(1) : An e-mail from Mary Lou in the USA dated 11 July 2005 with the subject : GINO in Shawinigan & LaSalle...

A Big HELLO to All,
Finally I have some time to sit down and share my story about our FABULOUS! trip to Canada.

Let me first mention one of the best parts of the whole trip was meeting Gail and her brother Jess from Kansas City. They were instrumental in making contact with the right people. We owe them a great big thank you and so much more.

For this trip to see GINO, it was Julie and myself. On Wednesday evening we arrived at our hotel in Shawinigan and later met up with Gail. We had a wonderful time talking and sharing stories. Gail was so excited because the show the next evening would be her first time to see GINO LIVE! Nothing like the first time! I don't think she slept much that night with all her pent up excitement.

Thursday afternoon we planned to meet Gail & Jess at the festival site for the soundcheck. When we met at 2:00pm the word was that GINO was just leaving Montreal and to come back about 3:30pm.

Julie and I went back to the Hotel to rest and shortly after our arrival the phone rang.

It was Andre Huare one of the festival workers. He wanted us to come up to the festival site where there was a TV crew from the local news who wanted to interview us for a news piece to run on the local news at 6:00pm. Julie and I were stunned! Why did they want to talk to us! Andre then said he was in the hotel lobby to escort us back to the festival site. Quickly we met Andre in the hotel lobby. He was so kind to us and told us he wanted this to be a day in our lives that we would never forget. From this point forward we were treated like VIP'S. Andre told us there was a special VIP section to the right of the stage where we would be sitting this evening for the concert. He gave us a Presse pass and we were able to park on the grounds of the festival for the rest of the day and night. Was this all a dream? No,it was some very kind Canadians making us feel very special in their small wonderful town.

We arrived up at the festival site and were greeted by the TV crew. Gail, Jess, Julie and myself were interviewed. Truth be told I can't remember what I said. Of course we all said how much we admire GINO and his music. They couldn't believe it was my 19th time to see GINO in concert or that I had traveled from the United States for the show. I quickly added that I had planned to see my 20th show the next evening in LaSalle.

While we waited for the band and GINO to arrive for the soundcheck we met two friends Lucie and Lynn. Lucie was a BIG GINO FAN but had never seen him perform live. She was so excited that GINO was coming to perform in her backyard as she put it. Lynn worked for the festival and was so kind to give us T-shirts from the festival. We also received posters which we had GINO sign.

GINO arrived and the TV crew filmed him shaking hands with all of us. He was kind and signed our posters before going to work on the soundcheck. Lucie was all smiles after she had her picture taken with GINO.

After the soundcheck, Julie and I went back to the hotel just in time to see ourselves on the local news. We were in such shock that I will have to wait until I see the tape to remember just what we all said. All this excitement in one day and we still had the show in the evening to look forward too.

Back to the festival we went and we were enjoying the other groups who were performing before GINO.

As we were sitting there, a reporter from the local newspaper came and interviewed all of us. Our picture was taken and it appeared the next day along with the interview. Everyone was so kind to all of us. They really made us feel so special!

GINO and the band took the stage and the crowd went wild!

There were over 10,000 people in the audience and they were treated to a GREAT show.

Wild Horses
Living Inside Myself
Wheels of Life
Black Cars
Joli Coeur
Persona Non Grata

Break

Hurts to Be In Love
People Gotta Move
Canto
Brother to Brother
I Just Wanna Stop

Encore

People Gotta Move.

GINO was in top form this evening and the audience really appreciated his effort and all the band members.

The only complaint I heard was that the show was too short. We always want more. Sometimes GREAT QUALITY is better than quantity. The next morning before we left town we were in the local drugstore looking to buy the newspaper. The salesgirl looked at me and said, " I saw you on the news last evening."

I guess my fifteen minutes of fame took place in Shawinigan! (LOL) Now it was on to Montreal and the show in LaSalle.

To be continued, part two !!!
Mary Lou

(3) : A second e-mail from Mary Lou in the USA dated 28 July 2005 with the subject : GINO T-Shirts Sold at LaSalle...

Hi! Barend & Trees,
When we were at the shows in LaSalle we purchased 8 t-shirts.
Julie purchased 3 and screamed with delight to finally have a GINO T-shirt.
My friend Laura purchased three and gave one to her brother who is also a big fan.
I myself purchased 2 shirts and had GINO sign one of them.
Glad to know that the money is going to charity.

I had a conversation with Ron and remarked how he looks like GINO.
He laughed and said he was ten years younger than GINO but not to mention that to GINO. Ha Ha I smiled and told him that GINO has nothing to worry about because he looks great for his age.
All the best, Mary Lou

(4) :An e-mail from Gail in Kansas City in the USA dated 8 August 2005 with the subject : Gino in Shawinigan......

Good afternoon B&T!!!
Gino in Shawinigan....

My brother and I headed north to Montreal... flights were good..... we were more than ready to hear the Master of Music on stage, in person we go thru customs at the airport... the young man asked us why we were visiting Canada... told him we were going to Shawinigan..... he laughed and asked "WHY?"... he decided a concert there was worth a trip, otherwise, no way! We picked up our rental car...... and headed north--a 2 hour drive...... we checked into the hotel, and then headed out for dinner... and sat down in an outdoor bistro and looked across the street... the office for Festival of South Shawinigan was right across from us... and two people who worked in that office were at the table next to us.. so we told them we were in town to hear GINO. They asked where we were from, told them Kansas City... and Andre said... so you two are the ones who came 2100 kilometers to hear GINO! Yes, that's us(I'd called their office to get area info in April and again in early June)...long story short, they asked us to be interviewed on a local TV station about GINO and why we came so far! There were two other fans at our hotel( Mary Lou and Julie) that we'd talked to, so they asked us to bring them along, too...long story short, the next afternoon, we were all interviewed and appeared on the local news that evening.

We arrived at the park location to hear the sound check in the afternoon of June 30th...finally, about 3 PM, the band shows up and a few minutes later, GINO arrives...there were few people there other than people associated with the event...stagehands and sound people...GINO(in a pair of blue jeans with ripped knees, and a light aqua T shirt) starts walking to the stage area and Jess, Mary Lou and Julie, and a long time fan, Lucie,, who was setting up a VIP area, walked over, and we waited as GINO came closer...me with my 30 year old vinyl Storm At Sunup...GINO says hello and "you've had that one a long time, haven't you"... and signs it for me....he says hello to the Jess, Mary Lou and Julie and then Lucie...she speaks to him in French and gets a hug...she was ecstatic..she told us she'd loved GINO's music for years and was thrilled to learn he'd be appearing in her own back yard, as she lives in the Shawinigan area. Then GINO said, "Now time for the sound check"...we took seats and watched and listened as they got everything set up and ready to go....GINO was putting his band thru their paces, Alain, Luc, David,Mark, Don and Marco, Nathalie was there again with her violin as well as two others...they took about 90 minutes and it was very interesting to watch GINO, you can certainly tell he is a musician thru and thru...everything had to be just perfect!!

The opening acts, Anika and her band appeared first, a local group and they were quite good...then Rachelle, the soul singer from the Montreal area with her band.......she gave a very short set and was gone before you knew it!

Then GINO hit the stage at about 9:30 PM......we were READY!!! So was the crowd...I'm not sure how many people were in the area, but the festival officials had told us they were expecting 10,000-12,000 for the concert..we did see Uncle Vic in the crowd..the band had everyone more than ready to hear the Master of Music! GINO hit the stage, in a long sleeved black shirt and blue jeans and had the crowd yelling GINO immediately....we knew we were in for some fantastic music!!!

Playlist :
Wild Horses... very jazzy and perfect for the sun going down...got everyone in the mood for more!!
Living Inside Myself... GINO plays his voice like an instrument, AMAZING!
Wheels of Life
Black Cars... WOW!!! A very different version than what we hear on the CD's!
Joli Couer... the French speaking audience loved this one
Persona Non Grata... Frankie Love, Mark Kelso, David Goldblatt and Nathalie were really smokin' on this one

Break..........

Hurts to Be in Love... Alain Caron was very mellow on this one, again, GINO was using his voice as an instrument!
People Gotta Move....Nathalie was up on her feet, playing away!!! GINO was dancing all over the stage and the crowd was going crazy!!!
Canto.........the intro was absolutely gorgeous...........this song was the reason I wanted to hear GINO and he did it justice, puts his heart and soul into this one, just fantastic to hear "in person"...still one of my all time favorites of GINO's work...
Brother to Brother...........the band cooked on this one...GINO was dancing and directing, have a great time with this one!
Just Wanna Stop........Frankie Love was really into this one, that sax was wailing!!!
Encore of People Gotta Move... Gino was all over the stage, dancing and having a great time with it!!

And with that, the concert was OVER...way too soon........GINO left the stage and it all seemed to have been over in 2 minutes!! It was totally worth the trip, GINO's musicianship is phenomenal as we all know and it was great to see such a master at work, doing the "job" that he loves doing.......I was amazed at how good his voice STILL is, it's been well taken care of over his career and we should be able to enjoy his music for a very long time.......we were singing and talking about the concert on the 2 hour trip back to Montreal.......we felt very fortunate to have been there to hear such an incredible musical set! Bravo GINO!!

Gino Vannelli and His own Band :

David Goldblatt
Alain Caron
Mark Kelso
Francois D'Amour
Don Meunier
Marco Tessier
Nathalie Bonin

& the Tivoli Big Band

They played a Big Band version of "Wild Horses" wich blew the audience away and let's not forget "King For A Day" We can never ever come out off this musical work of art and the power goes thru the bones. The powerful music tells us what Gino means with this song and again we think the word song is not a good word for this kind of art in music and incredible work of arrangements and orchestration. We really do not know all the right words because of our poor English/American writing and our poor knowledge of music and technical musical things but we simply mean that the music and Gino's voice is SUPERB and BEYOND FANTASTIC !!! But you already know how we feel about Gino Vannelli's work !!!

Let's not forget the great job of Fred and Yves, they do a lot of stressful work to get everything going in the most possible perfect way and that's not always easy....... We know it and we saw it close by so also a BIG applause for those two great and hard working guys................ and than the Musicians, yes what can we say ? We are always overwhelmed by their kindness and friendlyness, we met Nathalie Bonin, Mark Kelso, Don Meunier and Marco Tessier for the very first time and we are so impressed by these sweet people in different ways... Musically and as a person who meet the good and bad things in life too and still have to work far away from home in spite of happyness and sadness that's going on in their personal lives... It was touching how they missed their Wifes or Girlfriend or Boyfriend and especially their Children and they are such proud Fathers / Mother that they showed pictures of their Kids. They love to tour but they also long to go home again to get and give the love, true love to their Families and it was so nice to meet David Goldblatt, Alain Caron, Francois D'Amour and let's not forget the Master again....... Wow !!! They spoiled us rotten with good feelings even when bad things happened in that evil place in Copenhagen.... We will remember the great laughs afterwards forever.......

My, oh my, we can write books about Musicians and the way they try to get a "normal" meal like everybody else on this planet !!!

We hope we make sense with this story but a week inside the world of music, GINO VANNELLI' S MUSIC makes us like we say in Holland : "hotul de botul !!!" and in English/American : "We have no idea" !!! Just happy and crazy at the same time !!!

BIG THANKS TO THE GOOD GUYS and GIRLS also from the Tivoli Big Band for this superb Gino Vannelli concert. We even did not notice that the rain poured out of the skies and only used our umbrella for a few minutes... We only felt the music and Gino's voice and all around us was away, far away for 1 hour and 40 minutes !!!

Alain Carons's bass-guitar forces you to listen and explodes in PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE and the Dutch people have to think about the ANWB commercial immediately.....

"Jolie Coeur" was sooooooooooo beautiful and the strings played all the emotions like natural and how Gino meant it to be....... And when we start talking about "CANTO" we really get emotional... WOW !!! That voice is so deep-going that even the biggest and strongest man has to hide his tears from falling down on his cheeks. This is a real macho line but we do not care...... The way Gino sang "CANTO" is just beyond superb and beautiful. What can we say more to tell you all how fantastic it was and the shots of music which arrived inside our hearts came in well, very well !!!

Here is the TIVOLI Sceneteknisk Afdeling set list REG.-NR. 585 :
Gino Vannelli Set list Copenhagen July 5th 2005 :

1 - Wild Horses
2 - Living Inside Myself
3 - Black Cars
4 - Jolie Coeur

ATTACCA

5 - Persona Non Grata
6 - Alive By Science
7 - Walter Whitman
8 - People Gotta Move (Big Band)
9 - CANTO
10 - King For A Day
11 - Hurts To Be In Love
12 - Brother To Brother

1 - Stop
2 - People Gotta Move (Pop Version)

We type the set list because when we scan the sheet it will take more and more memory and we still have many photos...
"Walter Whitman Where Are you...." One of our favorite songs gave us 10 million goos-bumps again... The most annoying thing of a Gino Vannelli concert is that it is over too soon, much too soon... The 1 hour and 40 minutes races by. All good things end very fast.

One day we were with Gino and some of the Musicians and received these nice feelings when we met very unexpected for us both NIELS LAN DOKY again, His looks and His eyes said it all... He saw us and came immediately to kiss and hug us and He even remembered our names... Again such a sweet man with a BIG heart. He told us that He produced a movie called : "Between a Smile and a Tear" (Very beautiful title !) and that His and Gino's song "TENDER LIES" is in this movie or it's more a documentary about Jazz music. And it's a tribute to the Montmartre Jazz club in Copenhagen. Niels visited the première in Copenhagen with more important people and the movie was in the cinema's in Copenhagen but is also released in Belgium and more countries will follow in the Fall even Japan... Gino was very happy to see Niels again because He worked months and months with Niels on the Haitek Haiku project and they toured together in Denmark in 1997 and in 2001. Nice moments and very nice memories of the greats !!! All the greats were gathered in Copenhagen on July the 4th and the 5th of 2005 !!!

Anyways, we go from one subject to the other subject but that's because of the confusion in our heads after 3 Gino Vannelli live concerts which were so intense that we still have to process everything.

The Copenhagen concert was in the Tivoli park and we think about 5.000 - 6.000 people could see and hear this spectacle of Gino's art in music and how impressive with such a big band and strings. During the rehearsals people who only were in the park for the attractions came and sit down to listen to Gino because only with a few notes and hums Gino is already able to get people to listen to Him can you imagine what happens during a real concert and how Gino's voice hit them and grabs them ??? The faces of the Tivoli big band people were so proud and happy. It was really an enjoyment to see it all and to hear it all.
Lucky us and lucky people who were there at that moment in time...

Picture at the top and the picture in this Denmark section made by Barend Verwaal. Pictures of Gino's 5 heads also made by Barend Verwaal. And we are creating a slide show with only pictures made by Barend Verwaal on a seperate web page. We also make the Pictures of Ron van Welzenes from Paradiso and of Carsten Weide from Copenhagen on this seperate web page. Carsten Weide is a real photographer as you already can see in our photo-books 1 and 2 with photos of Carsten. And when we receive Carsten's photos we will create a new photo-book about the 5th of July 2005 in Copenhagen Denmark.

We also going to write something or try to get something on paper, cyberspace paper, about Amsterdam and Groningen.

Music, GINO VANNELLI'S MUSIC will bring peace, joy and happyness even for only 1 hour and a 1/2 and it removes the suffering for a while, it's a source of energy for many people on this planet.

GINO VANNELLI : THE MASTER OF MUSIC WAS GOOD REALLY GOOD AND THE COPENHAGEN PEOPLE WILL FEEL GINO VANNELLI'S VIBES INSIDE THEIR SKINS FOR A LONG, LONG TIME AND WALK AROUND WITH BIG EAR TO EAR SMILES...

Thanks, BIG and MANY thanks to Fred and Yves and to : David, Marco, Mark, Nathalie, Alain, Francois, Don for that horrible night in that "restaurant" !!! We will never ever forget it anymore... Also great thanks to the musicians of the BIG BAND and the Strings and ofcourse THANKS to the conductor who gave his heart and soul to Gino Vannelli's music. Last but not least :

The Master of Music : Gino Vannelli !!!

We (Barend and Trees) go on to Amsterdam and Groningen... Have a look at the rehearsal photos made by Barend overhere...

Oh we forgot a few things which come up again in flashes of beautiful memories, we will write these memories in part 2.

PART 2 :
(5b) : To be continued...

And here is the new Carsten Weide photo-book called : Tivoli... It took almost a year because it's now 1 July 2006 but at least we could create something and we had to buy more memory because these beautiful photos take a lot of cyber space... Anyway ENJOY the 4 web pages with 3 Gino Vannelli slide shows... On the 4 web page are 32 photos...

(6) : A message from Peter Ingerstam in Sweden written inside our Gino Vannelli guestbook dated 8 July 2005 :

(7) : A message from JAZZ NEWS. Last News! jazz, blues, world music... dated Denmark July 2005 :

Saturday night, 5 July at 10 pm on Pl?nen (The Open Air Stage)

Gino Vannelli with the Tivoli Big Band and strings
Canadian singer Gino Vannelli's big, rounded voice has knocked out audiences for more than 30 years. Over the years, his passion for jazz, soul, pop and funk has been documented in an ocean of concerts and on the 14 solo albums he has recorded over the years. His talent has earned him several Grammy nominations and on his latest recording, 'Canto', it is very evident that Vannelli is a singer who is not afraid to experiment and set himself a challenge. Especially when it comes to languages, because the songs on the album are recorded in four different languages. Gino Vannelli has made several appearances in Denmark and produced Niels Lan Doky's album, 'Haitek Haiku', back in 2000.

Thus, it will no doubt be a happy reunion when Gino Vannelli makes his first appearance on Pl?nen at Tivoli.

Conny Osinga

(8) : English/Engels : An e-mail from Conny in the Netherlands dated 10 July 2005 with the subject :
My meet & greet with Gino Vannelli

When I heard Gino was coming to Holland again, I directly ordered 4 tickets Paradiso Amsterdam for July 7th on the internet. When I told this that evening at dinner to my husband Peter and my sons, they said: that’s nice...We also got 4 tickets for you as a birthday present for you tomorrow....and so there were 8 tickets..... It was no problem to find enthusiastic friends who want to come with us and so it happened that we came in a very good mood to the Temple of Paradiso, always a nice place to be.

We enjoyed a wonderful, exciting concert. There were some problems with the sound (as we saw Gino wasn’t very happy with) but the atmosphere was fantastic even as the musicians and the wonderful voice of Gino!

After the concert we had a small after party, where I hoped Gino would come among the people there, even as he did in the Pepsi Stage last year, but after half an hour we went outside and right there was Gino, chatting and giving autographs!! Our friend got one on the setlist. When I walked towards him, he just left because he was there almost for 10 minutes.

Although I am a typical no-nonsense Dutch girl, I couldn’t stand this and started to behave like a 43 year old “teenager”. I wanted to shake hands with Gino after all these years visiting his concerts!!

I spoke to a real “diehard on wheels” who told he had a wonderful evening, talked to Gino and made a picture with him... I asked him where Gino should leave Paradiso and he told me it was at the side entrance, there were waiting two vans for him and the band. I waited at the side entrance and even my friends couldn’t persuade me to come with them. I really had the intention to wait for Gino!

I spoke tot a very nice guy that belonged to the crew of Gino and he really enjoyed these days he was working for Gino! I asked him when Gino would leave Paradiso but he couldn’t give me a reasonable answer at that moment. After a while he left inside to look how things were going and I thought he was never coming back.... My husband Peter was loosing his patience but I still hold on...

Finally this guy came back and told me it would take some time because everyone was enjoying themselves inside. He asked me to give my ticket, so he could ask Gino for an autograph. I thought this was very nice of this guy and gave my ticket with him.

Then I saw one of the doors of the side entrance opened and this guy gave me a sign to come closer, I thought Gino had enough of giving autographs but he told me that if I would like I could come with him inside!!!

Through narrow corridors I came to this very cosy back-stage room where Gino sat on the couch. There was my big idol!! He came to me, I gave him a hand and a hug and we chatted about the evening and coming concert next day in de Oosterpoort in Groningen. He told me there were some problems with the sound and hoped it would be better in Groningen and as I heard already, the sound was perfect there!! Then we had to search for a pen for an autograph, I thanked him, gave him another hug and then “floated” outside the Temple of Paradiso !!! Outside I went completely out of my mind !!! And this for a typical no nonsense Dutch 43 year old girl !!!

I am still enjoying this July 7th evening and it’s fantastic that I finally met the man that gave me already so much pleasure and wonderful times with his music. After all his CD’s, DVD’s and all the concerts I enjoyed in Paradiso, RAI, Pepsi Stage Amsterdam, Oosterpoort Groningen and Congresgebouw Den Haag together with my husband Peter this was really fantastic and one of the best days of my life!!

Also the best birthday present I ever got !! With love to all Gino Vannelli fans

(10) : Two e-mails from Bill 'Jimmie Bone' Lowdell & Lawrie Bolton in the U.K. United Kingdom dated 6 & 11 July 2005 with the subject : Gino Vannelli - UK

First e-mail : Hi Barend & Trees
Greetings from from the UK.
We have started a Gino Vannelli UK fansite www.ginovannelli.co.uk , I don't think it will ever be as comprehensive as yours but its something we wanted to do as big Gino fans! We are starting very gradually but we are sure there must be more Gino fans in the UK who are hiding, so hopefully we will find them! If you could link to us that would be great too!

We have to thank you very much because if it wasn't for your website, we would not have found out about the live dates in your country... yes we are coming to 'The Paradiso' on Thursday... and can't wait!

Are you going to both Holland shows? it would be good to meet you, I can't see any pictures of you on your website, so we don't know what you look like!!

Look forward to hearing from you
Best regards, Bill 'Jimmie Bone' Lowdell & Lawrie Bolton.

(11) : Second E-mail : Hi Barend & Trees
Hope you like our pic of us with Gino. What a nice guy he is, we chatted about the terrible things that had happened in London that morning and also asked him when he's coming to the UK, he said maybe next year after the new album is done but that last time he was in England he was ill... hope it wasn't our English food!!

The Paradiso show was amazing and so was Holland, your country has such friendly people.

We have updated www.ginovannelli.co.uk please feel free to help yourself to any of the images for your website.
All the best Jimmie.

(12) : An e-mail from Ron and Marian in Barendrecht the Netherlands dated 12 July 2005 with the subject : Thursday

Dear Barend and Trees,
Thuersday a beautiful day in juli,
the waiting was over, (finally) been nervous all month.
Amsterdam, as always, was full of life, but now it seems to glow. We had to work all day an left at 6 o clock from Barendrecht to Amsterdam, eating some sandwitch on the road ( people gotto move, you now! ) 7,15 Paradiso, a beautiful rock temple, this was the place to be. Loved to see Barend and Trees again, thats how we now HE was coming (million thanks guys and your amazing pages)

THERE HE WAS...... electricity thru our body, goose bumps, light in the head, feeling immens happiness And there was the VOICE and again, electricity thru o..... etc etc It just gonne take you a copple of minutes to get a bit grip of your sences I now, i am a fan but even if you are not, this has gotto be the best voice you have ever heard, the most beautiful sound in this whole damnd world. Seems his voice is getting better and better every time we see him (logic, he das not seems to get any older to) It was a great concert we loved every second of it. I really had to forced myself to pay attention to all the other people on the stage who made his great music great. I only nowe this man behind the piano (david goldblatt ?) he has got to be best i ever seen. Man, can he play.....chapeau!! All of the Band a great compliment, it seems easy but everything you played was very complex.

As always more than 90 minutes was over in 5 minutes Ik takes me more than a week, Gino, to get you out of my system, well..... the get back to the 50% your music always will be a part of our life Gino, Many, Many thanks again for letting us in to your musical heaven and letting us being a part of this beautiful world you created, we cold not live wihtout it.
Ron from Barendrecht Holland.

Here are a few pictures made by Ron.... And see the beautiful photo inside this concert review !!! WOW !!!
Photo 1 : too beautiful for words... + Photo 2 : Werner and Barend + Photo 3 : Mark Kelso !!! The Drummer. You have to enlarge the photos in your windows display or frame to get the most sharpest photos.

We make a seperate web page now for Ron's pictures because these pictures are sooooooo beautiful and we cannot put those pictures on here because the memory is almost full and used.... We think we make this new web page with Ron van Welzenes pictures and with Barend Verwaal's pictures, we will make a link overhere soon...

( 15) : An e-mail from Albert Hoorn from Opende, the Netherlands, dated 14 July 2005 with the subject : concert Gino Vannelli 8 July 2005 Groningen

Good day Barend and Trees,
It was a trully wonderful concert in the Oosterpoort Theater!!!!
Gino is a VOICE in an outfit. He offers tremendous quality on stage, and an incredible voice (powerfull, always on tone and with amazing expression).

The performance of the band was also breathtaking! It all came together flawlessly on the small stage. I was very glad to find that he also performed a song from the Slow Love album. One of his best in my opinion. After the concert I wanted to shake hands with Gino, but I did not find the opportunity. So, I will certainly visit a next concert and try and get an autograph also. I said it in my birthday wishes to Gino last year and repeat my message to him: I think your music is of fantastic quality and I hope you will continue to "search" for the perfection/style you seek (perhaps better not to find?) and find the motivation to make me and your many other fans happy with more of your enjoyable music. So, hope to see you soon again!
Greetings and best wishes to you and your family Albert Hoorn, Opende, The Netherlands

NB if it is possible to pass a personal question to Gino: Would he be willing to give me any practical tips for training a voice for (professional) singing? I sang in choirs before and was recently also invited as a lead singer for an amateur band (blues). In particular techniques for breathing, powerful singing and voice conservation interest me. Anyway appreciate anything from him.

Thanks Barend and Trees. Keep up the relentless good work on Gino! Bye Bye

Hallo Barend & Trees.

Hello Barend & Trees.
What a nice, very nice, concert of Gino in Paradiso, we really, really loved it !!!! Awesome !!!! Also very nice to see Him play with His own band and in our opinions it should have lasted longer, what a pity that we did not see Gino anymore after the concert but we cannot have it all. Anyway, I liked it very much to see you two live in real person this time.
Greetings from Wil & Rob Spelbos.

Groetjes Ben Querido

(17) : English/Engels : An e-mail from Ben & Ellen in Holland, dated 10 July 2005 with the subject : Report concert 8 July 2005

Hi Barend and Trees.
As promised my report on last Friday

July 7 and 8 , once again, Gino would visit The Netherlands to perform in two concerts. . On July 7 in the Paradiso, Amsterdam, and on July 8 in Groningen. I'd been in contact about these two concerts with Barend and Trees through their web site, and of course they were to visit both . Trees advised me to attend the Groningen concert if I had to pick one. The Groningen theater had a cozier atmosphere than the Paradiso. The heck, why not?! We had never been to Groningen, so we decided to spend the weekend there. We booked a hotel room and made sure to be at the theater at 7.00 PM. while the concert would start at 8.30 PM. We were very surprised to be the first there. This seemed a little weird, cause we'd imagined all die-hard fans to appear way earlier than 8.30 PM! Slowly but surely people started to arrive at the theater and the doors were opened at 8.15 PM. We rushed into the theater, since all seats were unreserved. We managed to find a seat in the front row in this small but cozy theater, that would seat about a few 100 people . The stage was all set up for a great performance and guess who were also in the front row ? Of course, Barend and Trees. There was still some time left for some chatting about Gino and Barend and Trees' web site until the concert began at 20.50PM.

It's absolutely wonderful to see Gino make his appearance on stage For whatever reason he seemed a bit shy , but he started off with a strong 'Wild Horses'. It rocked. Trees had already informed us about some new band members , so we paid some more attention to those musicians as well. What struck me how songs I had heard him perform at the North Sea Jazz Festival a few years back, sounded absolutely identical. The songs are re-discovered and all hits were being performed.

It was clear Gino grew during the concert. He matched the -obvious -overwhelmingly enthusiastic audience. As always Gino jumped back and forth on stage while -in his way- conducting his band .. Unfortunately Gino only sang two songs from his Canto album, -Considering the amount of string musicians on stage we had expected some more Gino enjoys to change older songs. With pro-longed intros , songs like 'People Gotta Move" got new spirit. Gino obviously felt great that night. He shared many anecdotes with us. Like the unexpected meeting with Stevie Wonder who was playing his 'Crazy Life ' song, which led to some more working together.

There were two encores . The audience full heartedly sung with 'It hurts to be in Love' and after a never ending call for encore Gino came back on stage with 'People Gotta Move ', performed like on the Powerful People album. Gino has not lost any of his qualities . He is a real professional. After the concert we talked some more with Barend and Trees and Trees admitted to having shed some emotional tears , I could quite well understand. Barends enthusiasm was very remarkable . He absolutely loved the show.

To top the show. Barend and Trees had arranged for Gino to come back to shake some hands with some of the fans. This was absolutely great. Unfortunately the battery in our camera had died and we came home without pictures from the concert. We are fortunate however, to have some pictures on our cell phone. Meeting Gino was superb. There will be a new pop album release soon . 7 Songs have already been completed, so we will be able to enjoy more of Gino soon. After our good byes with Barend and Trees we went downtown Groningen to relive our emotions once again over a refreshment. It has been a remarkable evening, for long to be remembered.
Regards, Ben & Ellen Querido

Hoi,

" Your wine is the blood that drunkens my heart, Omens of love"

Hi Barend and Trees,
We have enjoyed ourselves again in a BIG way last evening with Gino. What does he stay dynamic and always musical and vocal unequalled for sure ! Also our 3 guests who went with us were very impressed. The vibes and the atmosphere were really very good and Gino was very happy and liked it all. Also His band shined and had fun, especially the bass-player. We hope for you and the other fans too ofcourse that tonight's show in Groningen will be as good and as pleasant like in Paradiso.

We will be there next time, absolutely and for sure!! No doubts about that. It was a pity that there were troubles again with the sound system (That happened before in the music-hall 013 in Tilburg, I thought in 1999) And as always there are the "jerks" who speak and make noise through the beautiful and slow songs. But we as die-hard, hard-core devoted fans did not care, we did enjoy Gino anyways...

With the help of the Cello-player (Cellist), Helga did get Gino's Spa blue water bottle again and she did manage to get the towel which was used by Gino. So our Gino Vannelli collection is growing and growing slowly with real Gino Vannelli collectors items.

We thought to see you two around 8 o'clock pm in the music-hall but we did not have a chance to shake hands with you two because you were already talking with people and after that we did not see you anymore. Maybe next time!

We go on a nice vacation in the next 4 weeks and we take the positive feelings from the concert with us. And ofcourse we take with us the most needed Gino cd's so we can listen and enjoy the nice things in life during the "hot" Summerevenings and with a nice good glass of wine.

"Your wine is the blood that drunkens the heart, Omens Of Love"

Again our thanks and we wish you a nice, very nice hot and dry Summer.
Greetings from Jan and Helga.

Marc

(20) : English/Engels : An e-mail from Marc H. in the Netherlands, dated 10 July 2005.

Hi Barend and Trees,
First a well deserved compliment for your site. A great deal of information ... has to be a tremendous amount of work.

I've seen Gino live for the 4th time. in Amsterdam. It was superb , despite the technical difficulties Gina had to put up with. I bought my first album in 1979 "Brother to Brother" and ever since I have been greatly admiring all of the music he has created. To be able to compose that kind of music on such a young age now puzzles me and it proves his talent. I have a broad musical taste, and I am a musician myself and contrary from all the hundreds of albums and CDs in my possession Gino's music is the only music that remains great and interesting to listening to.

Since you guys kind of know everything about this great man I was wondering if you could help me out : I noticed on Gino's site that there are 2 video tapes available from concerts in 1978 and 1990 (Montreal). What a bummer these are video tapes.. Would you know if these recordings are also available on DVD, and - if so- where can I purchase those? Thank you for taking the time to read all this and I'll remain hopeful to receive a positive response. Lots of success with your site.!!! Marc.

Hoi Barend & Trees,

Hi Barend & Trees,
Are you still enjoying or after-enjoying Gino's performances?
You must have enjoyed it all !! The Paradiso concert is still going through my head, really cool !!! It was only a bummer that we waited for a very long time in the music-hall for Gino to bring us a visit, a maybe visit, and now I am reading that He came back to His fans at the exit so we were in the wrong place at the wrong time !! such a bummer and disappointment but everything else was really fantastic !! It's a BIG pity that we could not come to the Oosterpoort in Groningen, that must have been TOP.
(How can it not be good or not be TOP with such an artist!!) Kind regards from Wil & Rob.

(22) : : An e-mail from Marcelino L. from Spain dated 19 Juli 2005. With the subject : Gino's Holland Tour

Dear Barend and Trees:
Thank you for your nice message. Here they are my photos at the Gino´s Holland Tour. My camera is not very good, and the frames in concert were so bad. But I think that the best photo was Gino with the Webmaster (Bestmaster) outside the Paradiso.

The photos are: 1) Paradiso; 2) Gino leaving the stage; 3) The end of the concert; 4) Gino with me ( Marcelino ) after the concert; 5) Gino with the Westmaster after the concert; 6) Gino´s poster on the front of the Paradiso; 7) Posters of Gino Vannelli in Groningen; 8) The building of the Oosterpoort in Groningen; 9) Direction to the concert hall. In a few days I´ll send you a communication with my impressions about my itinerary in Holland in Gino´s concerts. Thank you for all, friends. God bless you. MARCELINO L. Spain.

(23) : Dutch/Nederlands : Een e-mail van Miriam Sweegers uit Nederland d.d. 19 Juli 2005. Met het onderwerp : Re: Gino in Paradiso

Hallo Barend en Trees,
Wat een fantastische site hebben jullie gemaakt. Geweldig.

(23) : English/Engels : An e-mail from Miriam Sweegers in the Netherlands, dated 19 July 2005. With the subject : Re: Gino in Paradiso

Hello Barend and Trees
You 've created a wonderful site. Terrific. I am absolutely delighted with the Paradiso pictures. Would you like to hear part of my fan-story?

I was about 15 years old ( so that's 30 years ago) when I saw the Storm at Sunup album. I bought it because of the cover. What a gorgeous man I thought ( think). After I brought the album home I decided it wouldn't hurt to listen to the music, and ever since I am a devoted fan. I've bought all his music and am looking forward for October, to add on to my collection. I most cherish the Canto CD. I bought this CD one month after my father had passed away. During the January 30 2004 concert in the Grace theater in Amsterdam Gino told about his deceased father to whom he had dedicated his song 'Perola per mia Padre". I still get goosebumps when I listen to this song ( which I do often). I had the song translated by a friend who speaks Italian. Wonderful. I think this man is a star in connection with the supernatural.

OK, Julty 7 2005: I go to the Paradiso concert. Three friends go along. They were'nt quite the Gino fans, but now they are !. The concert exceeded all my expectations and I didn't mind the troubles with the sound at the start, because I was all the way in the front and was able to look Gino straight in his eyes. I never thought I would be swept off my feet. For me this was an unforgettable, rememberable, night. To stay "close" we went for a drink in a cozy Amsterdam cafe ( bar), and on our way home to Helmond we played a CD with a collection of his music. I went to bed at 3.00 AM, but couldn't sleep. Gino's music was in my head , and still is , two weeks later. I hope he'll be back, cause I'm sure I 'll be there.

Just a few words about Gino,

We flew from London two weeks ago to see Gino in concert at the paradiso club, Amsterdam. It was the best concert i have ever seen,i have been a big Gino fan for 25 years now, and it was the first time i had seen him live,it was fantastic. I wonder if he will ever come to the UK, maybe you could find out

Dear Barend & Trees, Hi Gino
First of all Barend & Trees, it was a real pleasure to meet and greet you again prior to the excellent gig of Gino on July 7 at Paradiso in Amsterdam. Frankly it took too much time to be able to have a tete a tete chat with you both again. It's quite funny and remarkable, that the loyal family of Gino fans is always coming back again to enjoy every gig of Gino and the great musicians. During the 15 years (eversince Gino is coming to Holland, starting in 1990) I started to know so many loyal Gino junks like you both, Clem, Fred and Tom. And everytime it's a real pleasure to have a reunion of this family. I have the feeling that this loyal Gino family is still growing and growing.

I am really wondering, Gino, if you are awared of the fact, that these people in Holland are real Gino Vannelli junks. Gino, you really make us so very happy with your excellent performances, great musicians and beautyful music. On top of that, I can assure you that the other crowd (the potential long term family members) enjoyed every note during this excellent gig for the full 100% as well. Needles to say that "the family" - so, including myself- can't wait to hear your new album and 7 brandnew songs of you which will be (hopefully) "supported" by some new gigs in Holland (finally Rotterdam this time?. Gino, by the way, when will "The Fool" be released?.

Gino, see you and all the best for you, Tricia and Anton.

Dear family members, see you next time.....let's keep our fingers crossed that Gino will dropp by this year to visit the family again!! warmest regards for all of you!!
Cor Dingena.

Groeten, Carl Kuijpers

(27) : English/Engels : An e-mail from Carl Kuijpers in the Netherlands, dated 23 July 2005. With the subject : What a great birthday

Hi Trees and Barend,
Two weeks have passed since the concert but I am still in awe.
Eventually I went with my brother in law who was not that familiar with Gino's music. He liked the diversity of the music. Of course I thought the music was superb, and every song - well: that's almost every song - I sang, hummed and danced along. And to think this was my birthday!.

From messages on your site I understand that I was not the only one to celebrate my birthday there. The time just flew by and the end came too soon. A night of recognition and such a pity it's all just history now. Well, lots of success with your web site . I 'm anxiously waiting for the release of the new CD and - even better - waiting for the next concert. Can't be soon enough for me...
Bye, Carl Kuijpers

Hello Barend and Trees,
I did not forget to buy tickets, so I saw the concert in Paradiso. I loved Canto and Gino sang Canto so beautiful and the rest was super too!
Greetings Victor

(29) : Words from Barend and Trees in Holland, dated 31 July 2005. With the subject : Gino Vannelli in Paradiso, Amsterdam and de Oosterpoort, Groningen both in the Netherlands.

To be honest we had no good feelings after the Paradiso concert this time, compared to the 1990 Gino Vannelli concert in Paradiso, Amsterdam, Gino's very first live concert ever in Holland..... which changed many people's lives for sure !!! We were a bit disappointed and certainly NOT because of Gino's music and voice or His great Musicians but about the music-hall, the sound system and the audience and the talking, phoning and yelling of people who did not belong there in a Gino Vannelli audience but they were the evening out and drinking, we come there for a Gino Vannelli concert but some people are there only to get out and drink... We do not complain about all people because the true fans were there too and they sssssssssssttttttt and sssssssttttt all the time and more people felt sorry for Gino that the sound system was not that good or not working very well..... And now we say it very nicely... There were also people flashlightning all the time straight into Gino's face while He already had such a difficult time with the sound system, Gino struggled and struggled but gave us a show which made a huge impression !!! Also a professional photographer broke his agreement and kept on making pictures with flashlights and everybody knows that after 3 songs the flashlights and photo making have to stop... Gino even gave some hints but that did not help at all........ Anyways we got rewarded the full way the next day in De Oosterpoort in Groningen.

And we know we put those pictures on our Gino Vannelli web pages too, but those pictures were from the first 3 songs and the rest were made without flash-lights. We know we are hypocrites too and accept pictures who were taken on bad times but hey we have our price too and we have to make Gino Vannelli web pages for you all !!! That's a good excuse isn't it ??? Nooooo we never make pictures during concerts we have no time, we have to enjoy the concert and we do not want to be stressed out by a camera or something like that... WE DO NOT WANT TO DO NOTHING DURING A GINO VANNELLI LIVE CONCERT ONLY ENJOY THE GREATNESS OF THE MASTER OF MUSIC : GINO VANNELLI !!! We only make pictures during the rehearsals or soundcheck with Gino's permission. Our pictures of the Paradiso soundcheck were so bad because we did not use the flash-light and the music hall was too dark... Copenhagen was outside, thank God !!!

Back to Paradiso, there were nice things too of course, first Gino Vannelli's music which made the true fans cook of enthusiasm and Gino's voice was superb again.... CANTO made tears free to run down the cheeks and also with big men !!! In spite of the talking out loud by people who should have been outside in the streets of Amsterdam, many goosebumps came to live on people's bodies. CANTO sang brilliantly by Gino Vannelli makes you realize what A GLORIOUS WORK this masterpiece really is... Gino sings CANTO so genuine with His heart even when bad things happen around Him... OUR SUPER BIG COMPLIMENTS TO GINO VANNELLI AND HIS MUSICIANS...

When Gino did "PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE" the audience went wild especially because of a commercial which they play all the time on the Dutch tv on all main channels and Gino Vannelli's "PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE" fills a major part of this commercial...... Everybody talks about Gino Vannelli's music and voice after seeing and hearing this commercial !!!

In de Oosterpoort in Groningen we lived through one of the very best Gino Vannelli live concerts ever !!! This happening was so close to perfect that we still cannot believe what we heard and what we saw... A super fantastic audience and when Gino did "CANTO" there was no talking and super quiet, people listened with open mouths and were amazed by the beauty of Gino's voice. Goose-bumps, big goose-bumps and tears.......... This audience was quiet on the right times and went wild on the right times........ No drinking in the hall, there are always a few exceptions but in general no drinking and no talking............. Only amazement and joy because of Gino's more than super great and fantastic performance together with the musicians....... And yes Gino's eyes were so happy and good that we had no worries not for one moment. Trees had to cry about 15 times mostly because of Gino's voice and the songs but also when He told funny stories in between the songs......... He talked a lot and in Paradiso He did not talk much. So in Groningen everybody could tell that Gino was in such a good mood. Gino had glorious eyes and told the audience this was the last time they did this show... His new album will be released in October in Canada and there will be new shows in the future, Gino told the audience whole stories and had big fun on stage. The music-hall was perfect too, small but still big it was half round with the perfect sound system.

We had seats at the front row but on the very right side, we wanted to give other people a chance to sit in the middle on the first row and they did !!! We already have had so many chances and oppertunities and we are already so lucky all the time !!! We love to see enthusiasm and smiling faces on the front row in the middle... We still wanted to sit on the first row so we could not be annoyed by people talking or phoning in front of us, we only want Gino and the Musicians in front of us to enjoy the music !!! Right behind us were two men who talked but talked big compliments towards Gino and that talking we loved, really, really loved. They were so impressed and amazed by everything and could not stop loving Gino's voice and music and they showed their appreciation by their emotions and BIG, BIG aplausse !!! Those men made us feel good and also Gino showed His happyness on stage !!! Oh we forgot to tell you that Nathalie Bonin played with 4 new people, a guy with a big classical bass and 3 ladies one with a cello and 2 with violins...

To be continued....

Alvast bedankt!
Met vriendelijke groeten, Wiebe van Braam Morris.

Hello Barend and Trees,
I've been at the performance of Gino Vannelli in Paradiso and was very impressed. And in the meantime I found your web site which is super great! I remember that a while ago there was a show on tv in which somebody made a little book about Gino. Can you please tell me if I can buy that somewhere or so? Thanks in advance!
Kind regards, Wiebe van Braam Morris.

(31) : An e-mail from Andreas in Germany dated 2 August 2005 with the subject : Gino

Dear Trees, dear Barend,
just returned from holidays in Italy and found out that there is "something going on" at Ginov.com... they connected the tour data link to poll star and worked a bit on the web page. Is Joe Vannelli part of Gino's new projects ??? For years Joe did not work on these pages.Probably you know more ???

On our way to Italy we also crossed Austria on friday 15th and guess what: On Ö 3 Hitradio they played "Wild Horses"(at about 12:00 o' clock) Ö 3 is the most heard public radio station in Austria and I was surprised.

After one week in the Tuscany (Maremma near Grossetto) we had a week in the Friaul (north east from Venice) and i found a picture in our hotel from a view of the palazzo Giovanelli near Venice and in Venice i found a "ponte Giovanelli" and a hint to a former palazzo Giovanelli in Venice. So now you know why people always write Gino's name with one "n".

During summertime there are a lot of Jazz Festivals in Italy in very nice towns or big parks of the old palazzos. So if artists like Pat Metheney, George Benson, Al Jarreau... find their audience there, it should be easy for Gino's management to book some gigs in the country of his grandparents.

During my summer holidays I often remembered the concerts in Amsterdam and Groningen and whished to have a CD of the Groningen concert as they had a great sound there and it was the first time for me to have a short talk with Gino.
Kindest regards from Andreas

Vincent Vuik
Ermelo

(35) : English/Engels : An e-mail from Dianne & Vincent in the Netherlands, dated 20 August 2005. With the subject : Concert 8 July in Groningen

Hello Barend and Trees,
First : I have lots and much admiration for the way you two have a longtime spell on Gino and that you lead this "fan club" in the Netherlands.

This must take a lot of your time!!!!!! My genuine compliments.

It's not a habit of mine to bomb you with e-mails and I did not do that before... I am a fan of the first hours I think, so early 1970's or so with "the Gist of the Gemini". After this He was and will be number one forever...

But I did not want to keep these pictures from you which are made in Groningen. For me this was my third concert in the Netherlands. Years ago in 1986 in Utrecht and in 1992 in Groningen. And now we even had the chance to talk with him for a little while. The pictures are made by another fan, who thank God had a camera with him and to whom I am very thankful and grateful, NIEK OOSTERLEE!

On one of the pictures Gino stands between my Wife Dianne and myself (Vincent!) We are so very proud of this. Also in our lives Gino always stands between the two of us... The rest of the pictures say it all and need no words... and you two were there too at that moment probably. I give you my permission to put our pictures on the internet, if you want.

Kind regards, and maybe till the next concert,
Vincent Vuik, Ermelo.

PICTURES NUMBER 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - All made in de Oosterpoort Groningen, Holland, the Netherlands during and after one of the most superb and perfect Gino Vannelli live concerts with a fantastic Vannelli quality audience...

Vriendelijke groeten, Vincent Vuik, Ermelo, Holland.

(36) : English/Engels : Another enthusiastic e-mail from Dianne & Vincent in the Netherlands, dated 25 August 2005. With the subject : RE : Concert 8 July in Groningen

Hello Barend and Trees,
We had to laugh like crazy when we read your story about the concert in Groningen, in the English language which you wrote on this web page... (number 29...) Because I am one of the 2 men who had seats right behind you. I had a very difficult time to keep myself on the seat because I felt like singing and swinging along with all the songs. I already had my suspicions that it were you two in front of us but I was not sure. The other man is Marcel Zimmer, a freelance musician of mainly Dutch Gospel and also the Drummer of the EO (Dutch evangelic broadcasting organization) and last but not least : my neighbour. He was impressed by Gino but also by the Drummer and Alain Caron. He also spoke about a very unique and very special concert. He visited a few U2 concerts but he really, really liked Gino Vannelli's concert and thought it was marvellous. And Gino's concert cannot be compared with any other live concerts which he visited ever in his life. Both of our Wifes are NO Gino Vannelli fans, but they both had a superb evening and enjoyed it very, very much. All this in addition to my earlier messages (numbers 34 and 35)
Kind Regards, Vincent Vuik, Ermelo, Holland.

Definitively, my holydays will be in Holland during four days, exclusively to see Gino in Amsterdam and Groningen.

An e-mail from Kathleen Marcaccio in the USA dated 29 June 2005.

Here's a news item about Gino's upcoming appearance in LaSalle, Quebec.

JUNE 28, 2005 - 11:06 ET

City of Montreal/Friday, July 1: Gino Vannelli Sings in Des Rapides Park

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - June 28, 2005) - On July 1, come celebrate Canada Day at Des Rapides Park in LaSalle, along with Gino Vannelli, Montreal's singer of world renown. In the first half, soul singer Rachelle will give you the chance to discover her mesmerizing voice. Undoubtedly the largest Canada Day show on the island of Montreal!

The Italian community invites you to supper!

To get the celebration off to a wonderful start, the Italian community invites you to come and share a good family meal at a nominal charge. An excellent opportunity to socialize and make new friends!

Rachelle at 7:30 p.m.

Writer, composer and performer, Rachelle is making a name for herself as Quebec's soul voice of tomorrow. A female Corneille or an Eryka Badu likeness, she astonishes her audiences with her seductive and drawling soul tones and her outstanding voice.

Gino Vannelli at 9:15 p.m.

Gino Vannelli has such top hits as I Just Wanna Stop, Black Cars, Fly Into This Night and Crazy Life. His "Canto" concert-which means "song" in Italian-and is named after his new album, highlights an opulent, symphonic, modern musical world and brings together styles as varied as pop, classical, Celtic and flamenco music. This combination-in a class by itself-is sung not only in French, but also in English, Italian and Spanish. You're in for quite a surprise!

The show will briefly pause at 10 p.m. to let the fireworks display light up the skies before continuing on, with even more vim, vigour and vitality, until 11 p.m. Gino Vannelli's visit to LaSalle has been made possible thanks to Labatt Blue, in partnership with Le Messager LaSalle and Club Richelieu LaSalle. In case of rain, the activities will be held at Arena Jacques-Lemaire.
