Friday 11 May 2007 Workshop/Masterclass: Gino Vannelli ART OF SONG ***

Gino Vannelli teached the people in the audience with passion about the ART OF SONG.
Here are a few lines we (the editors B&T) could register in our brains:

  • An artist must have a strong opinion, good or bad.
  • Study traditions, believes, religions, politics and get inspired by different subjects.
  • Philosophy - books - nature - poets - Walt Whitman.
  • The importance of a title.
  • First lyrics or first music and a title much later but it can go the other way around too.
  • Even the first line or sentence can become the last sentence or line.
  • Create themes.
  • Linear - non linear - bridges.
  • Writing is a sexual experience.
  • An artist must have BIG ears.
  • Art and commerce are important to know.
  • Gino told the people the Herb Alpert story in a VERY detailed way. Gino also told about Quincy jones and Joe cocker and Gino's humble beginning of recording.

Just a few lines we picked up as non-musicians and than Gino told the story of a boy in the city where Gino lives. Gino and His Family saw this kid on the bike many times. Gino remembered His happy face and always smiling and now he was gone...

This young boy (21 years old) was killed in Afghanistan as an American soldier and Gino was invited to sing and to play the grand-piano on the kid's memorial service... Gino was pretty nervous about this and he showed the people in the audience of the workshop how his hands and fingers shaked above the keys of the grand-piano. The reality of life was very close now... Sadness, pain and despair was in the room and Gino sang "None So Beautiful As The Brave".
Only Gino Vannelli, His voice and the grand-piano...

We all know the genuine passion in a Gino Vannelli performance, so imagine this situation... The Family and friends of this boy were very impressed and felt a kind of warmth and comfort by the meaningful beauty of this song and the honour was deep.

Gino is pleased and satisfied now that He sang at this kids memorial service.

Yes, Gino Vannelli jumps behind the grand-piano of the workshop and sang "None So Beautiful As The Brave" live!!!
Only Gino Vannelli, His voice, and the grand-piano...

This Gino Vannelli workshop was in the same chapel as the poetry performance on Sunday with Michiel Borstlap... The ultimate superb musical experience ever... "None so beautiful as the boy who cries freedom"

Houdini Horns: Gino Vannelli & the Houdini Horns on Saterday 12 May 2007 at the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Plein right in front of the Churh ***

Slide show called: Houdini Horns Soundcheck with 40 pictures.

Slide show called: Gino Vannelli & the Houdini Horns concert with 20 pictures.

COMMENTS, WORDS and REVIEWS about the Gino Vannelli & the Houdini Horns open air concert:

A few words from the editors B&T:
SET LIST: Not in the right order and we mention the Gino Vannelli songs which we can remember. So many impressions to proceed in our brains in one weekend... When you know more songs Gino did with the Houdini Horns please e-mail us and we will post it overhere... We know the Houdini Horns started with 3 of their own musical pieces and Gino jumped in during the 4th song with BROTHER TO BROTHER! Amazing performance ofcourse and the audience was impressed and yelled!!! The square was packed with people and the weather stayed very good during Gino Vannelli's show.

BROTHER TO BROTHER - HURTS TO BE IN LOVE - DON'T GIVE UP - PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE and than this big surprise song : WOMAN ON TOP which made the people in the audience scream and react. You have to hear and feel it to give your opinion. Our opinion is always good of course but this song made us really smile and growl at the same time. Gino performed this song in a great way with the Vannelli quality voice in different levels also with a little bit bluesy sound and country/folk sound. Anyways.... SUPERB!!! A few lines which we remember:....

She’s a woman on top
S’ where she wanna be
Like a hot and heavy cowgirl
She keep’ ridin’ me
She’s a lady of means
Not only in the hay
But a mama in the saddle
In every way

Groet, Paul Wekker

ENGLISH/ENGELS: An e-mail dated 14 May 2007 from Paul W. in Holland with the subject: Gino Barend & Trees,
You are obvious Gino-fans.
I saw Him perform yesterday evening in Amersfoort and I have to admit: A Very impressive performer.

If I remember well He had a conflict at the end of the 70's with his record company or management and because of this conflict His carreer went into a decline. Do you know exactly what happened? That intrigues me. Greet, Paul Wekker.

Is ie misschien gescheiden?

ENGLISH/ENGELS: An e-mail dated 16 May 2007 from Michiel & Marloes in Holland with the subject: GINO VANNELLI on the jazzfestival Amersfoort

Hi Barend & Trees,
We liked it a little bit or better said nice that we were able to see and hear it.
And the Houdini Horns swing very well.
But do you think that such a jazzy hornsection suits Gino Vannelli's music? We are sure Gino himself does like it very much because why is he arranging like crazy in that way. But OK he experiments a lot with arrangements and not always to our happyness! Our most favorite way is Gino Vannelli with his own old-fashioned powerful band without the whole orchestral thing.

The performance of Hurts To Be In Love was farout the very best! That new song was too complex for us but our feelings tell us that you have to listen to Vannelli songs more often to appreciate it.

We are sure you know more about Gino staying in Holland?
Why is he here?
Where are His Wife and Son? Maybe he is divorced? And last but not least why Amersfoort of all places? Did you two already visit him?

Lieve groetjes, Tineke.

ENGLISH/ENGELS: An e-mail dated 22 May 2007 from Tineke in Holland with the subject: Gino

Hello Barend and Trees,
Did you two enjoy yourselves that much as I did on 12 May in Amersfoort, my, oh my, He was so great and fantastic and I had so many regrets about not be able to be there on the 13th of May. I searched for you two and I did speak to several couples but it were not you two, that's a pity! How fabulous that He lives so close by now, I assume you will meet Him very often now. Do you maybe know if there will be more small or intimate performances in the Netherlands besides the North Sea Jazz Festival? Sweet greetings, Tineke.

Soundcheck Gino Vannelli and the Houdini Horns.

ENGLISH/ENGELS: An e-mail dated 2 June 2007 from Jane in Holland with the subject: Gino 12 May 2007.

Hi Barend and Trees,
The concert was fantastic, and of course I was in the front row because I did not want to miss nothing...
I am completely in a silent shock when he starts singing.
No, I did not go to the chapel on Sunday, how was the concert?
I knew about that Sunday concert too late and we came home from Portugal that Saterdaymorning and I was so happy that we were right in time for the Gino/Houdini's concert. Did I hear it right that he already lives in Holland for a year?
Immediately I e-mailed my pictures to our host and hostess in Portugal, they are Gino Vannelli fans too and they loved it.

My Sister and me hoped we could make a picture with Gino but he was already gone too fast.
I am surfing to your site to see your pictures right now.
Does he really read his birthday wishes? That would be so fun and so nice.
Next time I am going to search for you two and introduce myself.
Many thanks for your reaction! Greetings from Jane and here are my 7 pictures:

JazzSlam Poetry: Gino Vannelli and Michiel Borstlap on Sunday 13 May 2007 in the St. Aegtenkapel (Chapel)

Gino Vannelli JazzSlam, click here for the enlarged pdf poster!!! PDF format or click here for jpg/jpeg format

COMMENTS, WORDS and REVIEWS about the JazzSlam:

A "few" words from the Editors (B&T)dated Monday morning 14 May 2007, who are still not landed in the real world again. We type this just before we have to go to the ORANGE in Rotterdam on Monday afternoon. This JazzSlam into Poetry was the best live performance ever! We saw and heard many Gino Vannelli performances, but this JazzSlam into poetry hit us deep and also most people in the audience. And we know we always say it's good or superb but this time we really, really mean it... ask all the 220 persons who were there and 100% will agree for sure. More words will follow also from other fans and music lovers and also the poetry lovers of course.

We remember 2 or 3 titles of Gino Vannelli's poems:
A Man and A dog
Love and Politics
Fall Flower

Songs we remember:
Brother to Brother
Gipsy Days
Wild Horses
These Are The Days

And many more... Please e-mail us when you remember more...

Gino Vannelli and Donja An e-mail with a Gino Vannelli recipe created by Donja after being inspired by Gino Vannelli & Michiel Borstlap's performance in the Chapel on Sunday 13 May 2007.

The recipe for the most perfect Sunday afternoon !

The Cake of Art.

You take a nice little chapel in Holland.
You fill it up with The Grandmaster of Music and Poetry and a beautiful Grand Piano.
You stir it very well.
Than you let it rise till de highest height.
You put about 220 people breathless audience in it and let it become more mature.
Than it is already perfect. But it is not totally finished yet.
You add a Great Pianoplayer to support the Grandmaster on the Grand Piano.
Finally you put a firm spoon with passion in it, a huge cup of emotions, lots of love and a splash humour.
You stir it one more time and it is ready.
It don´t need to bake, it is just perfect as it is.
Than you sit, take this food for mind and soul and enjoy. Taste the sweet poetry, feel the wonderful music and let yourself be free....

You understand that this cake can only made by one man....

The Cake of Art by GINO VANNELLI

Thank you Gino voor being there and for your big hug, it was more then welcome.
Lots of love, Donja

The sound was beautiful, the voice was fabulous, the air was relaxed, the songs were so very beautiful that I could get lost into admiration and last but not least the humour .... Geezzz we enjoyed it so very much !!

It's a pity we had to leave right after the show because 2 lonely girls expected us home. Well I jump into my bed now and I will mail again. Greetings from Isabel.

Anders hadden we nergens vanaf geweten.

Liefs, Donja en Mr.C. from Capelle...

ENGLISH/ENGELS: An e-mail dated 14 May 2007 from Mr.C in Holland with the subject: Ginooooooooooooo

Hi Barend and Trees,
It was a great weekend! I am still not landed on real grounds and still in a whirl of excitement. Gino was so good and Michiel too and than there is that humour, really fantastic! Saterday was top too and also the meeting with you two, but today was very, very special. Our friends were very, very impressed too, we were so happy that we told them about this special event. And again thanks to you two. Otherwise we could not have known about this. I also enjoyed it to know you two a little bit more and you two are very special.

How sweet of you that you went for a hunt to find us in that crowd and it was a pity that you could not find us. But today all came to a very good result, also thanks to the nagotiations of Barend.

First a picture with Gino and with Michiel. And later Carlos talked to Gino about me, that my name is Donja and that I am a big, big fan for years already and about the sporting. I thought something like: " Yeahhhh Gino is really waiting to hear that. But very unexpected Gino gave me a BIG HUG and a kiss in my neck! So immediately I kissed back, now or never!!! I do not know if you saw this happening and there is no picture about this spontaneous behaviour but that's all about a real spontaneous reaction. This are the very special things in life!!!

So you two still have a concert to go tomorrow, life of luxury! I really need to sober up. Thank God I only have to go to work tomorrow afternoon.

I attached a few more pictures but I do not know if they come out very well. Otherwise I will try it again tomorrow, I was a little bit clumsy. There are much more pictures but probably the same as you have already. And when you still have pictures with us can you please e-mail them when you have the time. Thanks in advance!

Ohhhhhhh, well, When you see me walking around with a dirty neck, you will know why, because I will not wash my neck for a while, hahahahaha!!!

We hope to see you soon again at a GINO concert! Love, Donja and Mr.C.

An e-mail from Werner and Edith in Germany dated 14 May 2007 with the subject: Hi friends

Hi friends,
it´s so frustrating to go back to the real world after a weekend with friends and Gino.
I´ll write our experiences to you this week.
I´ll send you one with the London and Amersfoort Photos then this week.
Edith said to me that you are the friendliest and most warm-hearted people we ever known. I think she´s right. Werner in Germany.

Woman On Top is echt een topper!!

ENGLISH/ENGELS: An e-mail dated 15 May 2007 from Jan and Anita in Holland with the subject: He is in a good state of mind!

Hello Barend and Trees,
My, oh my, what a weekend! It's a pity that "normal" life has to start again. Nice to talk with you two. Live talking is much more cosier than by e-mail.

Gino keeps on experimenting and renewing. You could say or think: "Where does He find the strength?" I think He really got started yesterday evening during People Gotta Move. Woman On Top is a real top hit!! It was obvious that He enjoyed Himself and had a great fun mind! I thought that this concert was more of a commercial obligation for Him. During an annoucement He also said something like: "A weird gig". But during this little concert He started to feel more fun and happyness. Totally super cool!

In a word: He is in a happy state, feels good and creates beautiful things. And at the end that's the most important!

Looking forward to the Northsea! Are you guys going to more concerts in between?
Kind regards, Jan and Anita

Look: our idol is just easily walking out the door. Bag on his shoulder. Two streets from where he's living. Just around the corner. Waaaaah... Liefs, Clem van Lunteren

ENGLISH/ENGELS: An e-mail dated 15 May 2007 from Clem van Lunteren in Holland with the subject: sunday

Hi mates,
Well... After years this was quit a big experience which is worthy one of my rankings. The last 10 years we were able to experience Gino many times also close by but now I realize that this is one of the most memorable and unforgettable. After this you do not wanna go to a big event anymore. (Bullshit of course.. but you will understand. The possibility we get to be so close, warm and intense with your idol and you can almost be certain to talk a little bit with Him or to make a picture with Him. And we could talk like it is a "normal" thing with His music Mate Michiel Borstlap just like we already know him for years. Mention other fans to me who can live through such a special event with their most favorite artist.

We start to think, almost lyrical or poetic: "We are really, really blessed and the chosen people" Well, Why not?? It was one big lyrical poetry spectacle.

Who can say like I said to Werner at the end: "Can you imagine? Look our idol is walking out off the door in a very relaxed way... Bag on his shoulder. Two streets from where he's living. Just around the corner.

Waaaaah...

ENGLISH/ENGELS: An e-mail dated 15 May 2007 from Wil en Rob Spelbos in Holland with the subject: Kicking!!! Kick the habit

Hello Barend & trees,
How are you doing? Are you two still feeling the kicks and also try to detox from the last couple of days? We are... after 3 days of Gino Vannelli parties. Today I had really the feeling of missing something. It was sooo SUPER !!!!

We saw a piece in the SpitsKrant newspaper about the Amersfoort Jazz Festival. In that piece they refer to a web site where people can see a short videoclip with impressions of the Amersfoort Jazz Festival. At the end it's Gino's turn with His workshop, we thought: "ohhhh nice..." But NO it's very negative for our feelings especially because of that so-called great woman Mrs. Jerney Kaagman, who sits there in Gino's workshop very, very uninterested. And to crown it all the very negative comments of the hostess, we were in total shock and defeated while watching this videoclip. How is it possible that someone does not like Gino's work???

If you want to see it here is a link to Spitsnet.nl but we warn you: This will not make you happy!

We rather keep on enjoying the beautiful memories of fun, emotions and fantastic touching moments from the last couple of days. And of course the meet & greet (however NOT with Gino) but with you two hahahaha...Greetings and see you soon. Rob and wil Spelbos.

Another e-mail dated 17 May 2007 from Donja in Holland with the subject: Gino in Holland...

GINO VANNELLI
The man and his music, they are my guide in life for many years.
Sometimes when I ask myself "Where Am I Going" He always makes me "Keep On Walking" trough this "Crazy Life" with his "Song And Dance", for me.

When I am feeling sad, he says; "Put The Weight On My Shoulders" ,it ain't no weight at all and he "Rock Me To Heaven" with his beautiful songs.

Now I "Gettin' High", so high because Gino The Master lives in Holland for a while and treats me with his wonderful poetry and his great songs, which feeds my soul.

On this moment I know where I am going, to all the man 's live concerts. "These Are The Days"! and oh no, "Wild Horses"can't drive me away from him.........

GINO, I hope you stay another while, although I can imagine that you miss your family very much....
Lots of love, Donja

An e-mail from Laetitia in London, U.K. dated 16 May 2007 with the subject: Hello from London!

Dear Trees and Barend,
Got back from work very late tonight. I hope you had a safe journey back home without too much traffic!

Thank you again for sharing some time with me over the week end and giving me some anecdotes/inside stories about what is really Gino’s work & life These moments felt intimate. I still have not “landed in the real world” myself if I may repeat what you wrote!…. That was very very special that Sunday’s concert; I believe Gino should do this type of “JazzSlam” more often, I mean Gino reading his work/poems/reflections, it feels quite uplifting and emotional at the same time. Or even reading other pieces of literature (that’s a good idea isn’t it?)

You are very down to earth people, I like that! Trees, I had a look at the “footsteps” page you mentioned, it’s quite fun to see that! And to people who do not “like”/criticize your site, give them that quotation as follows: “Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep” (from Scott Adams). I had some of Gouda with “komijn” for dinner! Dutch cheese is very tasty indeed! I will email you longer over the week end. How was Rotterdam concert on Monday evening?? I will be very pleased to hear from you. Bye for now. Yours musically, Laetitia

Het heeft me zo very, very happy gemaakt.

X Donja

ENGLISH/ENGELS: More beautiful words in an e-mail dated 17 May 2007 from Donja in Holland with the subject: Ginooooooo

Hey Barend and Trees,
I can really understand how tired you must be. We shall say: "Tired but happy or tired and satisfied." I am still in a super happy state of mind. And still not completely sobered up! Funny isn't it that such things can make you so very happy...... Everything was right this Sunday of 13 May 2007, the time and timing, the venue, the atmosphere, you could hear a pin drop because the audience was so quiet in anticipation of Gino's performance and what he should sing or recite. Usually people talk, cough etc... only this time a ringtone from a cell-phone and Michiel Borstlap immediately played along with this ringtone in a great and funny way.

And than at the end of all the beautiful things a big hug from Gino...... I did not jump out of my skin but I was total and complete flabbergasted because this was so unexpected but very welcome!!! This made me feel so very happy. I can go on for hours and hours but I need to go to sleep and you two have already so many things to do. I already told Carlos please do not expect a reply very soon because everybody starts to e-mail reactions and pictures, this were 3 concerts in one weekend...... So i think your reaction is still very quick!

And of course you may use my pictures and all my words in e-mails. I am going to sleep now with a big smile and sweet dreams. Greetings and sleep well, X Donja

An e-mail from Cor Dingena in Rotterdam, Holland dated 29 May 2007 with the subject: Gino Vannelli in Rotterdam and Amersfoort, Holland.

Dear Gino en Michiel,

On the moment I purchased my ticket for the "Poetry Gig" on Sunday of May 13, I didn't realise this gig would be held on Mothersday. 2 Weeks prior to this fabulous gig I did realised it was held on Mothersday, and I started to feel slightly oncomfortable. Because on that moment I already made my choice to be a part of that gig....but how to manage this with my Mother and wife?

Neverteheless, both my mother and wife forgave me, due to the fact that they both know how much I wanted to be a 0.5% share of it on that Sunday in Amersfoort (due to the fact that only 200 attendees could be a part of this very rare gig). So mom and Jannie, my apollogies and thanks!

Gino, Michiel, It was a great and unforgetable pleasure to be there!! Gino, thanks for joining me on the photo after the gig (see attachment and as you can see, Barend is watching us). Michiel, thanks for the nice chat we had and always willing to hold your glass of white wine, during the autographs for your fans. Hopefully we will have a lot of more gigs to come of you both!!
kind regards, Cor Dingena.

Zijn muziek raakt me meteen.

ENGLISH/ENGELS: An e-mail from Erwin Happel in Holland dated 1 June 2007 with the subject: A very special meeting with Gino Vannelli

Dear Barend and Trees,
A few weeks ago I was in the Aegtenkapel in Amersfoort when Gino performed with Michiel Borstlap. I cannot get this performance out off my mind and I cannot let it go... What a personallity and what a voice on His 55th age! I am already a fan for years and years. This started 17 years ago when I was 25 years old and started renting cd's for the very first time. Found His cd's and Gino's music grabbed me immediately. I thought it's a pity that I did not discover Gino Vannelli's music earlier. I already loved music with a jazzy touch but this music was very, very special.

After Gino's performances in "Vrije Geluiden" and "De Wereld Draait Door" and His latest cd which I bought recently, I am trying to learn more about His music and backgrounds. But what me really, really decided to widen my knowledge about Gino's music is the tv program "De Wereld Draait Door". I was sleeping with the tv on the background and was half awake when I heard some unknown music but I immediately knew that this was GINO VANNELLI. (Very emotional music for me which can touch me deep)

After this performance I surfed and searched the internet many times. First I arrived on the official Gino Vannelli web site but there was not much new information so at last I reached your web site, this was really a revelation for me. What an information and it made me happy to know that there are many more fans. I think I saw you Barend during the concert in the chapel but it did not happen to have a small conversation. I did speak with a man called Werner from Germany who I also saw on many pictures inside your Gino Vannelli web site.

Here is a picture of me during the concert in Amersfoort. I love to meet you two one day and learn more about Gino Vannelli. Maybe we can talk with eachother in Laren when Gino gives a concert there in September.
Kind regards, Erwin Happel, Goirle. Noord-Brabant.

ENGLISH/ENGELS: An e-mail from Marien in Amersfoort, Holland, Nederland dated 2 June 2007 with the subject: Gino Vannelli and me...

Hello Barend and Trees my name is Marien Meeuwisse, 51 years old and I am already a big fan for more than 30 years and a very big Gino Vannelli music-lover. I have all His work and my biggest wish was to see and hear Him live on stage. So I was very surprised that He came to Amersfoort for a concert. I myself live in Amersfoort and I almost felt from my chair when I heard that He lived in Amersfoort. So you will understand that this was my only chance to meet him. And that's why I was in front of the chapel on Sunday, smoking a cigaret, just before the concert, and guess what??? My idol Gino Vannelli came walking towards me and I asked Him if it was possible that He and me could go on the picture... He said: "No problem" and now there is a big frame with Him and me hanging in our livingroom. I enjoyed that day so much and WHAT A VOICE. He did not give in much through out all those years. I see your names many times in combination with Gino, can you tell me something about that? Greetings from Marien a Fan.

an e-mail from Laetitia in London, U.K. dated 2 June 2007 with the subject: Amersfoort feedback

Hi Trees & Barend,
I resent my previous email dated 15 may since I do not know whether you received it or not. Hope I have the correct email.

Here my new email:
A late feedback on the Amersfoort festival; I am very busy with work & when I get back home in the evening I do not really fancy to switch back the PC on! As I am not working from mid June for 4 weeks or so, I make up the work & money now…Finished work quite early tonight that is 20.00!!….. I get a chance to check emails then!

Funny how you get hooked”on your site! I never got a chance to look at it properly in the past but since I met up with you both in Amersfoort, I go on it more regularly (generally from work in the morning before it gets busy!

Trees, I did see the article on Gino's footstep; how sweet is that? Very nice! ) I discovered a bit more about Gino’s work und your truly & genuine passion for him/his achievement (Trees, the last few words of this sentence are for you!!). Talking about achievement, your site is fantastic, that’s unbelievable the time you must dedicate to it, between the update/literature/photos downloads etc... (as you can see I do not use the word “work” since for you it’s not really work as such is it? It’s wonderful to be passionate!

Still full of unforgettable memories from the Amersfoort Jazz Festival! Needless to say the Sunday JazzSlam session was breathtaking. The setting of the St Aegtenchapel, especially the vaulted ceiling, works perfectly with Gino’s voice & Michiel on the piano. He can sing everything really as he sings from his heart…. Gino & Michiel should do these type of Jazz music sessions more often, what do you think??

It was the first time I went to the Netherlands (do not count the 2 hour Amterdam tour from 10 years ago) & I can certainly say I discovered a very interesting & warm place. “Holland ” (so the French say!) is not confined to the old cliché of Amsterdam/cheese & tulips! You’re gonna laugh, it seems silly…..I learned that Gouda (the cheese!) is actually a town!… aren’t we learning something new everyday?! I really fell for Amersfoort town, it’s sooo pretty. It reminds me my home town in France, La Rochelle. Yes, we have cobbles street there as well…… I brought back loads of cheese from your country, the one with the “komijn” seeds is absolutely delicious. My partner & I like the goat cheese as well. I unfortunately now ran out of Dutch cheese, that’s a real pity!!

Last week end, guess what…….I found a copy of “Crazy life” (I now have 2 copies) yep & in mint condition. London is one of the best place for record hunting. Still trying really hard, (shall I write out “with despair”?) to find a copy of “Gina Bold”….

I have not downloaded the photos from my video camera since I do not have the facilities here. Once back home in France in 3 weeks time, I’ll send you the photos.

I might go to the workshop in Odense if this is confirmed. I spoke to someone at the Danish Academy of music & she confirms Gino is going over there. If I go I can give you some notes of some sorts of what has been said if you wish. Otherwise I’ll definitely find time to come to the Northsea festival mid July. I have not looked into it as yet. If you have any hotels or bed & breakfast to recommend I’ll appreciate your tips & help.

Hope you are well. It’s now time to play a bit of music (I fancy listening to “Brother to Brother” tonight) with a glass of wine……! Look forward to your feedback. Thank you for sharing. Shall I say “Dank u” Kind regards Laetitia.

An e-mail from Werner and Edith in Germany dated 14 June 2007 with the subject: that remarkable weekend in Amersfoort.

Hi all you crazy people,
first of all Happy Birthday Gino,
carry on with your new definition of an artists life.
We wish you everything you wish for yourselve and stay crazy on this planet Earth cause ....these are the days.
Edith and Werner

Well i´m back on the www. We´ve had a complete breakdown of internet and mailingsystems in our house in the week after Amersfoort. It took nearly 3 weeks to recreate all systems and cable disfunctions. I was´nt able to send our impressions and experiences from that remarkable weekend in Amersfoort. Here we go!

It is bad to seddle down in real life and work after highlights like that. Gino went to another higher level in combining a very special performance - music, poetry, storyteller, poems, soul and life surching, the meaning of being, the sence of song - creation, the art of music. He´s a real master in all that. The audience in the chappelle was allowed to get that spirit he´s able to sent out.. And there is "None So Beautiful" and the story behind the words. People cried. And he explained why it is like it is. Gypsy Days.

And then there was Entertainement too. The mood changes from sadness to fun. He created an athmosphere we´ll never forget. And it´s been the first time he sang and played Piano. He was so happy when he made fun with brother Michiel who played like a God of ebony and ivory. And then there was the melody of an cell - phone during Michiel playing an intro. He catched that melody in a second and played along the melody. Incredible -everyone laughed. Gino sang with an extraordinary passion and emotional power in that beautiful room of the small church. To us it´s been real heaven. And now we know who´s the most wanted Bachelor in the Netherlands. Gino told us. We ´ve enjoyed that early afternoon in the Saint Aegtenkapel. We will never forget.

After the performance everyone was in a scratchy and happy mood and they all had that shimmering eyes and smiling faces. It seemed to be everybody who stayed for to see them again after show. When they arrived it was a wave of applause. We were so happy to live that experience together with so many friends and fans we know over the Gino - years now. It was so good to be with Trees and Barend who are the most passionate and lovely people we´ve ever known. Can you imagine the happiness in everyones face? The evening before that was the short show with the Houdini Horns on the market - square of Amersfoort. Approximately 2000 people filled the square. It´s been a nice warm evening to stay outside. Gino and the Houdinis brought the heat to that place. A few versions they arranged like the Chicago Horns but a bit more jazzy. Gino filled Amersfoort with his entire voice and gave the conductor to the Houdinis. Very extraordinary style. The schedule of the Festival didn´t allow to do more music and the show was over in one click. The crowd wanted more. We too. And we´ve got more, much more on Sunday in the church.

See you all hopefully in Rotterdam at the North Sea Festival!!
Edith and Werner

NEDERLANDS/DUTCH: Een e-mail van Kerstin in Amersfoort, Holland, Nederland d.d. 6 Juli 2007 met het onderwerp: Gino Vannelli

Kerstin and her Husband and 3 Sons and yessss Gino Vannelli & Michiel Borstlap. Click on the picture to enlarge!!!

Fantastische combi!!

Dear Barend and Trees,
At last a message from me with an attachment of a Family picture made on Sunday afternoon 13 May 2007 in the Aegtenkapel/chapel. My whole Family with Gino and Michiel on this picture. This was a Mothersday which I will never ever forget! You two already described it on the world wide web...This was a very special concert and it took me also a few days to be back on this earth again... What a fantastic and happy event.

This Michiel Borstlap is also a fantastic and superb musician and he is a funny and nice man too. Those two have such a big chemistry... Those two meeting eachother was meant to be...Superb combination!!

The 12th of May was great too!!! Don't Give Up On Me... Touched me deep, what a beautiful song, It made me in deep silence. I really hope this song will be released on cd, wonderful...it still echo's in my mind.

I am still very impressed by the performance in my town of Amersfoort, my hometown where I was born, the place of my roots, where I played and listened to Gino Vannelli's music for the very first time in my attic-room. The city of Amersfoort where I found my first Gino Vannelli vinyl singles and LP's and that He performed there now in my city and even lived there!! Amersfoort of all places!!... Very special to me.
The kindest Summer greetings of Kerstin.

A slide show of Gino Vannelli & Michiel Borstlap at the JazzSlam This is the place for another Gino Vannelli slide show with about 40 pictures. This moment of poetry, Gino Vannelli's songs, voice and music mixed with Michiel Borstlap's sound of the grand-piano must be remembered and the people who were in this Chapel will hear Gino read His poem called "FALL FLOWER" while looking at this slide show... Gino was inspired by this wonderful colored flower He saw and touched in a little shop at the train station of Amersfoort and asked the seller the name of this real Dutch flower, the seller said this is a fall flower called Chrysanthemum.
