dated Monday 15 Juni 1998. by Barend and Trees in Holland,
who visited for the very first time a YellowJackets / Metropole Orchestra concert in Breda, Holland.
Wow!!!! How intens, how swinging, how beautiful, how impressive, how wonderful, how fabulous, how enjoyable, how emotional and how FANTASTIC!!
What a harmony, what a melodies, what a music and what a lot of musical talented people and what a kick we got from this live concert with the YELLOWJACKETS and the Metropole Orchestra!!!
WOW !!!!!!! A REAL BIG AND HONEST WOW!!!!!
We only know Jimmy Haslip, the Bass-Guitar player because of his work with GINO VANNELLI, Jimmy's famous and special bass sounds.
We went to this concert because Patt Conneen recommended it and he knows because he is a real YellowJackets fan and expert!
The vibes to the audience were HEAVY and very, very GOOD!!!
We have to be very honest and say we did not know the YellowJackets's music, only Jimmy Haslip's work with GINO VANNELLI as we told you before.
Russel Ferrante, the man behind the grand-piano was very, very SUPERB !! He reminded us of OTMARO RUIZ, The Master of the grand-piano!!!
Anyways, back to Russel Ferrante, we had to laugh and smile the way he made faces and the way he had so much fun, was incredible!!
What a Man, what a Personality and what a great MUSICIAN.
The Drummer drummed the stars from Heaven and the Sax and Clarinet were just touching!!!
4 GREAT SUPERB MUSICIANS real GINO VANNELLI kind of QUALITY!!
We have never ever seen so many GOOD Musicians on one stage at the same time with happy faces and eyes
and glorious grins!!!
We could see that very good because we had front row seats right in the middle in front of Vince Mendoza
, the GREAT CONDUCTOR!!
We could feel the LOVE for music in the air, they all played with their hearts for sure!!! The Bass-Guitar of Jimmy Haslip hit us in the heart and the way he played with his heart was fantastic and we have never ever heard that before except for the Canadian Bass-Guitar
player ALAIN CARON, who played with GINO VANNELLI too!!
All the Musicians of the Yellowjackets played their solo parts in a way that is difficult to explain in the English language.
WE CAN ONLY SAY WOW!!! AGAIN over and over again.......................
You all know we are NO Musicians and we do not have any idea or knowledge about musical instruments etc.......but this was too beautiful, with so many violins, flutes and saxophones and so many other and different musical instruments.
In this Metropole Orchestra were about 40 to 50 Musicians without the YellowJackets, they were with 4 Musicians.
So for us both it was overwelming in a very positive way and very impressive,
such a BIG orchestra and all that music live on stage.
This is only a review from NON-EXPERTS but from real MUSIC-LOVERS!!! We only say and write what we feel.
THANKS TO : Patt Conneen, OTMARO RUIZ, GINO VANNELLI and the webmaster of the:
YELLOWJACKETS WEBSITE, Neil Rudish and Gery Puhara, we had the chance to buy tickets and see and hear this live on stage SUPERB concert!!!
We remember they played : "Room with a view" and a musical piece of "Blue Hats" and also an African dedicated masterpiece called : "Capetown".
And we remember : "Statue of Liberty".
We heard sounds of music from all over the world, African, Latin, Jazz, Fushion but also Classical sounds.
With one tune the violins started to play and the goose-bumps crawled over our bodies and this part immediately remembered us of : A ROSE IN DECEMBER by GINO VANNELLI, for a short while, so you all can imagine how beautiful this musical part was.
The audience was cooking and the Musicians received a few standing ovations!!!
The YellowJackets thanked the audience and also the Musicians of the Metropole Orchestra many times.
And ofcourse they came back for an "ENCORE".
The great SAX-PLAYER Bob Mintzer made some jokes about the Dutch bad weather, it rained like hell for a few days already and he said sorry that our soccer team did not win last night from Belgium, but he was also happy that they did not win, because than they maybe had no audience at all, because the whole of Holland was partying and they had to play for an empty concert-hall.
Very nice Guys!!!
And we thank them for sharing their talents and music with us.
During the break we said to eachother, we are always thinking the same things as usual, WE MISS ONE BIG IMPORTANT "SOMETHING"
AND THAT WAS : GINO VANNELLI's VOICE !!!!
We bet this should be a dream come true for GINO (And for us too ofcourse!!!We are so selfish!!)
We feel this is dream for GINO to perform live with such a big orchestra and the YellowJackets and ofcourse with this Conductor Vince Mendoza!!!
WOW!!!! One day it will happen for GINO VANNELLI we are sure.
We hope we explained this all right to you and that you all can feel what we mean with our feelings of our visit to this live concert.
Our excuses for our bad English writing but we did our very best!!
If this project ever comes to Holland again we are the first ones to buy tickets for sure.
WAY TO GO.......... YELLOWJACKETS!!!!!!
