GINO VANNELLI DUO-concert at the Umeå Jazzfestival in Sweden Saterday
27 October 2007:

A Gino Vannelli concert review by Veronica Dieke, Sweden dated 14 November 2007:

Hi Barend and Trees !
In January 2004 my dream to see Gino live came true.
I visited a friend in Holland and together we went to Pepsi Stage.

To Umeå my husband Joakim, our sons William (photographer), Kevin and seven friends from Skellefteå came along.

The concert was FANTASTIC,
Gino and Michiel .....WOW!!!

I’m not that good at expressing my feelings with english words.
On the other hand I’m not sure there are words enough to describe how much Ginos music means to me.

I feel like flyin' (Brother to brother) and I’m getttin' high (Storm at sunup) when I hear his voice Greetings from Veronica Dieke, Sweden.

An e-mail from Sigurd Huckle in Sweden dated 28 October 2007 with the subject: Gino Vannelli's Swedish success

Dear Barend & Trees,
I went to Gino's show in Umeå yesterday. Great!
You can read my review in the Radio Dupree blog from Sweden
Kind regards, Sigurd Huckle

PS Some of Gino's show may be broadcast since Sveriges Radio had their recording trucks outside.

Gino Vannelli's Swedish success

Is that Gino?

Gino Vannelli's concert in Umeå, Sweden on October 27 turned out to be a huge success.
The great showman Gino invited no less than four local guest musicians on stage.
Gino's only companion on stage pianist Michiel Borstlap immediately set the musical standards in the opening of the first song, Black Cars. When Gino started singing the first lines it was goosebumps time. What a voice! (and it did not fail during the entire show).

"We need a percussionist!"

It was one of those concerts with great communication between the stage and the audience. It may have helped that this concert was arranged by the Umeå Jazz Festival. The drunk howlers that you may find in clubs don't go to the festival. So the quiet parts were very enjoyable too.

There was a lot of audience participation. Gino first requested a drummer and a percussionist from the audience, and later on two guest vocalists: "Anyone out there with a big ego?"

Reciting poetry
Gino also wanted some background vocals for one song where everyone could join in. The show included new and old songs (Wild Horses and Brother To Brother to name a few), plus two examples from an upcoming book of poems (!)

This concert showed how two musicians can keep an audience thrilled for one and a half hour. The key to that is great musicianship and showmanship. Here are some more great news for the Gino Vannelli fans: The concert will probably be broadcast on radio later since Sveriges Radio had their recording trucks outside the concert venue. Gino was also interviewed by the SR channel P2.
A word from the editors (B&T): We could not find the Gino Vannelli concert review anymore in this blog of Radio Dupree so we post it here... Thank God, we saved it on our harddisk in the Sweden file.

Thank you !!! for the nice work You did with our pictures,
THANKS deep from my heart.

I study in Umeå, so I travel there by bus every week.
My heart jumps each time I pass IDUN, it’s still so unreal that I really meet HIM.
It’s feels great to have a “family” who understands, I mean REALLY understands how I feel.

I hope your Tuesday evening was beautiful…. I know it was ………
Wish You have a great evening at Concertgebouw tomorrow……. if You have to go : )
Greetings from Veronica Dieke, Sweden

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Sweden was really good, even better than Utrecht!!!
A honest reaction straight from the heart of one of the Musicians...
