THE CONCERT:

COMMENTS:

First the editors (B&T) have to say: "GINO VANNELLI fans, music-lovers
and all people of this planet, you have to become a member of the Friends of the Metropole Orchestra foundation, it's a must! You only have to donate at least 23 Euro a year that's the minimum and you can give more

of course but we mean to say that people with not that much money can become a member too and can get super great tickets for a concert around the end of the year. Imagine that there were people in the studio last Friday the 14th of December 2007 who only paid 23 Euro and had tickets for this GINO VANNELLI concert!!! And that's a great reward for being friends of the Metropole Orchestra for years. It's possible for everybody!!!

Especially the Dutch GINO VANNELLI fans must become a member of the Friends of the Metropole foundation! And we think it's possible too for people from other countries, why not??? But you have to check this out at the web site of the Friends of the Metropole Orchestra. There is an English part on the web site but it is still under construction.

We, the editors, can only write what a concert,
what a musicians AND WHAT A SINGER!!! For a completely new audience including a few hard-core GINO VANNELLI fans, GINO VANNELLI sang 3 new songs with the Metropole Orchestra and we were so close to the music and the orchestra, the music hit us directly in the bones and gave a super kick into our brains........ GINO VANNELLI's music and voice is so very addictive.

During the rehearsals were bad vibes but during the concert Gino broke the ice and everyone gave it for a thousand percent... And good feelings grew and grew into a spectacular musical eruption, Gino Vannelli's voice was in top shape. Gino Vannelli together with the Metropole Orchestra brings out THE VERY BEST in Gino and normally the best is always there during Gino's concerts but with this group of people it's even better and more special. The show is beyond everything and 65 people who play Gino Vannelli's music is outstanding and unbelievable. The glow on people's faces is so good to see and the man behind the cello makes a big impression also to Gino.

In between the songs Gino walks to some of the Musicians and gives them a pat on the shoulders or just a simple handshake with that special smile. Very touching to see that!

Anyways... The first part of the concert was the Metropole Orchestra only with beautiful music from Ave Maria to Peter and The Wolf with Margriet Vroomans as the narrator.

She was also the host/presenter of the show, such a beautiful voice.

The second part after the break: GINO VANNELLI... Yeahhhh The Man and His Music, His music played by so many good musicians. Many musicians left the Metropole Orchestra and we saw many new enthusiastic faces.

Quite an appearance by GINO VANNELLI from the dark backstage with His clear white shirt and great outfit, we could hear people whisper: "He has no wrinkles" and "He is so down to earth that He keeps His glasses on..." We both looked at eachother and just laughed. The things people say is so amazing... "Wild Horses" started in the great big band version with the train sounds, very impressive and we were in the middle of the music and the "Arizona Plains" - " Wild Horses could not drag me away from you......"

Super kicking opening and we were right in the magical Gino Vannelli music-heaven!!! What a joy, life can be so beautiful. Gino and the Metropole did 8 songs after the break but again it was over before we know it. And 2 long standing ovations for Gino and the Orchestra which was well deserved.

Ohhh, one thing was so impressive again! There were two encores and after the first encore the piano-player Jasper Soffers, made room for another piano-player: GINO VANNELLI. Gino sat down behind the big black grand-piano and started playing an intro to :
"None So Beautiful" in a second they changed places again and Jasper played the grand-piano again while Gino sang in a goose-bumps impressive way the lyrics of "None So beautiful" WHAT A VOICE!!! The dedication and the devotion and the passion is somehow scary!!! Gino and all the musicians of the orchestra had glorious faces and received the standing ovations in a very happy way.

What a night, what do we want more in life?

"Woman on Top" and "A Good Thing" Soooooo very good and so special with this big orchestra, the different musical levels in "Woman on Top" came out so fantastic and the bluesy sound of "A Good Thing" is a big WOW!!! And we all know how Gino sings THING, the THHH in such a deep bluesy Gino Vannelli way... We love it how He sings "of higher education... WOW!!!
"I know a good thing when I see it..."
"She got eyes like sapphire diamonds..." Deep musical satisfaction and such a joy to listen to.

The violins of the Metropole Orchestra fit in Gino Vannelli's music so wonderful and during "WALTER WHITMAN WHERE ARE YOU" we listened with open mouths... and strong pumping hearts. WHAT A THRILL... WHAT A SUPERB SONG!!! BEAUTIFUL violins...

Gino made big compliments about the Concertmaster and the 1st violin: Arlia de Ruiter. She made a huge impression!

"PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE" ROCKS!!!

"BROTHER TO BROTHER" recognized by most people of the audience, like always... And the powerful music of this masterpiece, which we heard in many ways and versions now, flows into this concert-hall mixed with Gino Vannelli's voice it's like dynamite which explodes into a musical bang... We are deeply grateful. We know our words are extravagant enthusiasm but we mean what we feel and there is no shame from our hearts. For us both GINO VANNELLI is THE MASTER OF MUSIC!!!

The meet and greet was fun and Gino saw some old friends who were connected to the Metropole Orchestra in the years 2000 and 2002 when Gino played with them in Roosendaal and at the North Sea Jazz. We made pictures of Gino with all kinds of people all people who donate some Euros to the orchestra many Euros from the big sponsors and a few Euros from the "normal" people but we are all connected to music, music we all need in this CRAZY LIFE!!!

A second e-mail from Rob and Wil Spelbos in Utrecht, the Netherlands dated 19 Maart 2008 with the subject: Gino & Metropole orkest

Hello Barend & Trees.
14 December…….. The last Gino Vannelli performance in 2007 in the Netherlands together with the Metropole Orchestra... And guess how happy we are... We have Friends of the Metropole tickets !!!

When we arrived in Hilversum we deeply realized that we are really, really very lucky because we had the chance to get tickets. And that's dead certain for sure! We do not see anybody from the regular "always there" Gino-fans...So we stood there very lonely between un-known faces but... suddenly we see a very well-known couple Gino Fans...YES, Barend and Trees !!!! However we saw you both many, many times this year it keeps on being fun to see you two again and to meet and talk again...After a cosy conversation about this and that (and especially about Gino of course!) it was time for me to go into the concert-hall... yes especially for me hahahaha... And yeahhhhhh first row next to Barend and Trees... The strongest people always win!
(Lucky again !!!!!)

The first part of the evening was filled with music played by the Metropole Orchestra, really very beautiful..... And the acoustics of this concert-hall was amazing !!! Especially the part of Peter and the Wolf was so wonderful also thanks to the voice of Margriet Vroomans who was the narrator. But the joy really started for us when Gino performed with the Metropole Orchestra.

We could see that Gino enjoyed this and soon we could hear and enjoy the well-known songs like Brother To Brother and Walter Whitman (so beautiful with an orchestra) but we also heard new songs and last but not least None so Beautiful. And at the beginning of this song Gino sat down Himself behind the piano... Fantastic, also the violins !!!!!! Yes this was again very thick goose-bumps !!!

Like always in our minds it could last for hours and hours but hey all beautiful things end fast like all good things races by.
After the concert Gino came again to the lobby... We get very used to these happenings but it keeps on being very special !!!

We also saw Mr. Jaap van Zweden running around and yessss Mrs. (Idol) Kaagman, (What a pity Barend that your battery got empty right at that moment she was there...)

For Gino it was the day before He left for the USA... We hope that everything will go well with the recordings for His new cd and the He could enjoy the Holidays at home.

Gino thanks for this great evening and also for all performances in this super top year of 2007 !!!
Lots of love from Rob & Wil.

THE PRE-FUN:

Dear Friends,
We received your registration for the Friends of the Metropole Orchestra concert of 14 December 2007 with the participation of Gino Vannelli. The interest for this concert is so very overwhelming, that in a few hours all the tickets were gone! We tried to find a bigger location (that's why this late reaction) to give more of our Friends an oppertunity to be at this concert, but unfortunately we did not have too much luck.

We received your registration just in time so we made reservations for you. You can collect these tickets from 7:00pm at 14 December at the entrance. The tickets are ready for you with your name on it. Please take your invitations with you when you report yourselves.

Because we have to disappoint so many people, we ask you with force when you cannot come to the concert to let us know as soon as possible, PLEASE, so we can make other people happy who are on the waitinglist for this concert.

We are looking forward to welcome you on the 14th of December and we wish you a happy concert in advance!

With kind regards,

Dear Barend and Trees,
How lovely to receive such a positive e-mail from you! ;-)). Really wonderful to know that there are still people who are able to react soooo very positive. I just wanted to forward your e-mail to another committee member to tell them that I also receive nice e-mails but by accident I e-mailed this to you.

Today I had to disappoint more than 200 people and now I receive the most ugly e-mails with bad reactions. So I thought to forward this kind of positive e-mail too instead of all the ugly ones ;-).

I tried to call you to explain the above, but I could not connect. Is it true that your phone number does not exist anymore? Do you have a new phone number?

I really hope to meet you personally on the 14th of December and thanks again for your happy message; It made my day (and it's a comfort for me because I will receive more ugly e-mails for sure from the disappointed)!
See you!
With kind regards,
