he was born because his dad, my brother, was his # 1 Fan ! Had he not been the 4th generation to take my grandfathers name, my nephew's great grandfather, he then would of been named "Gino" Gino just smiled heavenly as he gave his autograph. It meant a lot to my nephew to meet this Grand Man of Music. He lives with this story and admires our devotion to his music. The two brothers still await to meet Gino some day; they hold the earlier concerts in memory as if it was yesterday, and they admire my picture with Gino at the Nov. 22, 08 show in New Orleans. I know , they will cherish this new cd especially with extra Poetry to be read. We wait patiently for the cds to arrive.

So much Euphoria in the air!

Thank you once again for all your dedicated work, your love and devotion for Gino and his Amazing Music; no words can express his creations, only complete Brilliance, and that it is a GOOD THING and Beyond!

HUGE HUGS from TEXAS

Hi there~
I am patiently waiting for my CD but no news yet on any arrival date.
If I send you some cash can you get one and mail it to me?
I hate to ask but I can't get an answer from the web site since I don't know Danish language.

I understand if you can't but I thought I would ask just to see if you can get an extra one and mail it to me. I hope all is well and you are having fun seeing all the great Gino shows near you.
Miss you both,

[61]:An e-mail from Mary W from Ohio, USA dated Monday 23 February 2009 with the subject: Hello dear Gino Vannelli fans and Friends,

Hi Barened and Trees!
I haven't talked to you in a while. How have you been? Thank you for all you do to promote Gino's work internationally... if it were not for you, I would never have the opportunity to order the new CD-book . I have already ordered mine and wait impatiently for it to come. I used a link from your website that was only in Dutch, but I managed to do it with a language translator. I have since recieved email from them that "A Good Thing" with come this week!!!!!.... I am so happy....

[62]:Another e-mail from Kara in Texas,USA dated Monday 23 February 2009 with the subject: New CD

YOU GUYS ARE SO SPECIAL! I will send the cash to you in a card, but I am also sending you a box that contains something I hand made for both of you as a thank you for all the times you have gotten Gino's things for me. (I would send Gino something too but I'm sure the man has everything under this sun and wouldn't really want something a fan made, but please tell him THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart when you see him again.) If it weren't for you guys, we in the States would have a really hard time ever knowing what Gino was doing and we sure would have trouble buying the CD's that's for sure! You guys are life-savers!

You are making me feel very bad and guilty about asking you to have Gino sign it for me...I really do not want to make any extra work for you (or Gino) and I apologize if it was a real inconvenience. I had to ask though because the odds of me getting to see Gino in person and have him sign it are slim to none...THANK YOU AND GINO for doing this for me! I guess from reading your website and seeing all the pictures of you at Gino's concerts (and you guys driving him to some places) I thought you lived very near Gino and were neighbors. I am so sorry if this was a problem for you.

I'm excitedly waiting for the CD and booklet--I know it will be awesome! Thanks again! Kara

[63]:Another e-mail from Patti in New York,USA dated Tuesday 24 February 2009 with the subject: New CD

I asked you for a favor and you came thru right away.
I can return the favor. Money is tough these days and you didn't blink and eye to help me out.
I will repay you and give a little extra for the Gino fund.

I do appreciate you both and all that you do, not just for me but for all of the Gino fans out there looking for info and pictures.
You both are very special and I hope you know you have special places in our hearts.
Thanks again,
Patti

[64]:Another e-mail from a happy Kara in Dallas, Texas, USA dated Tuesday 24 February 2009 with the subject: Gino's new CD

yes, if you would please send me one I would very much appreciate it.
Just tell me what the final price will be and then I will send you cash....you are so thoughtful to do this! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I know you have a million things to do besides sending me this little cd, but it means the world to me since we can't get it over here.
(I know Gino is swamped but any chance he could sign it for me?)
Kara

[65]:An e-mail from Lisa in Arizona, SA dated Tuesday 24 February 2009 with the subject: I do not believe the life of a musician is glamorous!

Dear Barend and Trees, It was very nice to hear from you, and please do not apologize for not emailing sooner. I know how busy you are with the Gino website, not to mention working and living your lives, so I never except to hear from such busy people. You two are obviously very kind and thoughtful and I would hate to impose a burden of expecting a reply.

No, I do not believe the life of a musician is glamorous! I used to be friends with a jazz pianist, a very gifted man, but nowhere near the commercial and artistic success level of Gino Vannelli, and this man I knew works very hard and is very poor. I have really enjoyed seeing the photos you have posted of the fans in the Netherlands waiting for autographs from Gino. I enjoy seeing the excitement in their faces. I especially liked the set of photos shot from the angle of being behind the desk where Gino was signing pictures. It was a great angle to get the reactions of the fans as they waited, and they are photos full of joy. Indeed it is joyous to meet someone who's music has meant so much to you. Your photos capture that very well. I hope Gino treasures them, and I hope it is a comfort to him as I can imagine how tiring it must be, and he is so generous with his fans! There are a lot of performers who do not do autograph sessions like he does. I can also imagine how tiring it must be for his wife. My husband has been working 12-hour days and half-days on Saturdays for several months now and I miss seeing him. So I can imagine how Gino's wife feels. I think it would be difficult for me to not feel some amount of jealousy or resentment if I were in her place.

I have not yet ordered Gino's new album package. I am hoping that some U.S. fans who have ordered it successfully will perhaps post on your guestbook about which company they bought it from, and then I would feel more secure in doing that. I am anxious to hear it, and also to read the poetry!!

So, dear Barend and Trees, I wish you good health as well, and hope that you are blessed with everything you need to follow your dreams. Once I am able to listen to A Good Thing, I will be sure to send you my impressions.
Thank you for your kindness, Lisa

Are you going to travel Europe and take in all the live concerts for this new tour?
My brother did finally get to see Gino in Vegas the past few years and thought the shows were fantastic. Especially those first shows he did in Vegas at the first casino. I guess the crowd was exceptional as was Gino.

Well it's been some time I don't check the websites nearly as much as years ago but it's great you both are still helping spread the word for Gino!
Take Care, Mark
