good, super kicking show and with a very, very enthusiastic French audience who was very appreciative for Gino Vannelli and the French band and their performance on stage... Gino's voice in super shape!

The editors are working on this page and try to give you the pictures, we have many!!! We also received a review with pictures from a complete unknown French Gino Vannelli fan with the name: Alberto Dominelli...

It was a big honour for us to meet the biggest Gino Vannelli fans in France for the very first time, they travelled from all over France.

Be patient please! We are writing a review and editing the pictures... B&T dated 17 September 2001.

Reviews & Comments:

(1): The editors start with the very first e-mail dated Sunday 14 September 2008 from Alberto Dominelli in France with the subject: Gino concert in Ville-la-Grand

Hi there,
Just write to you as I was at the Gino’s concert in Ville-la-Grand (France) yesterday night. As usual a wonderful moment. Gino at his top. The voice was perfect as ever. The French band was a high quality one, Gino seemed to be very impressed and happy to play with them. Sound was perfect too. Songs, all with special arrangements for the oldest ones, were if I remember well:

? (new)
Black cars
Wild horses
Brother to brother
Hurts to be in love
The Dutch beat (new)
Don’t give up (new)
You gotta move (Gino playing keyboard with Niels Lan Doky)
? (new)

Got the chance also to speak with Gino and have a photo with him (put in attachment some photos of the concert). Can’t forget this. Thanks so much Gino in proving us that good music still exists.
Ciao, Alberto Dominelli

(4): An e-mail review from Jacques in Paris, France dated Tuesday 23 September 2008 with the subject: The report of Jacques

Hello les amis this is the report of Jacques in Ville-la-Grand,

Just a few a words to tell you that i m still in state of shock. I know you are probably thinking it s just one more concert and this French guy is exaggerating. No, no, no..

First of all Saturday morning i was going to the "PARIS GARE DE LYON" it s one of the 4 railway station in Paris for taking the Paris-Geneva of 11h10 am. Just 5 minutes before arriving in this station, my friend Guillaume phone me completely excited. You are not going to believe me, what???...come on he tells me. And yes our seats were in the first class of the TGV (Fast speed train) wagon 2 and Gino with his manager and the 4 musicians were in the wagon 1. Could you believe it??? In the same train.

We were you could imagine a little bit nervous, after may be 30 minutes all the musicians were going to the bar for a lunch. At the return i said hello to the guitarist Jean Marie Ecay, a very nice guy we spoke a lot. They have rehearsed 3 days without Gino and 2 days with him in Paris, in 5 days all was ready. We joke a little bit about the precision and the perfectionism of Gino and after that Jean Marie goes to his seat. The pressure was increasing, and yes 10 minutes later Gino alone all dressed in black move probably to the bar. At the return Guillaume was too nervous so i decided to say hello to Gino, he shakes our hands and we spoke 5 minutes with him he seems very happy to see some fans coming specially to see him. We offer him some very good biscuits coming from the Mount Saint Michel and finally after chating a lot we ended saying see you later after the show and he answer us yes. I have to mention that Gino seems very concentrated may be his mind was already in the concert.

A little bit later we spoke with Niels lan doky a great pianist and a gentle man he remembers a session he plays 20 years ago with my friend Guillaume. Incredible, no???

After that we have a change of train? Gino and all the staff was going to GENEVA were a limousine was waiting their. We arrived at 3h12 pm in the city of Annemasse in the suburb of Geneva. We moved to the hotel and after that we move with the intention of buying an amount of chocolate for the family, kids and friends. After the shopping part of the travel and a coffee we decided to go to the football stadium where a big top was build for this free concert.

We were the first in front the gates some very young (and pretty) girls come a few minutes later, could you imagine girls of 18-20 years old knowing all the songs of Gino ?? Curious no?? We spoke a lot, these girls are members of a gypsy family all fans of Gino, later brothers mothers fathers grandfathers 20 persons of the same family where here specially to hear for the very first time Gino. I ask do you prefer Gino’s or Django Reinhardt’s music lol lol… all the gypsies laughing.

Well i continue some fans are arriving from Marseille, Nîmes, Paris, Grenoble etc... all the true fans where present. The soundcheck was incredible he plays some classics but re-arranged in an incredible way. i dont tell you a lot about the songs because it s better to hear the music and not to speak a lot.

At 7h00 pm the gates are opened and in the hall we spoke a lot with some fans and later what a surprise i met ...Barend and Trees they were here after a trip of 10 hours on the road. What a surprise, we spoke over and over you could imagine...

The first part of the show was a jazz rock group from Paris a very young and talented 28 years old musician. we bought a cd to her manager and we spoke again and again of this young band.

The second goup invited was a French/Brazilian girl named PATRICIA RANGEL a really talented singer and a very good band playing a mix of jazz-rock with a little brazilian flavor.

At around 10h00 pm the musicians came on stage, the pianist Niels lan Doky, the guitarist Jean marie Ecay, the drummer stephane Huchard and the bassist Linley Marthe. All the musicians from Paris. The result was amazing you couldn t imagine it he re-arranged all the old stuff and sings may be 4 new songs from the upcoming cd. I ve heard for the first time 2 brand new songs one titled "the dutchbeat" and the very first song of the show something like "from this day on" yes these songs are incredible.

Just a little larsen problem in the middle of "Blacks cars" and after that all was perfect. Gino was very happy dancing and moving a lot on stage like in the good old days of the eighties. At this point for understanding me you have to buy the 2 dvd’s from the 1979 and 1990 tour available on Ginov.com if you don t have its in your collection.

I think he was very happy seeing all the audience crying and asking for the old songs. The show was a 75 minutes long but with a lot of musical surprises.

At the end of the show the french manager of Gino move his arms and we run (the 10 true fans) to a back side of the top. Gino was smiling and we spoke again with him, he signed some autographs but in a very cool way without people crying and jumping like in the last december show in Paris. Barend with a big camera was taking pictures of Gino with all the fans me, Guillaume, claude, nadine, yves, Michel etc...

After that we were invited in the vip back room thanks to Barend and Trees. Could you imagine it a very big room with sand on the ground, trees in pot, black leather sofas, open bar with Champagne, beer and all kinds of alcohol, a "buffet" with an amount of food. Gino was eating with his musicians and we where with the fans speaking and speaking untill 3h00 am. At the end of the lunch a big anniversary cake was presented on the table for the anniversary of Marc Berthoumieux the famous French accordionist.

I ve never seen a so great after show in all my life lol lol lol lol
At may be 2h00 am Gino asks for a driver and he moved alone to his hotel. I spoke one more time with the guitarist and Niels and they tell us a very good news. Gino is thinking in doing a concert next march in Paris with the same band nothing confirmed yet but yeah!!! everybody was crying.

Finally we ended up the night with Barend and Trees, what a great “souvenir” for sure it will be engraved in my mind for years.

My best wishes to all the world of Gino’s friend
It s a long email no???
Jacques

(5): Dear Barend & Trees
Now I will write in French.
There are no words to describe the concert…. FANTASTIC!
Just very impressive to see Gino in concert!
It is not the same thing as when I saw him at the master class!
I had the opportunity to sing “Wild horses” and “Rose in December” and to really see wild horses...

But really, I was very happy to be able to see him in concert and, to meet you, this was also a great pleasure. I also had the opportunity to speak with Niels Lan Doky, to be able to talk to such a great pianist!!!! What else is there left to dream of? I spoke a little with Gino not very long but that was already very good. Here you have it, my commentary for this spectacular concert.
Aurore
big kiss to you

(8): A second e-mail from Jacques dated 23 September 2008 with the subject: The best Gino's work.

Hello dear friends,
I ve posted this morning something for you.

I ve to confess that for me the new songs that Gino had sung are great and i m sure that this next cd will be the best Gino's work. I say the same thing for each new album i know...

I m sure that the concert in Devenport was great and again with the drumming of Stéphane Huchard.
Have a nice day
Jacques.

(9): An e-mail from Guillaume dated 24 September 2008 with the subject: I put Gino at the top of the list with great artists.

Hello dear friends,
it was very very nice to meet you and I didn't know who you were at first place but then, after our first conversation, Jacques told me

I appreciate your fantastic work since I have Internet in 2001 as a amateur musician, I put Gino at the top of the list with great artists of our time dead or alive like Frank Zappa, Miles Davis, Donald Fagen, Stevie Wonder, Todd Rundgren, Herbie Hancock, Prince etc...

we know that he is a genius but mostly a hard worker (no miracle 1% of inspiration 99%work) the concert in Ville la Grand was great and it's always a gift to hear and see such an artist

I have noticed his tribute to Led Zeppelin's riff from "Whole lotta love" in his first song ! the next album will be excellent based on what we have heard

as long as Gino do what he likes and that his audience follows him, it's the best I can wish for him by the way, I would be much obliged if you could send me the picture you took from Jacques and me with the master of music when you have the time

all the best to both of you,
Guillaume.

(10): An e-mail from Claude Champagne in Versailles, France dated Sunday 5 October 2008 with the subject: Gino in Ville-La-Grand: The French unit rules!!!

Hello Barend, hello Trees,
Nadine and I were in Ville-La-Grand to see Gino's first (and hopefully not last) concert with the French unit. It was a great occasion for Nadine and myself to hook up with Yves, Jacques, Guillaume, Enora and Florian and of course, yourself. We talked, and talked and talked until two in the morning! Now this is a gettogether!

What about the concert you may ask. One word: EXCELLENT! Even more so, after knowing that the musicians were together for three days before Gino joined them a couple of days before the concert. The band really tight and all (including Gino) seemed happy of the result. Guitarist Jean-Marie Ecay was really impressive, and Stéphane Huchard is, in my opinion the best drummer I've seen live with Gino. As for Gino, this was one of the best performances I've seen him do.

The night's playlist:
From this day on (my favorite among the new songs they did that night)
Wild Horses (has now become a great power pop ballad)
Black Cars
Dutch beat
A good thing (pretty nice blues)
Brother to Brother
I just wanna stop (with a new arrangement at last!!!)
Hurts to be in love
People gotta move
Encore: Don't give up on me (the song gets better and better. It's got hit potential I tell you!)

We were able to see Gino after the concert for pictures, autographs and talk a little.
All in all, a very enjoying evening. We can't wait for another concert!
Take care!
Nadine + Claude

PRE-FUN:

An e-mail from Jacques in Paris, France dated 2 September 2008 with the subject: future concert of Gino in Ville la grand.

Hello les amis,
How are you? fine in Holland.

First of all me and my friend Guillaume we have reserved the train and hotel for the future concert of Gino in Ville la grand. To have the opportunity to see Gino 2 times in 9 months is a great chance for any french fan.

I m impatient to hear the new musical direction of our favorite artist, with a so talented group the music will be terrific for sure.

i ve read that the new body of work of Gino is postponed to may be january 2009 ..lol lol i m not surprised Gino is so perfectionnist and he works so hard.

Nick Moon His sound engineer was probably very busy with Gino's recordings. Do you know if Ross will come to Ville la grand for doing the sound?? He is a so kind person and gentleman and it was a pleasure for me to speak some minutes at the end of the show last december in Paris.

It seems that he is not so famous as his brother and so it was very easy to speak with him without all those girls jumping and crying around the star. lol lol lol
Have a nice day les amis
A bientôt
Jacques
The end...

To the top again...
