THE REACTIONS & COMMENTS:
Nederlands/Dutch:
Weer janken dus......
English/Engels:
Hello Barend and Trees, Yesterday He came up with this song about an American Boy who was killed in action in Afghanistan. A nice one! My Son is on the list to go there. So again time for real tears...... I thought He saw me cry because after He finished this song He said something looking into my direction, like: ..."what a song can do...."
But that's absolutely no problem, emotions are a part of this musical event. And there is nobody on this planet except for GINO VANNELLI who can set free my deep emotions. It was great also the band.
I am already searching for pictures on the internet but there is nothing yet, when you have a link can you please e-mail me that link? 2): An e-mail from Theo who lives in Helmond dated Monday 21 April 2008 with the subject: Gino Vannelli's concert...
Hello Barend & Trees, 3): A "few" words from the editors B&T dated Monday 21April 2008 and guess who is the subject: GINO VANNELLI!!! Uropa featuring Gino Vannelli... We were given a fine concert, AGAIN!!! In spite of the fact that this was the same day that there was a very important Dutch soccer game in the Helmond neighbourhood and this game could end with the champion of the 2007-2008 soccer competion and this team is from Eindhoven which is the big city close to Helmond. The Bavaria house was packed for GINO VANNELLI! Great concert hall with a nice stage and only standing places... The whole atmosphere was nice, nice people, nice dressingrooms, good food and great drinks... Everything felt good, very good... The soundcheck was already fantastic and the sound amazing... The sound of Joost Kroon drums went through the body and got you in the right mood for music. Great band with all those different musical instruments. They were ready to play Gino Vannelli's music.
WALTER WHITMAN WHERE ARE YOU... Wow!!! The horns, Gino's voice... What a way to spend a Sunday afternoon, we can honestly say that we were at many Gino Vannelli concerts and also very different kind of concerts even a living-room concert with an audience of two!!! We are so blessed and during all those Gino Vannelli concerts not 1 second is boring not one second of the music is too much or not 1 second of the songs bother us or annoy us, we can still listen 10 million hours to Gino Vannelli's music & voice and especially live... We still hate it when people talk, phone or make remarks during a concert so disrespectful, even going to the toilet is not going to happen during a Gino Vannelli concert!!! Hahahaha... WOMAN ON TOP is so crazy good but we tried to explain that before... Uropa is growing and growing into Gino Vannelli top quality. The musicians give it all and we bow and applause for them all. The audience reacts enthusiastic and honest which feels also good. There is great appreciation in the air for Gino Vannelli and the musicians. The concert was over again before we could understand it and everybody was shouting Gino... GINO... Ginooooo... GINOOOOOOOO!!!!! The encore was "Don't Give up..." an incredible musical work of art with the divine voice of the Master of Music: GINO VANNELLI!!! We thank Helmond for the warm welcome and the great kind way they supported Gino Vannelli's life's work. Also BIG thanks to Leo Lintermans and Marianne Uytdehage and all the people from the Bavaria House. Last but not least The Musicians: Erwin Hoorweg, Joost Kroon, Rolf Delfos, Ilja Reijngoud, Angelo Verploegen Michel van de Schie. The great Kim Hoorweg, the sound people and engineer John Kriek...

Dear Barend and Trees,
I have the impression that a lot of people only realized after the concert how unique this event was. Again genuine thanks for the Pictures and I hope till the next adventure.
We were so glad we can go to Helmond. It was a sunny Sunday. When we arrived we noticed a mixed audience. Some were there just for fun and there were the real fans. So are we! We sneaked trough the audiance and stand in the second row..Except of a few (bold) back heads we had a great view. The band began to play, all great Dutch mucisians. For Gino only the best of course! After the first play, the band pronounced that they would play 3 parts before Gino would appear on stage..... The audience was a little disappointed but the band play on and they were great. But our hearts were beating for Gino of course..... Finally Gino was there. He looked great as always and he had his BIG HAIR again. I think that a lot of women appreciate the BIG HAIR! He started with Wild Horses, some women got wild indeed of the song!
It is always great to see fans who are so ecxited when they see Gino for the first time or maybe after years. My first time was last year and I was also very ecxited and when I got at the end a BIG HUG I was totally flabbergasted and not on earth but in The Gino Music Heaven for a week!!! I am still exited after 8 concerts in one year!!! But it is different. Maybe I can enjoy the concert even more nowadays because I am now a dyed in the wool fan. If you are to ecxcited there are a lot of things you forget because of all the ecxitement at least, that is my experience....
Gino was going on with Walther Whitman, ooooh, thats one of my favorites it sounded beautiful with the horn section! Furthermore there was People Gotta Move and we were glad we can move because there were, thank god, no chairs! Of Course Brother To Brother could not be missing. The temperature was rising! And then there was; None So Beautiful As the Brave, Gino sang this wonderful song with Kim Hoorweg a nature talent, only 15 years old! She has a very young pure voice with a jazzy sound. Although it was very hot, I got goosebumps! Beautiful !
Gino played also Woman On Top there were some ladies yelling because of the seasoned lyrics......It is a great song! But unfortunately, it was the last song.... The audience was clapping for more...Gino and the band came back, YES! The encore was Don’t Give Up On Me. Of all the new songs I know, it is my favorite... Wonderful! This was really the last song.... Too bad!
I was also sent on a mission... I have great contact with some American hardcore fans, who became friends. They asked me if I would give Gino a rose and a letter. So I promissed them to do it, at least, if I would get the chance. And that was really not sure..... I didn’t see you Barend and Trees.....I had sent you an email but you two are so busy you didn’t read it. After the concert I saw John and asked him if we could see Gino. He said he would come downstairs later on. So we waited and met some old and new fans. We meet two very nice sisters they would love to shake Gino’s hand and a picture would be great too! So they stayed with us and Carlos promised to take a picture. I was a little afraid that Gino would not come. It never happened before but you never know... but finally John said we could come over. I was sooo happy for the American fans/friends they count on it.... If it was not possible they would be very disappointed.... And I was ver happy for me myself of course!!! The ecxited ladies were overwhelming Gino! We waited until our turn. I was very glad that Gino recognised me, so I got a hug! I tried to tell Gino really quick about the stuff in my back. I said I am the Dutch ambassador ( The friends named me like this) He laughed about it. I don’t know if he understood all I say but I did it! We made also some pictures . It was all totally perfect! And then Gino said goodbye, the car was waiting....
It was a GREAT Sunday !!!!! Afterwards we had diner in a restaurant in Helmond and enjoyed the food and the after fun!
I say it everytime again; GINO AND HIS MUSIC ARE A MIRACLE DRUG!!! I am longing for the next concert.....Too bad, Austerlitz was sold out, by the time we knew it.
I hope there is more to come......
Thanks, Gino, Uropa and Barend and Trees for the Great Sunday!
I only know a few words in English but here we go...... Awesome, Fabulous, great voice! Great music and very good band! I loved it and GINO VANNELLI is the MAN!!! Only me knows how much I loved this concert. And a worldstar with this meet and greet, I cannot forget it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sandra P.
Hallo Barend en Trees,
English/Engels:
Hello Barend and Trees,
Beste barend en trees,
English/Engels:
Dear Barend and Trees,
The editors made this article overhere and tried to translate it into the English language.
English/Engels:
Hi Barend and Trees,
By the way, I did not see you two either, or maybe I only had my eyes on one thing, that beautiful man on stage? I cannot wait till the next concert. Probably the next concert will come again soon... heh......
Maybe till the next opportunity. I will come to you and shake hands and thank you for the wonderful work you two do.
Hallo Barend & Trees.
Thanks to Gino !!!
Gino, Het was weer TOP !!!! Bedankt voor het geweldige optreden met Urope !!!!!!!
Liefs van Rob & Wil.
English/Engels:
Hello Barend & Trees.
But we cannot complain too long because Gino is back !!!!!!!!! Only for a while.... And than we are counting the weeks and the days till the day is there... that we are on our way to Helmond to the Bavaria house where Gino gives a concert with Uropa. We are in a sad mood because of private circumstances but we try to make the best of it anyways... and we search comfort in Gino's music (And there is comfort in Gino's music for sure!). This time we do not feel like pushing ourselves through the people to the front row but we found a nice quiet place at the side from where we can see and hear everything very well.
The band Uropa starts with a swinging opening and plays after the opening a few other musical pieces. Than they announce Gino and tell us that he still looks so great... Wow...They are so right, all the biking in the landscapes of Holland does good for Gino as we all can see. ha, ha.
Very fast the well-known tunes of Wild Horses and Walter Whitman (Mmmmmmm stays always such a good song) and we are lucky again because they also play a few new songs like Woman On Top and Don't Give Up.
And than this beautiful song None So Beautiful As The Brave, this time in a very special way, a duet together with Kim Hoorweg... Very well done !!!
Yes, again a fantastic performance and Gino looked very happy and pleased and we could feel and hear that !!!!
After the concert we saw the regular true fans waiting downstairs and we noticed that Gino took the time again for a meet & greet. Some invited people were allowed inside and yeah John was so kind to invite us too.
Hey... And there we saw Trees, she was very busy making pictures ( What a top paparazzi). Nice to see you again !!!
And it felt so good to meet Gino again there in the room, after he shaked many hands and signed autographs, I still decided to go to Gino...And what a reception...A super big hug and sweet words, yesss that's what I needed at that moment!!!! Thanks to Gino !!!
Gino it was top again !!!! Thanks for the great performance with Uropa !!!!!!!!
Love, Rob & Wil.
English/Engels:
Hi Barend and Trees.
Jan was in Austerlitz too yesterday, (Unfortunately, Helga could not come) this was a total different concert but also beautiful. We noticed how open and down to earth Gino is and He also has a warm and upright personallity. Bert played incredibly good on his grand-piano.
Unfortunately Jan could not stay any longer after the concert he wanted to get to know you two better and also shake hands with Gino again. Hey you cannot get it all! isn't it?
Jan did ask Gino last Sunday about why he never sang "Ugly Man" live on stage. He said that he still has to sing so many songs!! Maybe you two can also ask that question to Gino because "Ugly Man" is a real nice song to do live on stage and from Jan's point of view, it certainly fits in yesterday's show in a piano/singing jazz version. That could be so beatiful!
Barend and Trees, thanks for everything you two do for Gino and his fans.
Greetings, Jan and Helga
English/Engels:
Haai means shark but in the Dutch a pronunciation it also says hi.
I only want to tell you that it was very enjoyable with that Gino Vannelli Guy and the Houdini's. I am very happr that I was there at that moment. And I had to inform you anyways that the music was good and Gino Vannelli's voice was really fantastic. That's all !!!!
We try in English: First we could not believe it Gino Vannelli in Helmond!!!!!!!!!! Wauw!!!
We went open-minded but we are blown away by his voice and his looks, we got a big kick out of this concert. We both loved it and we did meet Gino!!!!! Really!!!! Joke will never wash her hands again and the song HURTS TO BE IN LOVE plays all the time in our home. Thanks Gino, we love you and we will never forget that you came all the way to Helmond. Joke and Piet thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Beste Barend en Trees,

This was the first impulse to many more concerts with good music.
The editors (B&T) think this is the best letter ever written to a newspaper about or after a GINO VANNELLI'S concert!
We are going to try to translate it in the English language but this is really very difficult because the person who wrote this must be a writer or somebody who knows to use the right but difficult words. We do the best we can...
Oh by the way, guess who announced the championship of PSV during His concert??? Yeahhhh GINO VANNELLI Very funny, the audience went wild and went on supporting Gino Vannelli!
You all need to know that PSV is the champion of all soccer teams in Holland this season and they come from Eindhoven which is very close to Helmond. And at the same time Gino Vannelli's concert was going on this important soccer game was going on and this game could get PSV on number 1 spot of the competition, so that's why the title of this letter:
First thing I have to do is to declare that the critics and faultfinders are right, I am NO soccer fan, I do not know nothing about soccer and it gets worse and worse: Me and my friends never ever watch the soccer games of the national Dutch soccer team. And something I absolutely never do is read about soccer. On a Monday morning I finish the newspaper more faster than on the other days. All games and teams till about the 9th café/bar team are discussed and described and especially the soccer games of the national premier league competition and the first league competition get so much attention, much too much, like there is nothing else in this world. Pages and pages of all possible ways and results 1-0, 1-1, 1-2, 2-2 etc... are described. Paragraphs and more paragraphs of repeats and analyses about 22 trotting young men who run behind a ball for 1 hour and a half on a field with grass, telling us what they do. People: "It's only a game!" Nothing on this planet gets an article longer than 150 words, except soccer games.
Back to the newspaper of Monday morning. For a few seconds I laugh about the frontpage. The editorship in their own euphoria could not stop themselves, they probably already searched for months for the right headline to honour their 'champion'.
Gino Vannelli gave with His band Uropa a legendary concert. Paradiso was cancelled alternative? Bavaria House in Helmond,
Gino Vannelli will be pushed by this newspaper article into someone who is reduced to the musical side ranks. DO-NOTHING!
Art and culture are in the ED newspaper (Eindhovens Dagblad) already directed to a review so small that easely fits on the backside of a beer drip-mat, but Mondaymorning they went overboard. Seven pages all about PSV. The newspaper is there to bring news. Seven pages with anecdotes about many nothings which already were shown and broadcasted in every detail on tv for several times.
Every newspaper should search for pearls in the news. And then there is the diamond, something very rare, and you let it go. There are people who love to read something different.

Gino Vannelli is ontzettend begeesterd."
Gino Vannelli: controlfreak of the very first order
Gino Vannelli 'listens like a conductor'.
HELMOND - Gino Vannelli and His band can rehearse for hours and hours. He sees and hears everything and only when the musical details are completely right the Canadian singer/composer goes live on stage.
"He is a controlfreak of the very first order", says Rolf Delfos saxophone player of the Dutch group Uropa. The band which plays with Vannelli during the concert in the Bavaria House in Helmond.
Very often Vannelli does not open His mouth during these marathon sessions. "He listens like a conductor", says Delfos. "Only at the end of the rehearsals He starts singing. And when one note of a song is out of time, it has to go in a different way. Even just before a performance.
When Vannelli does a soundcheck before a concert and wants to test the sound in the concert-hall, he pulls out all the stops and makes every effort to go for perfection. "Such a soundcheck with Him takes 3 hours, in which we play the whole repertoire. He even interferes with my mic. I never ever saw this with other singers", speaks Delfos, teacher at the conversatory and co-founder of the Houdini's jazz group.
The band who accompanies Vannelli counts other than Delfos and three other members of the houdini's also a drummer and a bass guitar player. This Sunday they will not escape from playing the biggest hits of the Canadian singer, like 'Wild Horses', 'Hurts To Be In Love' and 'People Gotta Move'. Last-named is very well-known by the ANWB commercials, sometimes He says "this is the song I most hate of all..."
Because of those successful hits in the 70's and 80's the 55 years old musician from Montréal will always be associated with smooth pop, romantic lyrics, macho behaviour and wide open shirts with a wealth of breast hair but He prefers to be a music pioneer, pathfinder in music and innovator.
Rightly, because in the 70's He did not follow the patterns or the prevailing trends at that time like glam-punk, heavy metal or disco. While most of the musicians sanctified the guitar, Vannelli specialized in Jazzy pop songs with inventive use of synthesizers.
After a series of very successful albums in the time period of 1974-1978, the singer/composer's career went into a depression also because of a legal fight with His record company. A short highlight (with 'Wild Horses') and after that Vannelli retracted and came back in the 90's with 2 acoustic kind of jazz albums and even a classical album.
At the moment He works with Dutch musicians on a Jazz orientated album. According to Rolf Delfos the saxophone player, Vannelli has an extreme passion for music. "He follows His heart and His instincts. Gino Vannelli is extreme and endlessly enthusiastic devoted to music."
GINO VANNELLI and Uropa, Sunday in the Bavaria House in Helmond, 4pm.
Reactions on the newspaper articles:
Here is a reaction from Texas, USA after reading the newspaperarticle:
An E-mail from Kara in Texas, USA dated 30 April 2008: I was reading the articles about the concerts there and I was shocked at
how the musician in Uropa was calling Gino a "control freak" and acting
like he hated playing with Gino! Am I reading that wrong? How could
Gino play with people who speak so badly about him after the fact? It
is NOT news that Gino is a perfectionist, and I would think good
musicians would appreciate that, especially if they play with him
regularly. Can you clarify the article for me so I don't mistinterpret
the meaning? It sounds like the Uropa musician HATES playing with
Gino--I hope that's not the case.
He must have put on one helluva show both nights! The reactions are crazy - and the media! Especially reading the ones from people who have never been on the site before, or have heard his VOICE!!! It's FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you imagine just happening on "GINO" for the first time??????????? Reading the comments is as much fun as lingering after a show and watching fans gush all over him. I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I listened to Kim sing on "youtube", she's an unbelievable talent for such a young age. And of course Bert......... Luv Ya,
Terry
I was just confused. In America, "control freak" has very negative
connotations and, if the person meant it to be negative, I was very
surprised. I think either the words used or the translation made it
sound negative. That's why I was questioning you to be sure I was
understanding it correctly. "Perfectionist" is more positive; "control
freak" is negative...we use that word alot in the law firm.
I LOVE all the pictures you throw in on your websites--so much fun to
look at and to read all the latest Gino stuff. I guess you know how
fortunate you are to be able to spend such intimate time with
Gino....from your descriptions of how he is living in Holland it sounds
like he's just an average guy like you and me and not pretentious at
all. That's so nice to hear.
Thanks for your reply. I hope you didn't take my comments the wrong
way. Kara.
